Random Thoughts from Matt Dawgs: Summerslam, Nick Hogan Doesn't Know Best, Dancing With The Stars, Mr. Kennedy McMahon, Joba, Suspensions Galore, AmDrag's Eye, and More
By Matt Dawgs
Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations.
Greetings from under the New Blue Yankee cap.
The Biggest party of the summer, Summerslam has come and gone and I am not sure but I think I watched a completely different show than most fans. I thought it was a damn good show from top to bottom and other than the results of a few matches, I enjoyed everything. The work was good from everyone, EVEN Khali. The main event was off the charts and John Cena, boos and all has really cemented himself as a top guy in professional wrestling. He isn’t the “werkrate” machine that people all want to see but everything he does, he does it excellently. As for Randy Orton, he is by far the top heel in wrestling right now. ALL OF WRESTLING. As I said, only a few things pissed me off about the show.
First thing was Mysterio’s silver paint. That is just plain annoying. I was watching the show on my brother’s brand new 56 inch flat screen TV and the first thing I said when I saw Rey Rey was that his TV was broken and half of the screen was in black and white. That’s what it looked like.
Next thing was….Kennedy. In a match involving Carlito, who spent the better part of last year losing high profile matches, there is no logical reason for Kennedy taking the fall in the three way. NONE. Especially if they are building to what they are apparently building to. More on this later.
The backstage skit with Mae Young and Vince was crap. The rest were kind of funny actually.
The final thing I hated was the finish of Batista/Khali. Horrible F’N booking.
CM Punk lost again. I told almost everyone that was going to be the case. Poor decision and a very, very weak finish. It was magnified by the fact that Morrison barely got his foot on the ropes. But no worries because Punk won a four way on ECW which makes him number one contender to Morrison’s ECW title. So they will meet for the 116th time at the Unforgiven PPV where Punk will lose….yet again.
Britney Spears new song is
HERE.
Also, court documents revealed her income is approximately $700,000 PER MONTH. Amazing.
Next month on a “very special episode” of Hogan Knows Best, Nick Hogan almost kills one of his friends while speeding over 100 miles per hour and crashing his yellow Toyota Supra (which was featured in an episode during season 1 of Hogan Knows Best) into a palm tree during a street drag race. Nick, (who got his license last season) has been cited for speeding three times in the past year for going 115 mph in a 70 mph zone, 57 mph in a 30 mph zone and 106 mph in a 70 mph zone. Go speed racer go!!!! What makes the story THAT much worse is that his friend was a Marine who did two tours in
Jeff Hardy is back to work. In a related story, drugs are bad.
So is Umaga a heel or a face? Sure Hardy was going to jump him on Monday but Jeff was over like gangbusters and yet they popped when Umaga turned on him and destroyed him first.
American Dragon Brian Danielson has a fractured orbital bone due to a beat down he received by ROH champion Morishima. Now I love Danielson as much as the next ROH fan does but seriously, this guy needs to tone it down a notch or else he is going to have a short career. He continues to get these serious issues and they are due to the style he chooses to work. Enough is enough. Calm down a bit and his career will last longer. Does he really love the freedom of working his own style of matches all that much that he doesn’t want to “give in” and sign with WWE or TNA in order to make a better living and suffer less injuries? I don’t get it and would love to meet Danielson and have a heart to heart with him so he could explain it to me.
New Dancing with the Stars cast:
Jennie Garth - Actress of Beverly Hills 90210 fame
Marie Osmond – of the Osmond’s fame with her brother Donny.
Albert Reed - Apparently, he's a model of some sorts
Melanie Brown a.k.a. Scary Spice of the Spice Girls
Helio Castronetes - Race car driver
Jane Seymour - Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman
Jose Moran – Hot model who used to date David Blaine
Sabrina Bryan - Member of the Cheetah Girls
Mark Cuban – Billionaire and owner of the Dallas Mavericks
Cameron Matheson - Soap star Ryan Lavery on All My Children
Floyd Maywather Jr. – Pound for Pound the best boxer in the world.
Good cast with the exception of Floyd Mayweather Jr. I am a huge Floyd fan but this cannot be a good idea for his career. Not because the show is cheesy of anything like that. More so because the show runs from September through November. He has a fight scheduled in early December against Ricky Hatton which for non-boxing fans out there, IS A BIG DEAL. Hatton is probably the one guy in all of boxing that has a legit shot at beating him and ending his undefeated streak. Mayweather normally takes 8 weeks to train. The rigors of learning to dance and the schedule they keep to train is going to wear down Floyd and cause problems if he expects to box and dance at the same time. If he doesn’t, he is only going to have 3 weeks to train for the fight should he make the finals of DWTS. Good luck Floyd.
Heroes’ season 1 is now out on DVD. If you did not watch this show last season, do yourself a favor and buy the DVD set. This show is awesome and the new season starts September 24th on NBC. UP AGAINST RAW TOO!!!!
So back to the Kennedy thing; apparently the original plan in the whole paternity thing was to reveal Ken Kennedy as Mr. McMahon’s son. While I think it is a good idea and has potential, I think that WWE is onto the fact that most fans now know that is where they were heading and they are now swerving us. They are placing giant red herrings to make us think that is still where they are going and at the end of the day, they are going to swerve us and reveal it is someone else. I have no idea who they are going to go with but if I had to guess, I would go with CM Punk. He is the only other name on the roster that could benefit from the rub and eventually get over with the label of being a McMahon. They can even state that is what the M in CM stands for. Chris McMahon. Now before I get hate mail, I know his real name isn’t Chris. They can say it is though for storyline’s sake. Not that it will happen. It will probably end up being Kennedy since Raw is live from Kennedy’s hometown of
Poor Owen Wilson man. I was shocked when I heard the news. For those not “in the know”, actor Owen Wilson attempted suicide last weekend. He slit his left wrist with a knife and took a bottle of sleeping pills. He was found in his
TNA……**sigh** I don’t know if I want to discuss them this week. Should I? Nah, I think I will pass. At least for now I will anyway. Maybe further in the column I will talk about them but for right now, I won’t. Can’t stand the “All Angle, All the Time” mantra they seem to be going with.
Marcus Cor Von update; According to Dave Meltzer, Cor Von is attending to a family emergency as he has been placed in charge of taking care of his young niece and nephew. I am assuming that his brother/sister are unable to care/provide for them for whatever reason. This is a really classy move by both Marcus for sacrificing his career to do this as well as WWE for allowing him to take as much time as he needs.
The F’N Yankees drive me nuts. They chop
Apparently Lindsey Lohan failed a drug test WHILE in rehab. WTF? How do you manage to do that is beyond me? Bottom line is, she is still F’N hot. Smoking hot. Rumor has it that she also got caught banging some dude in the bathroom. Lucky dude. Not for nothing, but if I ever have the chance to meet this broad, I am definitely nailing her. Her hotel room, bar or club bathroom, her car, local McDonalds, it doesn’t matter.
Apparently Johnny “the Bull” Stamboli is close to a return with WWE. Congrats Johnny. I always thought he had some solid mid card potential.
WWE 24/7 had a totally awesome Legends Roundtable in August concerning the Monday Night Wars. The panel was moderator Jim Ross, Jerry “the King” Lawler, Michael “P.S.” Hayes, Mick Foley and Eric Bischoff. For those who have never seen 24/7, this show is a 2 hour discussion (with clips) of whatever subject(s) they have for the month. This episode was all about Raw vs. Nitro and has the panel asking questions and discussing things. It was an eye opener because a lot of heat was reserved for Bischoff who I might add, defended himself greatly and didn’t come off like a douche (although Michael Hayes seemed bitter). Bischoff was greatly insightful and honest and provided some useful information including the fact that the black and white nWo promos were by accident. The reason they were spliced into just sound bites by Hogan, Hall and Nash was because when they tried to cut a promo with the three at the same time, all of them rambled on and on for a long time. So they had to shorten the promos and broke it up into parts. Good stuff.
WWE® Statement On Performer Suspensions
-- STAMFORD, Conn., August 30, 2007 - Based on independent information received from investigators from the Albany County, NY D.A.’s office, WWE has today, under the penalty provisions of its wellness policy, issued suspension notices to 10 of its performers for violations. It has been WWE’s practice not to release the names of those who have been suspended, but notice has been sent to all WWE performers that names of anyone who is suspended under the Wellness Policy as of November 1 will be made public.
The above is HUGE news. This shakes up a lot of things and while admirable that WWE is stepping up and doing something about the problem; it is also causing a HUGE problem for the company. If the list of wrestlers suspended (according to Sports Illustrated) is accurate, then WWE is going to need to figure out a way to rewrite most of their angles and how to write out top stars. Here is the list according to SI:
•
Chris Benoit, who died June 24, 2007, received nandrolone and anastrozole in February 2006. (Anastrozole is used by athletes to counter side effects of steroid use, such as water retention and breast enlargement.)
•
Two weeks prior to Eddie Guerrero's death on Nov. 13, 2005, he was sent nandrolone, testosterone, and anastrozole. Guerrero died in a
•
Chavo Guerrero, who found his uncle Eddie dead in the Minneapolis hotel room, received, among other drugs, somatropin (HGH), nandrolone and anastrozole between April 2005 and May 2006.
•
Between November 2003 and February 2007, Shane Helms, a/k/a The Hurricane, received, among other drugs, testosterone, genotropin (HGH) and nandrolone. (As previously reported by SI, he allegedly received HGH from an
•
Starting in September 2004 through February 2007, Randy Orton received somatropin, nandrolone, stanozolol.
•
John Hennigan, a/k/a Johnny Nitro, a.k.a. Johnny Morrison, is the current WWE Extreme Championship Wrestling's heavyweight champion. Between June 2006 and February 2007 he was prescribed somatropin, anastrozole, testosterone, stanozolol and chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced naturally during pregnancy. (HCG is taken by anabolic steroid users to stimulate the production of testosterone, which is suppressed as a result of steroid use.)
•
Ken Anderson, a/k/a Mr. Kennedy, lost to Eddie Guerrero in Guerrero's final match on Nov. 11, 2005. Kennedy received shipments of anastrozole, somatropin and testosterone between October 2006 and February 2007.
•
Shoichi Funaki received somatropin (HGH) in March 2006.
•
Brian Adams, a/k/a Crush, who retired from the pro circuit in 2001, was found dead of unknown causes on Aug. 13. He received nandrolone, testosterone and Somatropin or HGH in December 2006.
•
Charles Haas was prescribed anastrozole, somatropin, stanozolol, nandrolone and chorionic gonadotropin between August 2006 and January 2007.
•
Edward
Fatu received somatropin (HGH) between July and December 2006.
•
Between November 2004 and November 2006, Darren Matthews received stanozolol, somatropin, genotropin, and anastrozole.
•
Adam Copeland, a/k/a Edge, received somatropin, genotropin (both HGH), and stanozolol between September 2004 and February 2007.
•
Sylvain Grenier received somatropin, nandrolone, genotropin and stanozolol, starting in February 2005 through July 2006.
Should be a fun weekend for the WWE with Raw, Smackdown and ECW all being taped for next week. Same with the overseas tour all the crews are doing. What sucks the most about this is Randy Orton. If memory serves me correct, he already has a drug suspension and a discipline suspension. Since this will be his second drug suspension, he is going to be out for 60 days instead of 30 days. Next suspension after that is termination.
So this whole suspension thing sure blows holes in WWE’s plans huh? As you read above, Mr. Kennedy is supposed to be Mr. McMahon’s son. Guess that’s out of the question now huh? They are going to have to scramble to fix this mess aren’t they?
September 11, 2007 is rapidly approaching. Not only is that a day of remembrance (and should be a national holiday) but Kanye West and 50 Cent are both releasing albums. Good day to be a hip hop fan.
USA Basketball is crushing their opponents in the FIBA World Championships. They are playing like USA Basketball of 1992 (The Original Dream Team). LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony are destroying international competition. Anthony is leading the FIBA in scoring with 22 points per game and LeBron is leading FIBA in field goal percentage shooting an out of this world, 74% from the field. If they keep this up, we got ourselves another Olympic Gold in 2008.
Randy Couture is amazing. He is capable of so many great things in MMA and it captivates fans everywhere. The things he does at his age against better opponents is something else. If you don’t watch UFC either full time or casually, I suggest you do as Couture is something to watch.
Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you all next week.
