Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!

undefined undefined undefined undefined  undefined undefined undefined undefined

Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled “Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling PROMOTION this week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy.

1) WWE News and Notes

·     The proof is in the pudding. Celebrities who are wrestling fans continue to be good hosts for RAW. Freddie Prinze Jr. was this week’s host and he   did a respectable job including taking the Randy Orton neck breaker in the opening angle, delivering all his lines with conviction and actually caring about being on the show since he didn’t have anything to promote unlike Jeremy Piven who didn’t give two sh*ts about appearing as a host.

·       Props to HHH and Shawn Michaels who finally did what is right for business on RAW and got their asses handed to them in an old school wrestling beat down leading into Summerslam by the hands of Legacy. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase left them both laying and had WWE not had a ban on blood, they would have both been bloody messes. Everyone knows that DX is winning at the PPV but history has shown that HHH would have not let someone get heat on him regardless. So fans will want to see DX get revenge on Sunday.

·      Good luck to Linda McMahon who has stated that she plans on running for the United States Senate. Chances are she isn’t going to win but she does have enough money to run till the end.

·      Everyone please pray for “Dr. Death” Steve Williams as his cancer has returned. He has beaten it once but odds aren’t exactly in his favor. So keep him in your thoughts. He is one tough cookie and is definitely up for the fight.

·      Jeff Hardy is most likely done at Summerslam or the RAW on the following day. He has a project with MTV that he hopes to have picked up. If it does, he probably won’t be back anytime soon. If it doesn’t, he’ll be back sooner rather than later.

·      Lillian Garcia is also done at Summerslam. She has been with the company a real long time. She is getting married and has told management that she wants to move on from wrestling. So chances are that she is gone and will not be returning. I wish her well as she was awesome.

·      WWE developmental Diva Angela Fong has been doing ring announcing on house shows lately so she will more than likely be Lillian’s replacement.

·      This week’s RAW guest host from Las Vegas will be Floyd “Money” Mayweather. I am going to bet that he is going to play a heel.

·      WWE is going to build Edge’s return for Mania against Jericho. It all depends on Edge’s recovery time.

·      Future guest hosts confirmed for RAW are Bob Barker, the Rev. Al Sharpton, Nancy O'Dell, Floyd Mayweather and LeBron James.

·       Remember a few weeks ago when I said Eugene was hired. Well he was Future Endeavored too. Bye Eugene. The rumored reason was that he was let go cause he was out of shape.

·      The Rise and Fall of WCW DVD comes out next week. I purposely didn’t watch any previews for it because I want to have a clear head before going on. While I know the documentary is going to be good, I am 99.9% positive that it will not be historically accurate. But I am going to buy it anyway.

·      The Undertaker is going to return soon and WWE is shortly going to begin to build for his return. He is more than likely going to feud with CM Punk for the title upon his return. I do believe that either Matt Hardy or Rey Mysterio will be Punk’s first challenger before Taker.

2) Summerfest Line Up

    ·       WWE TITLE: Randy Orton © vs. John Cena

    ·       WORLD TITLE: Jeff Hardy © vs. CM Punk in a TLC match

undefined undefined undefined undefined ·       ECW TITLE: Christian © vs. William Regal

·       UNIFIED TAG TITLES: Chris Jericho & The Big Show © vs. Cryme Tyme

·       US TITLE: Rey Mysterio © vs. Dolph Ziggler

·       HHH and Shawn Michaels vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase

·       Jack Swagger vs. MVP

·       Great Khali vs. Kane

undefined undefined undefined undefined  undefined undefined undefined undefined

3) TNA News and Notes

undefined undefined undefined undefined

      ·      Red flags and warning signals continue to be raised. Problem is, the powers that be in TNA continue to ignore them. I am talking about Kurt Angle who was arrested last week for allegedly stalking his girlfriend, fellow TNA personality Rhaka Khan. Angle apparently assaulted her in his home and she filed a restraining order against him. He then followed her to a Starbucks. Angle denies these charges and says he was looking for a hotel and didn’t even know that she was in that Starbucks. Angle was found in possession of HGH. The reason I said more red flags are being raised is because this continues a string of unusual behavior and public incidents.

·       Say what you want about WWE and some of their decisions but I guarantee that Kurt Angle’s arrest this week has completely destroyed any chance of Angle going back to them when his TNA contract expires in a few months.

·       TNA and Spike TV have come to agreement on a new 3-year deal lasting until 2012. They also have 10 one-hour specials planned during that period.

·      Taz has officially replaced Don West as color commentator for iMPACT. West has been moved into the marketing department and will oversee a new collectibles section of the website. Not for nothing, while TNA booking absolutely makes the show unwatchable, this move is a good step forward to at least make those who can sit through 2 hours of crap, at least tolerable.

·       Samoa Joe defeated Homicide to win the X-division title. Normally I would like this move but Homicide barely had a chance to run with the title and to make matters worse, their match at Hard Justice was barely given time.

·        Pope D’Angelo Dinero aka Elijah Burke of WWE fame has “IT”. He looks like a STAR, presents himself like a STAR and can wrestle like a STAR. Sadly he now works for TNA so he will never be a STAR.

·       Velvet Sky aka Talia Madison is HOT.

·       AJ Styles retired from wrestling on TNA this week.

·       SPOILER ALERT : AJ Styles comes out of retirement from wrestling next week.

·       Dave Meltzer is reporting that Kurt Angle’s arm is atrophying. For those who do not know what that is, take a look at Paul Orndorff’s arms. One is noticeably smaller than his left. That is due to nerve damage. One arm loses strength and it becomes difficult to use as you lose strength. With Angle, it is happening to both. That my friends is NOT A GOOD THING.

4) Ring of Honor News and Notes

undefined undefined undefined undefined

     ·       The ladder match is back with Kevin Steen and El Generico facing the American Wolves on September 26 in NYC. I don’t know but I am going to see if I can convince WWI’s own James Guttman to attend. The last ladder match took place between The Briscoe’s vs. Steen and Generico over two years ago. Let’s just say that after that match, then booker Gabe Sapolsky decided it would be best for the company to stay away from these matches if they wanted to prolong their careers.

·        Even during this financial crisis, ROH is continuing with their expansion plans as they are going to be running a show in Los Angeles in conjunction with the Wrestle Reunion tour.

·        Angle wise, I am not digging ROH on HD Net. Wrestling wise, the show is damn good. Not for nothing though, Gabe seemed to be a better booker to me.

·       DVD sales are down drastically. Not a good thing.

5) MMA News and Notes

undefined undefined undefined undefined

      ·      Confirmed for UFC 106 on November 21, 2009 from Vegas is Brock Lesnar defending his UFC Heavyweight title against the undefeated (and very skilled) Shane Carwin. Carwin has won all 11 of his fights by first round ref stoppage.

·      Carwin’s original next scheduled opponent was supposed to be Cain Velasquez. No word on who Cain will be fighting next.

·      Also on the same card is the UFC return of Tito Ortiz as he battles UFC Legend Mark Coleman.

·      In news that shocked me, Gina Carano was completely overmatched by Chris Cybog in the first ever MMA woman’s title match. The referee stopped the match at 4:59 of the first round (of a 5 minute round). Many people are claiming that it was a bad stoppage and that the ref should have let the time expire but the fact is, Gina was in the fetal position, she was gassed and taking a lot of punishment. Chances are, she would have either not gotten out of the corner for round 2 and if she did, she most likely would have been stopped in the second. Kudos to Cybog who is now the pound for pound best woman fighter in the world.

·       For those who missed it, CARANO vs. CYBORG.

·       September 16, The Ultimate Fighter with Kimbo Slice debuts on Spike TV

·       “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell is joining this seasons cast of Dancing with the Stars. Sadly, as awesome as he was in his UFC career, this show is going to give him more exposure than anything he has ever done in UFC. Good luck to him.

undefined undefined undefined undefined

·       UFC 102 is on August 29 from Portland Oregon and the line up is as follows:

·       Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira

·       Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva

·       Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt

·       Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt

·       Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera.

undefined undefined undefined undefined

·       UFC 103 is on September 19 from Dallas Texas and the line up is as follows

·       Rich Franklin vs. Vitor Belfort

·       Mirko Fillipovic vs. Junior dos Santos

·       Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann

·       Josh Koscheck vs. Frank Trigg

·       Tyson Griffin vs. Hermes Franca

6) Random Thoughts, Links, Pics, ETC.

undefined undefined undefined undefined

     ·       Random PIC of the week

·       CLUB WWI continues to rock and roll. This week is a very good interview with Pierre-Carl Ouellet as well as having new WWI Guest Columnist Eric Watts return with his Mega Watts audio update. This time he answers YOUR questions. If you haven’t done so by now, JOIN CLUBWWI.COM TODAY!!!

·       In what is going to be the best action film in the history of movies, Bruce Willis has signed on to join the cast of the Expendables. For those keeping tally, the Expendables is a Sylvester Stallone movie which stars Stallone, Dolph Lungren, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Charisma Carpenter, Brittney Murphy and Eric Roberts. WOW.

·       I saw the new Fast and Furious movie. Pleasantly surprised. Not bad at all. How is it that a Vin Diesel movie isn’t bad?

·       Sorry to Aaron Wood but F*CK SCOTLAND. Your government sucks balls. (JG Note:  Matt's views on Scotland or any other countries are his alone and do not...well, you know.)

·       Roller coasters are FUN.

·      The New York Yankees have the best record in all of baseball and have two legitimate MVP candidates in Mark Texiera and Derek Jeter. This is AWESOME.

·      Christina oh Christina, why do you hate BRAS.

·       All you 24 fans out there, I have some possible not so good news. I am hearing rumblings that this may be the last season of the show. Fox officials are considering ending the series after this season due to production costs. The show apparently is costing more and more each year to produce and they are not sure if the cost justifies the continuance of it. They have not made any final decision one way or another but it may not be good.

·       Finally a big shout out to my friend and a very good DJ, DJ UCH. Check out his site and show some support by visiting him at DJUCH.com

Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!!

~ Matt Dawgs

undefined undefined undefined undefined  undefined undefined undefined undefined

World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail James at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.

undefined undefined undefined undefined  undefined undefined undefined undefined

P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me.

undefined undefined undefined undefined  undefined undefined undefined undefined

Also, don’t forget to check out CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
