WWE News and Notes
- Here is the latest on the TNA/WWE lawsuit. WWE had requested a conference in Nashville on Monday to request that the deadlines for discovery be extended. TNA was looking for the hearing to begin on June 11th but WWE is claiming that they were blindsided by this lawsuit and do not have enough time to adequately prepare. TNA wants to depose Triple H and John Laurinaitis (as well as Ric Flair) however WWE is stating that both Triple H and Laurinaitis have previous television commitments as well as international travel (WWE has a tour in Spain starting this week). During the conference, WWE provided a timeline of the situation and noted that when John Laurinaitis received the information from Wittenstein on April 27th, Laurinaitis subsequently handed over the info on that day to their legal team and Wittenstein was fired later in the day. They then noted that TNA was contacted on May 3rd which contradicts TNA’s original timeline of “several weeks”. WWE did not that they do not think it would be fair business practice to hand over their laptops, blackberries or computer servers based on TNA’s lawsuit because it would allow TNA to access confidential information. They did confirm that they had their technical support staff and security team search the email server of all of their management and creative teams several times as well as Wittenstein’s laptop and blackberry and found no evidence that the material he surrendered to WWE was sent out or duplicated. Wittenstein has in fact hired an attorney although he has yet to be formally served the lawsuit. He has a hearing on July 12th in regards to the restraining order against him by TNA in regards to handing over any materials he has in his possession and he has until June 11th to oppose the lawsuit or request an extension like WWE did.
- WWE Legal Eagle Jerry McDevitt is personally handling the case for WWE. Normally while he is the lead attorney for all things WWE related, he has juniors from the staff at his firm handle most of the lawsuits. This time, he is doing it.
- Vince McMahon will be returning to RAW next week to evaluate John Laurinaitis job as General Manager. If you are asking yourself why he is returning considering in storyline, he was removed from having authority by HHH per the Board of Directors for abusing his power as GM and then came back to somehow remove HHH from having authority per the Board of Directors for abusing his power as GM even though HHH is now back and somehow has more power than John Laurinaitis and now Vince is coming back to review Laurinaitis performance as GM then pat yourself on the back because you are just as confused as I am. So you know, Vince’s return is 100% in correlation to the 2.7 rating from last week which sent WWE into a panic.
- By the way, Triple H vetoed Brock Lesnar’s contract which included all the perks that John Laurinaitis agreed to because it did not go to HHH for approval yet he allowed Big Show to interfere during the Laurinaitis vs. Cena match against the Board of Director’s stipulation and then approved Show’s new contract which gave him a huge raise, include days off of Show’s choosing and be ironclad and unbreakable?? Really WWE?
- RAW just seems to be getting worse and worse and worse. I found little to no entertainment value in RW on Monday. Sin Cara looked good out there but he was working with the sole person in the company who he can have a good match with. CM Punk vs. Kane was decent but I feel like we have the same matches taking place on RAW and Smackdown each and every week. It is some variation of Punk vs. Bryan vs. Kane ending in the odd man out interfering or distracted by A.J.
- I think that the Michael Cole humiliation at the end of the show would have meant more had it happened during Cole’s peak as a heel over a year ago. By doing it now when Cole has obviously toned down his act over the last few months made Cena to look like a big bully. Totally counter-productive.
- Speaking of, what was the f*cking point of Dolph Ziggler making a big stink the past few weeks about wanting to go solo and break away from Jack Swagger only to job him out to Sheamus? Then if they want to push Ziggler as a main event level talent, they wonder why no one buys him as one. It is because we are conditioned to not see him as one. Why couldn’t they use Swagger to do the job? That would have made more sense.
- So Tensai finally loses on television and the bloom is off the rose. How regretful do you think WWE is in hiring him back? Or at least pushing him as a main event talent in a dumb gimmick that was destined to fail?
- Did WWE really announce Sin Cara as the most popular wrestler in the history of Mexico? They seriously said this? I can understand wanting to fool fans in the United States about this but a lot of RAW and Smackdown’s fan base is Hispanic as it is the fastest growing market in the US. That means that a ton of Mexican and other Hispanic descent fans watch these shows. That means that the odds are, A LOT of people are going to be offended by the above since El Santo is practically a patron saint in Mexico with statues of him all across the country and his death date is considered a holiday in the country. Also, I wonder how Rey Mysterio feels about this since regardless of how they push Sin Cara, so long as Mysterio is still employed by WWE he is going to be more popular than Cara.
- Why was Eve not used on RAW in any capacity? Also of note, and this is a minor Smackdown spoiler for tonight, John Laurinaitis is not on the show tonight so rather than Eve or David Otunga being used as his replacement, it is announced that he placed Teddy Long in charge of the show. How much sense does that make?
- Brodus Clay is officially moving permanently to the Smackdown roster. This is a spoiler from tonight’s show. Of course Daniel Bryan and Kane are also “exclusive” to the Smackdown roster yet are on RAW each and every week.
- The 1,000th episode of RAW is set to feature a ton of cameos and nostalgia as the creative team has been informed to treat the show like a PPV. It is also the first permanent 3-hour RAW. WWE has reached out to about 20 – 30 former stars that worked for the company. Shawn Michaels and HHH are going to reunite DX for the show and it is being speculated that Brock Lesnar will make an appearance to continue his storyline with Triple H possibly by laying out Shawn. There has also been talk of the Undertaker making an appearance. Earlier this year, the plan was for Taker to only work Wrestlemania and the build up for them going forward but WWE is looking to score a big rating and come out strong out of the gate for their first permanent 3-hour RAW.
- WWE also announced that Triple H will make his return at the “No Way Out” PPV next Sunday to address the Brock Lesnar lawsuit as well as his future in wrestling. Yes, making people PAY for a normal RAW promo. WOW.
- The reason that Brock has not been mentioned at all on RAW the past two weeks and Paul Heyman is AWOL is because Vince McMahon and Triple H were apparently livid that Brock appeared on the UFC PPV and subsequently had a meeting with Dana White. Lesnar has been said to be a million times worse backstage then he was during his first run with the company and that is largely due to how big of a draw he became in UFC. Lesnar is here to make money and that is all. Showing up at UFC was his way of telling WWE that he does not need them as much as they need him. It was Lesnar’s attempt to mark his territory by basically saying WWE has no choice but to play ball with him because he can always walk and leave WWE in a bind. It is a tough situation because WWE painted them self into a corner by not creating bigger stars as main event acts. It is said that The Rock can get away with power plays (although he doesn’t pull them often) because at the end of the day, Rock LOVES professional wrestling. With Lesnar it is tougher because he could care less and is only out for himself. The entire Big Show angle right now is WWE’s attempt to show that they can push Show in the role they want Lesnar in. They even went far enough to have Show say on the mic that he is “a fighter, not an entertainer” which is verbatim what Brock said in his debut promo as well as Show stating that he is “tougher than any UFC fighter” which was an obvious shot at Brock. There was also talk of having HHH beat Lesnar at Summerslam which in my mind is complete INSANITY.
- The Monday August 6th RAW from San Antonio Texas will be Shawn Michaels Appreciation Night.
- A few weeks ago following the “Over The Limit” PPV, Cody Rhodes took to Twitter and stated “Time Off” but then was at the Smackdown tapings that week and has not missed television since. Apparently this was due to Rhodes testing positive for a banned substance via a WWE Wellness test. Rhodes however produced a valid prescription for the substance from an accredited WWE approved physician and thus was not suspended.
- In regards to Randy Orton’s suspension, Mexican website Superluchas.net (the website that broke the Sin Cara to WWE signing) stated that Orton failed his wellness test for Dianabol which is an anabolic steroid. The story did raise some eyebrows mainly because if you are an athlete who wants to take an illegal performance enhancer, Dianabol will likely be the LAST CHOICE mainly because it stays in your system for up to six to eight weeks. He also tested positive for marijuana which is not a banned substance according to the WWE Wellness policy however is a $2,500 fine by WWE management. Orton apparently met with Vince McMahon, Triple H and Kevin Dunn last week in what is reported to have been a very heated conversation which some in the company described as “hostile” almost. The current plan is to have Orton sit out a little longer once his suspension is over with and possibly have him miss the Summerslam PPV. WWE is also toiling with the idea of not only announcing when a talent is suspended for a Wellness violation as they already have been doing but going forward, adding WHAT SUBSTANCE they were suspended for. There are some within the company who are lobbying to have Orton released from his contract mainly as a cost cutting measure. Orton apparently signed an extension not too long ago that lasts through 2020. At his salary, for that long with 2 strikes, you HAVE to push him in the main events but you also run the risk of him failing a third time and being fired anyway.
- The blow is temporarily softened however as far as depth goes because Rey Mysterio is due back in a few weeks as he is eligible to return to television with the June 25th RAW show.
- Orton commented via Twitter yesterday: “50 days from now. See ya then.” When asked by a fan why he was suspended, he replied: "When I'm able to tell you, I will. Until then, don't believe everything you read!" and in regards to coming back as a heel, he said: "We can only Pray"
- Where’s Drew McIntyre?
- If you haven’t noticed, Kelly Kelly has been absent from WWE television and appearances. The word going around backstage at RAW was that Kelly requested time off from the company. She has been working non-stop for WWE since 2006 and has not missed any time due to injury or other circumstances. Six years of non-stop working and she is only 25 years old meaning all of her adult life has been with WWE traveling. This is her first break from the company and no timetable has been given for her return. However….in an interesting development she has noted that she is taking appearances and doing some modeling via her Twitter account however she is using her real name of Barbie Blank (yes her name is Barbie). This has led many talents to believe that she is not coming back at all. Kelly has not been used by WWE since May 21st.
- At the Philadelphia Wizard World Comic Con, WWE Champion CM Punk revealed in a Q&A panel that a NEW WWE Title belt is going to debut soon however he noted that it isn’t much better than the current spinner title he carries and that he feels the only real difference is that it is about 20 lbs heavier than the one he has now. He also stated that he would like to design a new title belt to wear.
- Edge is now in fact in a relationship with Beth Phoenix which has to be awkward considering she was in a relationship with CM Punk before Edge. What makes it weird is that Punk was in a relationship with Edge’s longtime girlfriend Lita before dating Phoenix. Word is that Punk has once again been spending a lot of time with Lita during his off days.
- It has been confirmed that WWE did reach out to former TNA star Alex Shelly through a wrestler currently on the WWE roster who is friends with Shelly. It was said that Shelly is interested however is going to take a few weeks off before he formally meets with WWE. Shelly is also worried about being sent to FCW as he feels he should go straight to the main WWE roster.
- Once again, contrary to what happens on WWE television, Mason Ryan has still been accompanying Dolph Ziggler for matches on live events. Ryan has been playing the role of Ziggler’s bodyguard on the road yet on TV, he is a part of AW’s stable alongside The Colon’s and Rosa Mendes.
- In lighter news, former WWE Star John Bradshaw Layfield is going to attempt to climb the highest mountain peaks on all 7 continents as a way to raise money for a charity called “The Family Center” which raises money for needy kids. The project would take JBL between 2 – 3 years and cost him about $250,000 or more of his own money in order to complete it. That was taken care of however as WWE has pledged to donate $250,000 to his cause.
- The Dean Ambrose/Mick Foley angle has been back burnered for some reason as there are apparently people on the creative team that are against using Foley due to not having any faith that he can get a good match out of Ambrose and they want Ambrose to debut HOT rather than come in with a good build verbally vs. Foley and then flop when the eventual match happens.
- Richie Steamboat, son of Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat began on the road this week on Smackdown live events losing to Damien Sandow. Also on the road was Seth Rollins (formerly Tyler Black of ROH). Rollins defeated Michael McGuillicuty all weekend.
- Kayla Armstrong, daughter of WWE referee Scott Armstrong is looking to continue in the family footsteps as she is in Tampa Florida this week being looked at for a possible spot in WWE developmental. Kayla is 22 years old and is following in the footsteps of her dad Scott, uncles Brian James (Road Dogg) and Brad Armstrong and her granddad “Bullet” Bob Armstrong.
- In commenting on the potential of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross stated that Ambrose has unlimited potential and is going to be a bonafide star and that Rollins has a huge upside and expects him to be huge one day. Ambrose will excel quicker than Rollins however.
- Ross also noted that Perry Saturn has been at FCW assisting with the training of talents and that WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels made a surprise, unannounced appearance to evaluate and assist talents.
- Former WWE Star Carlito (brother of WWE’s Primo and cousin of Epico) recently noted in an interview that he had once gotten into a drunken fist fight with John Cena. He said that he is close to Cena and one day they were in a bar and Cena and him got into an argument because Cena felt like Carlito was not applying himself like he should. Cena kept saying that Carlito should be a top guy and higher on the card then he was. He said that the two had to be separated about 3 or 4 times and that they weren’t really out to kick the sh*t out of each other but more to stand their ground and get their point across. He said that Cena is strong as an ox and that Cena is different than other top guys he has come across because he isn’t out to hold anyone back but rather wants to see everyone come up and main event.
- The WWE 13 game due out in October is set to be based on the WWE “Attitude Era” with most of the current WWE roster intertwined with Attitude Era stars. Confirmed for the game from the Attitude Era are: “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, The Rock, ALL OF DX except Chyna, (Triple H & Shawn Michaels w/Mike Tyson, X-Pac, The New Age Outlaws Road Dog & “BadAss” Billy Gunn), Mankind/Mick Foley/Cactus Jack (all three as playable characters), The Undertaker, Bret “Hitman” Hart, Eddie Guerrero, Shane McMahon, Stephanie McMahon, Trish Stratus, Vader, Ken Shamrock, Big Bossman, Edge & Christian, The Road Warriors, “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith, The Godfather, Lita, and more.

IMPACT WRESTLING News and Notes
- TNA will announce the first inductee into their Hall of Fame on Sunday at Slammiversary. Again, as I said when it was announced, anyone short of Jeff and/or Jerry Jarrett is just stupid. Even worse is that Dixie Carter tweeted early this morning that WWE’s Christian will be at Slammiversary which indicates that Christian was WWE’s end of the deal for allowing Ric Flair to attend the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Sadly however, it also looks like Christian could possibly be TNA’s inductee into the HOF which is LAUGHABLE. No offense to Christian but how he would get in before Jeff or Jerry Jarrett, A.J. Styles, Ken Shamrock, Sting or even WWE star R-Truth is mind boggling.

- I admittedly enjoyed the past two episodes of Impact. Sure there are still some mind blowingly stupid things that are booked but the stupidity was absolutely turned down a notch and the wrestling was good. Apparently the live experiment isn’t off to the start that TNA hoped for as last weeks LIVE show drew a 0.89 ratings which was the lowest first run episode of Impact in YEARS. This is likely due to the time change as it was the first Impact to begin at 8:00 pm ET instead of the normal 9:00 pm timeslot.
- Did TNA really book Dixie Carter’s husband Serg to punch A.J. Styles and knock him on his ass? Sure A.J. bounced back up but come on bro, really?
- I cannot stand Hulk Hogan anymore. Is that bad?
- Sad to see that the Joe Park angle is coming to an end soon, possibly on Sunday. I fully expect it to be revealed that he is in fact Abyss and has a dual personality.
- Bully Ray is AWESOME. I hope WWE will eventually take him back and let him roam the upper mid card. He can definitely help the promotion.
- Mickie James heel turn coming? Awesome. She is great as a heel.
- Chris Masters received his TNA tryout yesterday in a dark match before Impact and received a good ovation from the crowd including a “Masterlock” Chant. He did however lose his match but is likely to be signed.
- In an interview with CNN promoting TNA, Brooke Hogan perhaps unwillingly stated that her run in the company is only “temporary”. Her exact quote was: "Secretly I always wanted to wrestle, even though I’m a total pansy. I cannot take a bump for the life of me, but I just saw the opportunity, and I was like 'why not,' you know, it’s temporary. I get to get in there and straighten a few things out, you know. I’m passionate about it, I’ve grown up in the business, and its fun."
- During a magazine interview, TNA Star Magnus confirmed that he is currently dating TNA Knockout Mickie James.
- Shannon Moore announced via Twitter that he is not coming back to TNA wrestling. He said while he has not been officially released, he has a ton of nagging injuries that need to heal as well as many outside projects to work on which include having a baby with his wife and launching her clothing line. Moore also owns two tattoo parlors (Gas Chamber Inc) in North Carolina which have made over a million dollars.
- Hulk Hogan needs to be taught some things about Twitter. Last weekend a fan tweeted: “@hulkhogan Hey Hulk, I went balls deep in Brooke, can I get a retweet?!” and Hogan in fact retweeted it. LOL.
- Quick question on the TNA “Gut Check” challenge. What exactly is the criteria for voting? The reason I am asking is because for the first one which Alex Silva got chose, Al Snow and Bruce Pritchard voted YES and Ric Flair voted no but then Silva cut a promo and Flair changed his mind. That is all well and good but when Joey Ryan got voted off in the second Gut Check, Al Snow voted YES and Bruce Pritchard voted NO. so Taz was the deciding vote. If that is in fact that case, would Silva have been voted in without it having to come to Flair’s vote since there were already 2 YESSES?
- For the record, I have come to find out that the reason Alex Silva has not been used since winning the challenge was because his working Visa has expired and he had to travel back to Canada to get it sorted out.
- Chris Sabin has expressed interest in leaving TNA when his contract expires in August. He plans on joining former teammate Alex Shelly in whatever promotion Shelly ends up in.

MMA News and Notes
- In major UFC news, THQ has SOLD the rights to the UFC video game to game maker Electronic Arts. This is interesting because it wasn’t that many years ago when UFC President Dana White noted that EA was a ‘goofball” company. This was due to EA making their own video game using Strikeforce and non-UFC stars. The EA game was actually the better game as far as actual game play goes but was unsuccessful due to the lack of star power in the game itself. The main names included were Randy Couture and Fedor Emelianenko. Everyone else included at the time wasn’t major names. So if EA decides to use the game engine used for their original game with the current UFC/Strikeforce/Pride roster then this could be the best MMA game ever.
- B.J. Penn has come out of his self imposed retirement and accepted a fight vs. Rory McDonald. It is likely to take place in September which would put it at UFC 152 from Toronto Canada.
- LET THE BODIES HIT THE FLOOR. See if you can keep up with me. Brian Stann was set to main event the UFC on Fox 4 show on August 4th vs. Hector Lombard. Stann is now injured and has been forced to pull out due to a shoulder injury. Jon Fitch tore his ACL and will miss his July 11th fight vs. Aaron Simpson. Michael Bisping injured his knee and is out of his July 21st fight vs. Tim Boetsch. Lombard has been pulled from the FOX 4 show and moved to the July 21st show facing Boetsch. Thiago Alves injured himself and is off the August 4th show. Thiago Silva is off of the July 21st show vs. Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Rua has been moved to the August 4th show as the new main event vs. Brandon Vera.
- Shane Carwin has made it known that he will be prepared to fight in the early fall sometime. Carwin has been out of action for almost a year as he recovered from back surgery.
- Congrats to Michael Chiesa for winning season 15 of The Ultimate Fighter last Friday.
- With Tito Ortiz set to battle Forrest Griffin at UFC 146 in July in their rubber match, I just wanted to note that they first fought back at UFC 59. No that is NOT a typo. They fought almost 100 UFC events ago. WOW.
- It was come out that Frank Mir used Testosterone Replacement Therapy for his last fight vs. Junior Dos Santos. This was a surprise because most of the people who have been approved for TRT have been men who started wresting at a young age and thus had always had to cut weight during their career. Many doctors believe that there is a correlation between extreme weight cutting and low levels of testosterone. This situation is weird because Nevada State Athletic Commission head Keith Kizer has stated on numerous occasions that he will not grant TRT to anyone who has low level of testosterone due to steroid use. Now while I am not throwing out accusations, when training for his second fight vs. Brock Lesnar, Mir gained 40 points in a fairly rapid period of time as well as did heavy power lifting in order to combat Lesnar’s strengths. Mir had never previously failed a drug test in his career. In order to gain 40 pounds and train at power lifting, low levels of testosterone would be out of the question. So how was he able to do so and how did he get a testosterone problem?

of the week PART 4: I am a born Yankee fan. That has been established. So by definition, I hate the Boston Red Sox. That being said, this has got to be one of the douchiest things EVER DONE by a High School. America continues down the path to being full blown p*ssies.

ACTUAL GAMEPLAY
.
- It was announced last week that the sequel to “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” will be released on May 23, 2014 and will be titled “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”. So the Apes are just starting to take over the world.
- X-Men: First Class Part 2 is due out on July 18, 2014. Shouldn’t they just call it X-Men : Second Class?
-
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

- When I am wrong, I admit that I am wrong. I saw 21 Jump Street (the movie I said looked abysmal when I saw the previews for it last year) and it was quite funny. I laughed several times during the movie. The plot was pretty crappy but almost all of the jokes and banter between Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were funny to very funny. I recommend it.
