After
Coheed And Cambria play us in (although it was a very slightly
altered sequence, although timed the same) as we joined Byron &
Regal at the announce booth as they talked about this week's main
event, but it was time to get with some tag team action.
BO DALLAS & DERRICK BATEMAN
vs. JOHNNY CURTIS & MICHAEL McGILLICUTTY
So
Derrick was on the hook for the loss of his team. Was it just me, or
was Dallas very mildly teasing a heel turn by kinda chewing him out
for it? The match itself was a fine opener though. And it seemed
like this match has someone for everyone. Kinda...
@SolaceWinter
Watching NXT. It's great to see Bateman. Too bad he's teaming with
Dallas.
It
was so awesome that Derrick replied back that it was a great
suggestion. But anyway, after the break, we moved right along with
our next match, which was set up by a backstage confrontation last
week.
ANTONIO CESARO vs. ALEX
RILEY
Well,
first off, I know what Regal was meaning when Cesaro came out, but I
wouldn't stick with being "The Ultimate Catcher". Sounds a
lil' bit gay. Also, notice that A-Ri stopped by a lkid in a Cena
shirt? Kinda ironic, huh? Also, I should note JR's presence here
because this was final match of that taping that was shot, for a
nominal fourth episode (although that only had 2 matches filmed for
it, the other being the Rquel Diaz vs. Paige match that aired last
week), so this was a main event that JR sat in on. But with Riley's
air-time severely limited these days, and even with a loss here, does
the poor guy still have any fans?
I
want Antonio Cesaro's ring jacket. I also forgot Alex Riley existed
until he just came out to the ring. #WWE#NXT
From
there, we went from one former King Of Wrestling to the other, as
Kassius Ohno was backstage with Briley Pierce. Ohno said that there
were a lot of athletic guys with potential. But there was one thing
missing. The element of danger. And that's what he brought. If he
was diving out, you better move. If he had a hold on, make the
ropes. If he's swinging, duck or lose your head. He was the most
dangerous man in Sports Entertainment. He inflicted pain and he
enjoyed it.
After
the break, Matt Striker was also backstage in a different area. This
time with Drew McIntyre. Drew came in as the "Chosen One",
but some now say his time had passed and it's the likes of Seth
Rollins who are the future. Drew said that everyone had been
talking. Even he had been guilty of it and now everyone was talking
about Seth Rollins. Well, tonight, the talking would end. After 2
straight interviews, it was time for some Divas action on the
show!
SOFIA COTEZ vs. NATALYA
Decent
match there, but wow, what a really crappy finish. They wanted
Natalya to lose, but didn't want her pinned. They didn't want Sofia
to lose either, but they didn't want to put her over Natalya, so what
we get is that while Natalya is in control, when she gets kicked out
the ring, she decides to just take the count out and lose, only to
then get right back in the ring and lay Cortez out and put her in the
sharpshooter? Well, anyway, while I hated the finish, it looks like
the Twitterverse enjoyed proceedings.
Sofia Cortez's and
Natalya's match on NXT yesterday was pretty good. I enjoy the Divas
matches on there more than I do on Raw and SmackDown.
When
we came back, we saw the RAW recap that opened Smackdown. Same
package, but suffice to say, that was all we saw. And when we joined
NXT again, it was darkness. That can only mean one thing.

THE ASCENSION vs. DANTE DASH &
GARRETT DYLAN
As
much as I love The Ascension, they are adding too much lighting to
their entrance. It should be the "UV" light and strobing
only. If you didn't know already, Garrett Dylan is actually the son
of actor and singer Kris Kristofferson. And you notice the new
finisher, changing it up from The Blackout? If you listen back very
carefully, you can just hear Joey Styles screaming "TOTAL
ELIMINATION!" all the way back in Stamford... Now here are some
tweets noting how great The Ascension are, because there aren't any
other kind...
I
don't care how goofy their schtick is, I kinda like The Ascension.#NXT
Big
E. Langston had another vignette, ahead of his debut next week.
Personally, I think him & Mark Henry as a team would be
scary-awesome. After the following break, it was main event time and
JR was back in the booth.
SETH ROLLINS vs. DREW
McINTYRE
So
a fun main event, with the interesting result of Drew winning over
one of WWE's hottest prospects. But suffice to say that it's not
just us Scots who love Drew, and there is a lot of love out there for
the guy.
And
with that, our show was done. You may have noted that Byron
suggested that "interim GM" Dusty Rhodes was going to make
a big announcement. Well, as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago,
there will be, starting with next week's show, a tournament to crown
the first NXT Champion. That was resolved at the tapings this past
week. Now while I'm not going to spoiler who won, this is a picture
of the NXT Title belt.
And
with that, I shall see you all for more NXT next week as we begin to
see who is fighting for that very brass ring!
