Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!
Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled “Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling
PROMOTIONthis week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy.
PREFACE: I just wanted to open up this week’s column with a quick introduction. The below picture of me was posted on my Facebook and on the message board last week. For those of you who didn’t see it and may not know, I have decided to give it one last run in the independent wrestling world. Currently I am training in Union City New Jersey, home of ACE Pro Wrestling. ACE Pro Wrestling is formerly the AWA-NJ promotion, which I last worked for back in 2005. I have been there twice this past week and while the wrestling itself is coming back to me
(like riding a bike), the body healing isn’t as fast as it used to be. That being said, I had always stated that ACE is a solid place for young, up and comers to get their feet wet in the business and mix with a good group of hard working individuals and veterans. For example, on October 10, 2009, at the ACE arena located at 725 Sip Street, in Union City Jerry Lynn will be wrestling against one of the ACE wrestlers, Mo Sexton. The current ACE World Champion is Dan Maff formerly of ROH. So it is definitely solid wrestling for a good price and I hopefully will begin working there sometime before the year is over. The full card for the show can be found by clicking HERE.

1)WWE News and Notes
· Cedric the Entertainer was the host of RAW this week and coincidentally this was the WORST RAW IN QUITE SOME TIME. Complete and utter bullsh*t from start to finish. The only thing worth watching in my book was the class that the company showed in presenting Lillian Garcia’s farewell to the promotion. I fully expected her to get tarred and feathered or to have someone like Beth Phoenix beat her up since in Vince McMahon’s eyes, no one is allowed to leave the company on their own terms. Especially after Ric Flair decided to whore himself out to Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. But they didn’t bury her. They let her go with class so kudos to WWE for that.
· On the flip side, like I said, RAW sucked and next week doesn’t look to be any better with the Reverend Al Sharpton as host. For those fans across the pond, if you do not know who Al Sharpton is, well I am not going to try to explain him. Just watch RAW next week and get a good laugh.
· I do give them credit for the added stipulation in the six man tag main event which was that if Orton/Jericho/Show lost then Orton would have to face Henry/MV/Cena in a gauntlet match next week but vice versa with Cena in Orton’s role if they won. Since Orton pinned Henry with an RKO, Cena runs the gauntlet next week. Good booking.
· MINOR SPOILER ALERT: Vickie Guerrero will be at the Smackdown 10thAnniversary show next week in an on camera role. I wish she would come back full time.
· Speaking of Smackdown’s 10th Anniversary, the main event of that show will be John Cena/The Undertaker/HHH/Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton/CM Punk/Cody Rhodes/Ted DiBiase in an 8-Man tag.
· Linda McMahon’s senate campaign has already hit its first major hurdle. The Associated Press reported this week that while Linda is heavily involved in the WWE “Smackdown Your Vote” campaign that encourages fans to vote in elections, her voting records show that she has a spotty at best voting record herself and that she DID NOT vote in the 2008 Presidential election. Not good for an aspiring senator.
· WWE has talked about running the new Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium for a Wrestlemania. While I can totally see why Cowboy’s owner Jerry Jones would want it, I cannot see WWE drawing 100,000+ for a Wrestlemania. They just lack big enough names to headline that show. No way do they sell it out.
· WWE needs someone to be a historian and help edit announcers. NOT VINCE. Seriously, can someone please explain how on RAW, Jerry Lawler on commentary stated that at the HITC PPV, it will be the first time that DX teams together inside the cell when in fact, just a few minutes before HHH mentioned that the beat Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon and Big Show in Hell in a Cell. WTF? How can someone let that slide? Michael Cole didn’t even correct him.
· And while we are at it, can someone explain how they are having 3 Hell in a Cell matches when they stopped allowing blood on their shows? Interesting no?
· Batista explained that his contract with RAW ended and he wanted to go back to Smackdown since his previous 2 jumping of brands were both due to trades and the draft and weren’t his decision. At least they explained it. Too bad they didn’t explain why he didn’t feel like KILLING Randy Orton who injured him in the first place. Instead, they had a throwaway match on RAW last week with Batista just beating him clean instead of seeking revenge. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but if someone injures me for a long period of time and costs me money, I would want their head.
· PS – I still think he is going to get injured again. It’s just WAY too soon for him to be back.
· Rey Mysterio is back on October 3rd and will be working the Hell in the Cell PPV.
· Dave Meltzer is reporting that Bret Hart has actually been in negotiations about a WWE return where he will be a weekly, on air character. He has actually had talks dating back to when Vickie Guerrero left the promotion.
· Lauren Mayhew is the woman replacing Lillian Garcia. She is a television actress and singer. She may be on Smackdown with either Justin Roberts or Tony Chimel being moved to Raw.
· Michael Cole will be broadcasting the 10th Anniversary of Smackdown show instead of Jim Ross.
· I
n the
“How can we possibly make this company worse than it already is”category, turns out that TNA had fired Jim Cornette in order to make room on the creative team for former Vince Russo partner and friend, Ed Ferrera. That just shows you how important making a successful wrestling company is to those in charge. You get rid of someone like Cornette who is by far one of the smartest men in the history of wrestling for a man who helped Vince Russo completely destroy and multi million-dollar company.
· By the way, my apologies for not plugging last week’s TNA PPV in last week’s column. I was completely oblivious to the fact that they were having one.
· Which leads me to the only positive of Vince Russo’s booking, he has a man-crush on AJ Styles. He had one when he last booked full time for TNA and now that he is basically the head of creative again, he has booked AJ to be the TNA World Champion. Even though the angles are 99.9% of the time horrible, AJ makes a good champion for the company and booking him in that role is a step in the right direction.
· Homicide as a heel = GREAT. Homicide in a stable where he will be on the back burner for Eric Young = F*CKING HORRIBLE!!!! Homicide should be booked as a lunatic loner type. He is the Terry Funk of our generation. No need for him to be a henchman for Eric Young of all people.
· So Hernandez had a Money In the Bank type stipulation to cash in a briefcase for a World Title Shot at anytime he wanted. Instead of after a brutal match the current champion had, he decided to cash it in during a 4 WAY match for the title. WTF? Talk about stacking the deck against someone, he stacked it against himself. I don’t get it.
· Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana had a tryout with TNA this week. Hopefully he gets the job because he deserves a lot more than the Indies. Also, contrary to what has been said by WWE officials claiming that they are not interested in raiding ROH talent, Colt Cabana was another name that WWE was interested in. Considering that they had him under contract, released him even though he was on Smackdown and entertaining, they now want him back. If that doesn’t say anything about their interest in ROH talent, nothing does.
· Lashley fought Rhino on the PPV. TNA
(or maybe it was Lashley) decided that instead of changing his wrestling style to be more MMA based, he worked his normal style, which wasn’t that special to begin with. He did win with a knockout punch though.
· Lacey Von Erich has signed with TNA. I always thought WWE didn’t have enough patience with her, as she could have been useful to them. Then again, I head that she wasn’t easy to work with in developmental and TNA loves to sign locker room cancers so maybe she fits in here.
· Hulk Hogan is doing promotional work in Australia. The only reason I am writing this in the TNA section is because one reporter asked him whatever happened to Scott Steiner and Hogan’s answer was, “I don’t know where he is or what he has been up to.” LOL.
· Angelina Love
(Angel Williams) as backstage at the TNA tapings this week. She lives in Florida even though she is Canadian. She is still trying to get her work visa in order.
· D-Lo Brown and Pat “Simon Diamond” Kenney were re-hired as backstage agents in the wake of Jim Cornette’s and BG James departures from the company. Both are good hires if you ask me. Brown will be wrestling from TNA from time to time but for the most part, he has been telling friends that his days as an in ring performer are almost at an end.
4) Ring of Honor News and Notes
· Things are looking bleaker and bleaker for the company. Latest I head was that the September 26th show in the Hammerstein in NY was at one point considered the LAST SHOW for the company. Luckily, HD Net has bailed them out temporarily from financial peril. Like I said a few months ago when the sh*t started hitting the fan, if you haven’t had a chance to see ROH live, do yourself a favor and do so soon. Because by the looks of it, there isn’t much time left. I say before the New Year ends, look for them to be gone.
· By all accounts, Bret Hart in ROH has been a huge success and he has been a pleasure to work with according to company officials. ROH would like him to have more of a role within the company and it is something he is considering. Hopefully ROH can manage to stay afloat for this to happen.
· Bryan Danielson’s and Nigel McGuinness’ final matches are as follows:
· September 25th: Danielson vs. Davey Richards
· September 25th: McGuinness vs. Roderick Strong
· September 26th: Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness
5) MMA News and Notes
· The Biggest MMA news of the week has to be the fact that Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has retired from MMA fighting over a number of recent “mis-truths” by UFC President Dana White. For those of you who do not follow UFC or MMA, Dana White, while a good matchmaker and businessman, is basically an immature frat boy. He has no problem calling someone a faggot, he has no problem cursing out talent and publically bashing other promotions in his blogs. He is basically a younger Vince McMahon with no internal edit button when he speaks. He has basically went on the warpath when Jackson backed out of his December 12th fight with Rashad Evans in order to finish making his A-Team remake movie. He has publically called Jackson a moron, an imbecile and other stuff. Jackson, basically fed up with White, stated that White has lied to him numerous times in the past and he has had it. He feels like he wants to get into acting full time and can make more money in film than in UFC so he quit. Basically as of right now, Evans vs. Jackson isn’t going to happen which kind of puts a damper on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter, which debuted last week with them as coaches.
· On a personally note, I totally believe that Rampage will be back in action eventually.
· Strikeforce has their debut show on CBS on November 7th featuring the debut of Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers live from Chicago.
· Herschel Walker has signed with Strikeforce. YES, THAT Herschel Walker. 48 year old former NFL Football player.
· Vitor Belfot is back winning in fantastic fashion. While this fight could have gone either way prior to the start, I don’t think many expected Vitor to win like he did, first round knockout.
· Sad to say but Mirko Cro Cop is done. He just doesn’t have it anymore and I think he should just fight in Japan for the paydays. He isn’t going to be a major player in UFC like everyone had hoped prior to his original debut.
· I say Frank Trigg gets cut. At least he has a career in wrestling waiting for him.
· If anyone doubts the skills of Floyd “Money” Mayweather, please watch the HBO replay of his fight from last week where he completely embarrassed Juan Manuel Marquez. PLEASE.
· You heard it last week from me and I am repeating it again for those who are hard of hearing, KIMBO SLICE GOES HOME NEXT WEEK. He isn’t going to beat “Big Country” Roy Nelson.
· Chuck Liddell received 22 points in his dance on Dancing with the Stars this week. He wasn’t horrible but not his score was on the low end. He did get a good reaction from the audience though.
·
UFC 104 is on October 24th from Los Angeles California and the line up is as follows:
· Aubrey O’Day is upset. I don’t care; I’d still nail her. PS – HERE’S the pic she is talking about.
· One week he’s in TNA, the next week he gets released. The following week after that, HE’S A GUEST ON James Guttman’s Radio Free Insanity!!! BG James is this week’s guest and if you haven’t listened to the interview yet, HURRY UP!!! It’s a good one. If you’re not a member, you should join CLUBWWI.COM right now. Check it out!!!
· The New York Giants are 2-0 with a huge win against division rivals the Dallas Cowboys in The new Cowboy Stadium in front of a record 105,121 people. JESUS H. CHRIST!!!!!
· Former NY Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress has started his two-year jail sentence. Excuse me for not crying a river for him.
· The New York Yankees have clinched the wild card playoff spot and can clinch the division this weekend against the Boston Red Sox. It’s feeling pretty nice being a Yankee fan right about now.
· Lots and lots of new and some decent show now airing on TV. I still haven’t seen “Flash Forward” yet but I have it saved on my DVR and it is getting good reviews.
· “How I Met Your Mother” has also returned and it is official, IT’S AWESOME!!!
· Big shout out to my friend and a very good DJ, DJ UCH. Check out his site and show some support by visiting him at DJUCH.com
· Before we close out with my wife's plug, I also have one other thing to plug, My son is in a GAP casting call contest. I would appreciate it greatly if you can just take 2 minutes of your day to log onto the link below and vote for him. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
. And Finally, My wife has started her own business creating diaper cakes, which are a very original and cost efficient baby shower gift. Please take a second to visit her website: NY Diaper Cakes
Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!!
Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the “Anger Management” section of the message board or whichever section you see fit.

World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail Matt at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.
P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me.
Also, don’t forget to check out CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
