Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!

Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled “Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling PROMOTION this week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy.

1) WWE News and Notes

•    Somehow WWE managed to have a very piss poor pay per view show with an incredibly talented roster. With the exception of Chris Jericho vs. Rey Mysterio, you could have completely missed the Bash PPV and not have missed anything at all.
•    The fantastically booked CM Punk heel turn continues though. Jeff Hardy managed to recapture the World Title however he referee reversed his decision and restarted the match when he noticed that Punk’s foot was under the bottom rope. Punk then faked an eye injury and “accidentally” kicked the referee thus getting himself disqualified.
•    As I said, Jericho and Mysterio stole the show in a fantastically booked finish. Jericho unmasked Mysterio but Rey had a second mask on. He then pinned Jericho to keep his mask and win the IC title.
•    Vince McMahon is back running RAW and for the life of me, I can’t understand how he is implementing some of the ideas that Donald Trump had came up with when he owned it. Just because Trump made these decisions, why does Vince have to abide by them? Why does Vince have to have a guest GM every week? Why can’t Vince veto a 15-person trade amongst the three brands? I don’t get it.
•    Anyway the above mentioned 15 person trade is as follows:
•     RAW GAINS: Evan Borne, Mark Henry, Jack Swagger, Alicia Foxx and Gail Kim
•     SMACKDOWN GAINS: Tyson “Dynamite” Kidd, David Hart Smith, Natayla Neidhart, Matt Hardy and Fit Finlay.
•     ECW GAINS: Shelton Benjamin, Goldust, William Regal, Brie Bella and Nikki Bella.
•    As I stated last week, and the week before, and the week before that, Miz never had a chance. BURIED DEAD aka DEAD AND BURIED. Why book the angle if you’re just going to squash him like that?
•    Lillian Garcia has given her notice to the company. She will be leaving but it is a matter of when. Her contract isn’t up until the end of the year but if they can find a suitable replacement for her, she may be “let go” sooner. A shame as she has been with WWE for over 10 years now.
•    All signs point to it but it appears that Sherri Shepherd from the View is banging MVP. Hmmmm. Interesting no?
•    Dave Batista is expected back in time for Survivor Series.
•     RAW SPOILER: Ted DiBiase Sr. will be next week’s guest GM. Good stuff.
•    Will the HHH/Randy Orton feud ever end? So what if they might add John Cena to the mix. Seriously. If Edge can move out of the tile picture, HHH can too.
•    Cyber Sunday is officially dead. They will no longer be hosting interactive PPV events.
•    Naofumi Yamamoto debuted on ECW and he will be wrestling under the name Yoshitatsu.
•    Abraham Washington debuted on ECW. In FCW he was known as Abraham Saddam Washington, Abraham Osama Washington and Abraham Obama Washington.
•    Sheamus O'Shaunessy finally debuted (on ECW) after working house shows for several months now. He will be wrestling as simply Sheamus.
•    FCW heavyweight champion Tyler Reks also debuted on ECW. So the FCW invasion has officially begun. If only Low-Ki aka KAWAL can recover from his knee injury so he can debut.

2) TNA News and Notes

•    WWE has interesting in signing Shawn Davari aka Sheik Abdul Bashir but he has resigned for 3 years with TNA.
•    Samoa Joe is still on television and still trying to truck along even though he is seriously injured. Such is the life of a professional wrestler. He absolutely should take time off and get surgery done.
•    Raven is done with TNA, which in my eyes is dumb. He looked good in his in ring appearances and he has such a great and unique mind for the business. He can totally be used to help younger talent get over in angles.
•    Taz’s no compete clause is up with and he is free to join TNA. It is expected that he will debut at Victory Road as Samoa Joe’s mentor.

3) TNA Victory Road Lineup on July 19

•    Kurt Angle vs. Mick Foley for the TNA title,
•    Beer Money vs. Scott Steiner & Booker T for the tag team titles
•    A.J. Styles vs. Kevin Nash for the Legends title
•    Sting vs. Samoa Joe
•    Homicide vs. Suicide for the X title,
•    Tara vs. Angelina Love for the Knockouts title
•    Team 3-D vs. British Invasion
•    Sharmell vs. Jenna Morasca.

4) Ring of Honor News and Notes

•    Ric Flair worked the two Chicago dates and there were no issues. He did his autograph signings as well as cut in ring promos on both shows putting the company over.
•    I spoke to someone who works for ROH and he agreed with my sentiment from last week as to their being smoke to problems in the company. Keep your fingers crossed people.
•    Jimmy Jacobs is going to take some time away to get repackaged. The Age of the Fall is done.
•    Petey Williams is getting a surprisingly good reaction from fans in ROH. Hopefully he gets a legit push.
•    Larry Sweeney was at the Chicago shows and isn’t looking any better. No reports on whether or not he was in a different state of mind but he was allowed backstage and at the afterparty.

5) MMA News and Notes

•    My prediction skills were proven when Bobby Lashley defeated Bob Sapp by first round tap out. Go Lashley. He really should have been signed to The Ultimate Fighter 10 along with Kimbo Slice. Lashley is now 4-0 in MMA competition. Problem is, without UFC, there aren’t that many more significant fights for him to take. Eventually, the only fight left will be with Fedor and that is a HUGE step for him to take.

•     UFC 100 is just two weeks away on July 11, 2009. The line-up is as follows:
•    Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir (for unified heavyweight championship)
•    Georges St. Pierre vs. Thiago Alves (for welterweight championship)
•    Dan Henderson vs. Michael Bisping (MW)
•    Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Alan Belcher (MW)

•    Lyoto Machida vs. Mauricio Shogun Rua has been signed by UFC for their October 24th show.

•     UFC 102 is on August 29 and the line up is as follows:
•    Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
•    Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
•    Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
•    Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt
•    Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera.

6) Random Thoughts, Links, Pics, ETC.

•    Random PIC of the week
•    Saw Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. For those expecting Academy Award Winning acting or a logical, sensible plot such as Mystic River, The Godfather, etc, please find yourself another movie. LOL. I liked it for what it is worth but Jesus, there are nothing but logic gaps involved. Completely and utterly nonsensical.
•    I miss COLLEGE.
•    This Michael Jackson story is amazing. We are seriously seeing our generation’s Elvis Presley life unfold. From the stories of rampant prescription drug use to the fact that he isn’t the biological father of his children to the war that is going to explode over his will.
•     Mmm. GRILLING.
•    This week’s RFI guest with James Guttman is Tully Blanchard. Tully, one of the original Four Horsemen was well on his way to having a lengthy career which was derailed by drug use. He and Arn Anderson were big stars, went to WWE and then were on their way to going back to WCW when apparently they found out about a “failed” drug test in WWE. His offer was pulled and that was it for him. He worked the indies and the original ECW (Eastern Championship Wrestling) before leaving. Go to CLUBWWI.COM now!!!
•    Rodwy Roddy Piper was busted for DUI in Los Angeles this week. Sad but true.
•    This is getting crazy, Yet another week gone and Christina Aguilera still hates bras. She must have boob allergies or something.

Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!!

Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the “Anger Management” section of the message board or whichever section you see fit.

 ~Matt Dawgs

World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail Matt at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.

P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me.

Also, don’t forget to check out  CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
