Canadian Bulldog's "New on DVD (or not)"
By Canadian Bulldog
Looking for that perfect gift this holiday for the wrestling fan on your list? Well, I've heard that this book is a great choice, but in addition to that, here are eight new DVD releases that any insane wrestling fan would love. In the interests of full disclosure, I should mention that a few of these have been featured in previous columns of mine (I blame the writer's strike for the reruns). Also, these DVD's probably don't, you know, actually exist:
Bootylicious: The Best of Junior Fatu Whether you remember him as Junior Fatu or that other name we're not legally allowed to mention, this DVD is a must-have for Junior Fatu fans young and old. For the first time ever (unless I suppose you just TIVO'd it), Junior Fatu's entire career in TNA is chronicled, including all three of his matches in their entirety. In addition, there's a sit-down interview with Junior Fatu, conducted inside a toilet stall, in which wrestling's third-most popular active Samoan holds NOTHING back about his career. Except for his WWE years. Back your ass up to the couch -- and watch this one today!
The Self-Destruction of Muhammad Hassan Muhammad Hassan: a household name and icon in sports-entertainment. His patented theme music sent World Wrestling Entertainment fans into a frenzy. His intensity was unparalleled. His controversial personality was equally unmatched. But one day, Hassan stopped listening to WWE officials and became a terrorist or something. Did he burn out or drop out?
Relive his legenday feuds with Jerry "The King" Lawler, Eugene and The Undertaker, and hear Triple H call Hassan "the most unprofessional guy I've ever worked with." Find out exactly what happened at Great American Bash 2006 when Hassan held up WWE for more money!
George Hackenschmidt: 100 Years Too Soon
George Hackenschmidt helped usher in a new era of sports- entertainment, thanks to his plain black wrestling trunks, hour-long restholds and non-existent mic skills. His innovative style has been liberally borrowed for the last 100 years by the likes of current WWE Legends Hulk Hogan, Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Triple H, Max Moon and many, many more. Highlights include absolutely no video footage whatsoever, as all of it was destroyed in a 1946 fire. Approx. running time: 6 hours.
TNA's 50 Greatest Swerves Total Nonstop Action wrestling has been the home of ~OMG SHOCKING SWERVES~! for the last five years. Now, for the first time ever, you'll get to relive them all. For example, do you remember the time when we told you Hulk Hogan was joining TNA? And then he didn't? Wasn't that SHOCKING~? Or what about when Christian Cage conspired with Larry Zybsko and Earl Hebner for no apparent reason? HILARIOUS! And who can forget all those guys who said they were against Jeff Jarrett. but really weren't? AHAHAHAHAHAHA! They're all here, from Kurt Angle to Kevin Nash, and from Kevin Nash to Kurt Angle. Or maybe there are NO swerves on this, and we're just swerving you again?!? You won't know for sure unless you buy the DVD.
From The Vault: Hillbilly Jim
Hillbilly Jim has been called a "pioneer", a "visionary" and a "jobber" by industry watchers. Now the country boy from Mudlick's legendary career is captured in this new five-disc collection. Highlights include Hillbilly Jim's start as a fan discovered in the audience by Hulk Hogan; his subsequent losses on every single episode of Saturday Night's Main Event, WWE Superstars of Wrestling, WWE Calvacade, WWE Prime Time Wrestling and WWE Maple Leaf Wrestling. You'll learn all about Hillbilly Jim's relatives, such as Uncle Elmer, Cousin Luke, Cousin Junior and the never-before seen Cousin Earl (arrested for swilling moonshine before his TV debut). All this plus hours of hilarious backstage skits involving porcupines, pigs, goats and a particularly drunk Mean Gene Okerlund.
Chris Benoit: What The F**k? There's no denying, despite how we've acted over the past six months, that Chris Benoit was a championship-caliber performer who provided hours of great entertainment for wrestling fans. So what the f**k happened on the one day he didn't show up for work? For the first time ever, WWE is determined to figure out just what the f**k went wrong with the Rabid Wolverine. Enjoy three hours of classic Chris Benoit moments, such as him losing to Triple H at WrestleMania XX, and him losing to MVP at WrestleMania 23. Plus, interviews with John Cena, Bruce Pritchard, Batista, William Regal, Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Sgt. Slaughter and, for some reason, Eric Bischoff, will prove thrilling in their analysis, if somewhat inconclusive. I mean, seriously. What the f**k?
ECW Extreme Leftovers Extreme Championship Wrestling provided many great moments over the years, if you exclude 2006 onwards. However, many of those moments have already been captured on previous WWE releases. So here are the rest. Matches include: Tazz vs. El Puerto Ricano, The Public Enemy vs. Two Local Jobbers, Chris Jericho vs. Don E. Allen, Tommy Dreamer vs. Hack Myers, Steve Corino vs. Some Guy Who Kind Of Looks The Patriot But Isn't, Mikey Whipwreck vs. Danny Doring, Joel Gertner vs. Cyrus The Virus, Sandman vs. Macho Libre, Dances With Dudley vs. JT Smith, and most of the ECW on TNN stuff. Our guarantee: Joey Styles won't shout "OH MY GOD!" even once throughout this DVD. The closest he comes is "Hmm... interesting."
McMahon Just who is Hornswoggle McMahon? To some he is the little leprechaun guy who used to provide comic relief in order to help Finlay win. To others he is the little leprechaun guy who currently provides comic relief in order to... well, we're not entirely sure why, but it has something to do with Mr. McMahon. This 2 disc production takes a look back at what caused Hornswoggle to come out from under the riing and right into some of the most controversial moments ever seen on television. For the first time ever, the onscreen and offscreen intrigues of the worlds most notorious Little Bastard are broken down by the people who know the man best. Exclusive interviews with Little Boogeyman, Max Mini, Super Porky, Dink, Pink, Wink, Queasy, Cheezy, Sleazy , The Macho Midget, and more! Who is the real Hornswoggle McMahon? You decide! -30-
