Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!
Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Took a much needed week off in order to get some personal stuff done but now I am back and believe me when I say, TONS of news going on out there. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled “Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling PROMOTION this week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy. 1) WWE News and Notes • In the biggest news for WWE in a while, their #2 heel on the entire roster and basically their “go-to” guy Edge is out until 2010 with an Achilles heel injury. It is real unfortunate that every time Edge hits his stride, he goes down to a major injury. First a neck then a pectoral and now this. The bright side is that they can absolutely pull the trigger on the CM Punk heel turn and he can be the top heel for the Smackdown side. Plus, minor spoiler alert but it appears that this time, upon his return, they are going to position Edge as a face. • Chris Jericho remains the unified tag team champions by himself. He has a clause in his contract that he can pick his opponent. Now is the perfect chance to elevate someone into a main event role. My pick would be Miz but my guess is that it is going to be Dolph Ziggler. • Actor/Comedian Seth Green was RAW’s guest host this week. UGH. I like Seth Green and think he is funny. Robot Chicken is hilarious. That being said, he was HORRIBLE as the guest host. What is even worse is that next week, it’s ZZ Top. If this were 1985 then maybe it would be significant. • Kudos to Jeff Hardy who on Smackdown cut the best promo in the history of HIS LIFE. That entire “eye injury” promo including the eye patch was classic. He and Punk have the infamous “magic” and it’s unfortunate that Jeff is going to take time off soon because this feud has EPIC potential. • Kane needs a makeover BAD. He is just stale in his current incarnation. He needs to do something that freshens him up. Just taking time off but returning with the same look, gimmick, etc is lame. • Good luck to Jerry Lawler who is running for Mayor of Memphis. Bad news however is that he has stated that if he wins, he will more than likely stop working for World Wrestling Entertainment to focus on his duties as Mayor. • Shawn Michaels is now expected to be back by Summerslam or if not, at least September. • Undertaker will be out longer. • Strap a rocket to John Morrison’s back. He has pinned C M Punk twice in non-title matches and with Jeff Hardy out the door, he is going to be main eventing against Punk. • Really, breaking up Carlito and Primo? WTF? Already? 2) TNA News and Notes • TNA has officially signed Bobby Lashley to a contract. He debuts this Sunday at the Victory Road pay per view. So for all of you MMA fans, say bye bye to Lesnar/Lashley. No chance in happening. • Expect Taz to debut as Samoa Joe’s mentor this Sunday as well. • Anyone think Angle can get a good match out of Foley? It’s going to be tough without all the gimmicks and such. • Nash has a contest looking for a valet. Nash is the man. Seriously, a valet search for a 49-year-old man who can hardly walk, let alone wrestle. He gets to view tapes of young, hot girls who want to break into entertainment and are probably willing to do anything in order to get famous. Kevin Nash, I salute you. 3) TNA Victory Road Lineup on July 19 • Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley for the TNA title, in their first ever singles matchup. • Beer Money vs. Scott Steiner & Booker T for the tag team titles • A.J. Styles vs. Kevin Nash for the Legends title • Sting vs. Samoa Joe (Taz’s debut) • Tara vs. Angelina Love for the Knockouts title • Homicide vs. Suicide for the X-Title • Team 3D vs. British Invasion • Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca. • Matt Morgan vs. Christopher Daniels • Lashley’s debut 4) Ring of Honor News and Notes • ROH is looking into venues in Arizona to host an event during Wrestlemania weekend, which they started back at Mania XX in NYC. • Still going with my theory that ROH is in financial trouble contrary to their comments stating otherwise. The latest word from Dave Meltzer is that they are currently working on restructuring their business model to shy away from DVDs and instead to focus more on HD Net tapings and selling DVD’s overseas rather than making that their priority in the US. Things really need to turn around for them soon. • Larry Sweeney is considering suing Ring of Honor. Seriously. 5) MMA News and Notes • The MMA world is up in arms over Brock Lesnar’s post fight antics after destroying Frank Mir at UFC 100. I hate to break this to you hardcore MMA fans who despise Wrestling but what Brock did after the fight was ensure that more people will pay to see him fight next in order to see him lose. He knows how to draw money and was doing just that, guaranteeing that more people will pay to watch UFC. • Surprisingly those same Brock haters were perfectly fine with Dan Henderson admitting that he knew Michael Bisping was knocked out after the first right hand and he purposely hit him a second time while he was unconscious to “teach him a lesson”. That’s is fine, Brock talking sh*t, not fine?? WTF? For those who missed it, COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY SHOT. • George St. Pierre is pound for pound the best fighter in Mixed Martial Arts. He completely dominated his biggest challenge to date and won the last two rounds of the fight with a torn groin muscle. Simply amazing. • Chuck Liddell and Charles "Mask" Lewis were inducted into the UFC HOF the night before the PPV. Sad for Lewis since he recently passed. A shame. • Dana White claims he wants Fedor Emelianenko for a fight with Brock but that is likely a long time from now even though that will be the biggest fight in MMA Heavyweight history. The next opponent for Brock is either Randy Couture again should he win against Noguiera in convincing fashion or the winner of Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez. • Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Shogun Rua has been signed by UFC for their October 24th show. So has Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez • UFC 102 is on August 29 and the line up is as follows: • Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira • Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva • Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt • Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt • Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera. 6) Random Thoughts, Links, Pics, ETC. • Random PIC of the week • August 7 in Charlotte at an NWA Legends Convention will feature for the first time in MANY MANY years, the original Four Horsemen reuniting. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Ole Anderson and JJ Dillion will be doing an autograph signing. Also appearing is Barry Windham and you can get a special picture will all 6 of them together at the event. If I only lived in Charlotte. =o( • FEAR THIS MAN. • This Michael Jackson thing is never going to end just like I said it wouldn’t. The latest is that the LAPD is leaning heavily towards ruling his death a homicide. That is going to be HUGE. • Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in Ironman 2. • James Guttman continues to bring the awesome. This weeks Radio Free Insanity is now up and it is an interview with former Highlander Rory McAllister at ClubWWI.com. Go to CLUBWWI.COM now to listen!!! • Ahh, COLLEGE fun. • Disney/Pixar continues to bring the AWESOME. UP is a fantastic movie. Go see it. • Speaking of Fantastic, still catching up on my One Tree Hill and they are still great. Please, just one of you out there tell me you are watching this show. PLEASE. • You know the deal with Christina Aguilera and bras right? She still hates bras. • Finally a big shout out to my friend and a very good DJ, DJ UCH. Check out his site by visiting it at DJUCH.com ![]() Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!! Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the “Anger Management” section of the message board or whichever section you see fit. ~Matt Dawgs World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail Matt at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me. Also, don’t forget to check out CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
