Crocker! Pathetic Raw Invasions, Mr. T 2010, Back Biting Jobbers, The Nature Boy Eats Grady's Oats, and More

By Dan Crocker Jun 10, 2010 - 8:27 AM

It can be tough writing a column for Thursdays. Everyone has already read enough about Monday Night RAW to be sick of it, and the new Impact hasn't aired yet. On the other hand, it gives me plenty of time to think about things before I write about them. So after thinking about it, RAW sucked   this week. Some people seem to think that the NXT (is that right?) invasion saved the show, but I never watched NXT and I couldn't care less to be honest. As far as invasion angles go, this one is pretty pathetic. They could have just had me invade RAW.   I would have brought a twelve pack of Milwaukee's Best Light, a pack of smokes, and my dog Willy.

It's not all bad, I guess. RAW has some new wrestlers. That's almost always a good thing, though I have a feeling that in a few months many of them will be forgotten or working for TNA (they'll snatch anyone up). It could all end great, don't get me wrong. WWE could really pull this out and make it one of the most exciting times in wrestling in years.   Right now, I remain cynical. Lately, I've found myself looking more forward to TNA every week. TNA, while flawed, still seems fresh at times. I mean I know that I'm not going to see Orton/Cena/HHH in the main event.

All in all, I think they missed the boat by not having a Half Pint Brawlers invasion.

Remember kids, stay off drugs and find Jerry Lawler's crown!

Really?   Did that really happen?   It's the 80s on WWE again. I don't mean that as a good thing. If you remember, WWF was cartoonish and crappy in the 80s. Even as a kid I thought so. Now we have host starring in a misguided attempt to make a movie based on a television show that was never that good staying in character on RAW.   It's as bad, almost, as the infamous Robocop bit. One good thing about WWF programming in the 80s is that there was some jobber, I can't remember his name, who would just bite people on the back and stuff. That was his entire offense. He bit the hell out of Hogan once. I can't find it on Youtube, so you'll just have to trust me on this one. Maybe it was Marv Albert.

How is season two going to go?   How could WWE trust the new group?   Maybe there will be a NXT invasion angle every year.   I don't know. I can't keep up with these kids and their newfangled wrestling stories. In my day, one guy bit another guy on the back until someone got pinned. These days when I'm watching wrestling, I sometimes wonder why I'm not drinking beer and watching Lady Gaga videos with the sound off.

Tonight, however, we get to see the final Impact before Slammiversary. I'm not a huge fan of Sting wrestling for the title again, but I guess it could be worse. Eventually, they're going to have to work a program between Joe and RVD. TNA fans are rabid for it. Somehow, Joe is still way over (and he should be) and they love RVD. When they do do it, I just hope they do it well.

This Sunday is my birthday. Instead of getting Slammiversary for a present, I'm getting the gift of being Ric Flair's protege.

If last Thursday was any indication, Flair is starting to get his groove back on the mic. I liked his interaction with both Styles and Kurt.   He still sounds like he's eating some Grady's Oats while he's talking, but he was funny and he didn't scream the entire thing like Sergeant Carter from Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.

By the way, Grady's Oats was a classic skit from The Ben Stiller Show. Unforunately, I can't find it on the web. So, I leave you with this. Turn the sound down.

 Ladies in freakin' prison!
