Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!
Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled
“Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling
PROMOTIONthis week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy.
1)WWE News and Notes
· In the biggest news of the week, Rey Mysterio has been suspended for 30 days for violating the WWE Wellness policy. It is his first violation of the policy and while it doesn't come as a surprise to me, the fact that he got caught is a huge surprise. This should effectively kill the rumors that WWE protects their main event talent from violations. Rey is one of the top guys, a huge fan favorite and one of, if not THE top merchandise salesperson in the company. He will be out for 30 days and the assumption is that he is going to drop the title on next week's Smackdown taping because in WWE's announcement, it states that his suspension begins on September 2, 2009.
· WWE Summerslam has come and gone and Jeff Hardy has as well. For a man who has known he was leaving the company he has certainly went above and beyond the call of duty in recent weeks. His main event match with CM Punk stole the show and he definitely did his all in that match. In the end, Punk ended up victorious but it was a very well booked finish.
· The Undertaker has returned to the company sooner rather than later and will be feuding with Punk for the title including next months Breaking Point PPV.
· Vince McMahon is 64. Happy Birthday Vince.
· Floyd “Money” Mayweather was this week’s guest host and quite frankly didn’t do all that much. He was used well in his role and helped MVP and Mark Henry get a Unified Tag Team title match at Breaking Point.
· Speaking of tag teams, Cryme Tyme have improved by leaps and bounds as of late. Good for them.
· Big congratulations to “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson who has signed a contract to work for World Wrestling Entertainment. For those who have never seen him before, he is probably the best technical wrestler in the world today.
· I’m still completely baffled how Batista can be photographed in public after having surgery to repair his injured arm yet still look like he is in his physical prime. It’s as if he has miracle healing powers or something because he obviously hasn’t missed a gym during his time out.
· IN WWE’s TNA-like brain fart of the week, actor Robert Patrick was sitting front row at Summerslam and the graphic under his name read “star of Terminator 2: Judgment Day”. Yes, someone in production thought it would be better to advertise him as the star of a movie from 18 years ago as opposed to the graphic reading “STAR OF WWE’s THE MARINE FEATURING JOHN CENA”!!!!!!!
· Lillian Garcia has tweeted on Twitter that she is not done with the company yet. She will be working a few more weeks but did have her bachelorette party following RAW on Monday in Las Vegas.
· Brett DiBiase has debuted. My gut is that they are grooming him for Ted’s spot in Legacy as Ted needs to turn face in tome for his movie to be released in December. According to Bryan Alvarez, the original goal when Brett and Ted were signed, was to have their younger brother Mike DiBiase also signed because he is also a wrestler and have a group managed by Ted Sr. called the Billionaire Boys. Basically, they would have been the new generation of the Million Dollar Man gimmick. Good idea if you ask me but Mike isn’t under WWE contract. He is currently wrestling for Harley Race and doing NWA shows.
· I did not purchase the Rise and Fall of WCW yet but……from those who I know who have, I have not heard anything positive coming from the documentary portion of it. It’s just sad when someone can hold a grudge that long and rather than making something to be historically accurate, instead makes it a revisionist history.
2) TNA News and Notes
· TNA is continuing on with the fact that Bound for Glory will more than likely be Sting’s final wrestling match. The poster promoting this show features Sting on it and says, “The Final Curtain”.
· By the way, I still fully expect Sting to wrestle for Vince McMahon at least once in his career. Even at age 50, I can see WWE make a run for him.
· Kurt Angle has been allowed back into his Pittsburgh home however this “situation” has not went away. Rhaka Khan has been forced out so other than then Angle’s legal problems, chances are this is the last that wrestling fans will hear about her. Angle does have a court date in September to face these charges.
· Tara
(formerly Victoria in WWE) is seriously going to go into MMA. I’m not saying she won’t be successful because she strikes me as a woman who works hard at what she wants but the ball isn’t exactly in her favor at this stage in the game. Combined with her age and her novice status at MMA, she is really behind the 8-ball on this one. Good luck to her though.
· Only in TNA do they build someone as being Samoa Joe’s mentor for weeks and weeks, have him debut, be Joe’s mentor for three weeks and then convert him to a commentator and no longer Joe’s mentor in the blink of an eye with no sort of angle explaining it. The only mention of it was Taz on commentary saying that he wanted his towel back from Joe. WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS GOD DAMN COMPANY!!!!!
· D’ Angelo Dinero aka The Black Pope HAS IT. He worked a singles match on iMPACT, was showcased well and looks good. We already know he is good on the mic per his WWE stint. Hopefully he gets a solid push. TNA isn’t that good when it comes to making new stars.
· Dixie Carter made her TNA TV debut on iMPACT this week interviewing Bobby Lashley. Hopefully she does not become a full time on air character.
· TNA is adding a Knocckouts Tag Team Title. Just what TNA needs to turn the ship around, MORE TITLE BELTS. UGH.
· Welcome back Scott D’Amore who is an agent with the company again. He isn’t being used on the creative team but when he was, other than the excessive push of Team Canada gimmick, he was a decent booker. Hopefully he can help since Jarrett is now gone.
3) Ring of Honor News and Notes
· As mentioned in the WWE section above, Bryan Danielson has signed with WWE. He has 6 matches left for ROH including his final appearance on September 26th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NY. I am still going to attempt to drag James Guttman out there for this show.
· Danielson’s final matches are as follows:
· September 10th: Danielson & Roderick Strong vs. The American Wolves
· September 11th: Danielson vs. Roderick Strong
· September 18th: Danielson vs. Chris Hero
· September 19th: Danielson vs. Tyler Black
· September 25th: Danielson vs. Davey Richards
· September 26th: Danielson vs. Austin Aries
(Danielson’s final match) for the ROH title.
· Again, like I mentioned last week, ROH on HD Net has some damn solid wrestling but for the most part, the angles are lacking something. When ROH started, they had tons of fantastic angles for feuds. Daniels not wanting to shake hands or respect the Code of Honor, Homicide/Corino, Punk/Raven, Briscoes/Samoa Joe, etc. Now, it just seems so plain.
4) MMA News and Notes
· Shane Carwin vs. Cain Velasquez with the winner facing Brock Lesnar for the heavyweight title has been scrapped. Carwin will now face Brock on November 21st as Brock says he is ready to fight and did not want a long layoff between fights.
· That same show is going to host Tito Ortiz’s return to the company against Marc Coleman. UFC has lined up the rest of the year to have some huge fights including Rashad Evans against Quinton Jackson. Who are respectively the trainers on this season The Ultimate Fighter featuring Kimbo Slice.
· UFC 103 goes head to head on PPV with Floyd Mayweather’s return to boxing against Juan Manuel Marquez.
· Lisa Marie Varon aka Tara in TNA
(formerly Victoria in WWE) wants Kim Couture
(Randy Couture’s ex) for her first MMA fight. Kim has a 1-1 record.
·
UFC 102 is on August 29 from Portland Oregon and the line up is as follows:
· Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
· Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
· Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
· Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt
· Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera.
·
UFC 103 is on September 19 from Dallas Texas and the line up is as follows:
· R.I.P. to IWA Mid-South as Ian Rotten has officially announced that the company is going out of business after the August 28th show. They have cancelled their annual Ted Petty Invitational, which has been one of the better independent wrestling cards around for the past several years.
· First time ever, Clarence Mason talks about his wrestling career right here on CLUBWWI.COM. Check it out!!!
· R.I.P. Senator Edward Kennedy. The royal family of politics is almost gone.
· Christina is back and she is braless aka against bras.
· There was a break in at Lindsey Lohan’s home where apparently no electronic items or jewelry were stolen. Only thing taken was a safe which was ripped out of the wall and according to friends of Lindsey’s, has legal documents as well as “personal” pictures and videos. Translation: SEX TAPE. Coming soon. FACT.
· Big shout out to my friend and a very good DJ, DJ UCH. Check out his site and show some support by visiting him at DJUCH.com
· Finally, we close out with my wife. She has started her own business creating diaper cakes, which are a very original and cost efficient baby shower gift. Please take a second to visit her website: http://www.nydiapercakes.com
Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!!
Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the “Anger Management” section of the message board or whichever section you see fit.

Matt Dawgs
World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail Matt at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.
P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled
“Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me.
Also, don’t forget to check out CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
