Matt Dawgs Presents: Thank Goodness It’s Friday!!!!!

Hello all. Welcome back and Happy Friday. Took a much needed week off in order to get some personal stuff done but now I am back and believe me when I say, TONS of news going on out there. Lets just get right to it. In my previous column on this site titled “Matt Dawgs’ Random Thoughts, Opinions, Questions and Observations”, I wrote exactly what the title says I wrote. While this column will definitely hit you with that from time to time, I am also going just basically switch up the formula a bit with my random thoughts from each wrestling PROMOTION this week. Of course I will also throw in some thoughts on real world news, sports, entertainment and gossip. Please feel free to provide any thoughts or feedback on the new format. Enjoy.

1) WWE News and Notes

•    After a pretty good episode with a celebrity guest host (Shaq), WWE followed up with actor Jeremy Piven who happens to play one of my favorite television characters EVER, Ari Gold on Entourage. Suffice to say, it was a complete and utter failure. The show sucked. Piven could have cared less about being there other than to promote his new movie “The Goods, Live Hard, Sell Hard. He brought Dr. Ken from the hit movie “The Hangover” (which is the funniest movie I’ve seen in a long, long time) and unfortunately Dr. Ken sucked too. You can’t win them all.
•    At least we have a Sgt. Slaughter next week who while lacking star power, is at least interested in wrestling and will do his best to make the show interesting and entertaining.
•    Anyone else going to order THE SUMMERFEST??
•    Brian Kendrick was released for smoking pot. Yes, that is the legit reason. While the Wellness policy only gives a $1,000 fine for marijuana smoking, Kendrick has failed several tests (and even lost pushes because of it) and was told that management wants him to stop failing tests. He kept failing and so they let him go as a n example to those higher up who keep smoking and just eating the fines. He was told however that he was let go due to the economy. Seriously told that. WTF?
•    Lillian Garcia’s final date is most likely the RAW following Summerfest on August 24th from Las Vegas. No word on whether or not they found a new ring announcer once she is gone.
•    Speaking of RAW in Vegas, the rumor circulating was that they planned on having the Godfather reprise his role as the guest GM/Host for that day.
•    Mayrese had surgery on her injured kneecap and will be out for about 3 months which is a positive as she was originally expected back longer.
•    Matt Hardy is due back in a few weeks. Possibly right after Summerfest.
•    CM Punk continues to be completely AWESOME as a heel. Sadly, none of you readers commented on the heel turn. What did you think of it?
•    I still can’t grasp the concept of management continuing to bury Miz. He has been great for the past few months, is a solid heel and has improved by light-years since he debuted. He works hard, does tons and tons of publicity for the company and yet John Cena squashes him every week. What is even more amazing is that management has the balls to wonder why the younger talent can’t seem to get over. So he is basically unbooked from Summerslam, no longer on RAW and can’t ever wrestle at the Staples Center again. WHAT THE F*CK!!! Who thought that was a good way to book him?
•    Then again, this is the same company who booked an upset last week with Evan Bourne beating Jack Swagger in a “Beat the Clock” match and instead of following up or continuing to push Bourne, they had Swagger beat him cleanly and easily this week. Way to follow up. What is even better, as the above said, in two weeks when they wonder why the fans don’t take Bourne seriously, they will blame it on Bourne not connecting with the fans instead of the senseless booking.
•    Which happens to lead me to my next point. I know how it was allowed but no one in their right mind could have thought that HHH no selling his loss to Legacy and in fact making light of it was good for Legacy in the end. His sarcastic “Ow, Ow” after the match was like painting a huge NEON sign on them telling the fans, “Hey, don’t take these losers seriously cause I sure don’t.”
•    Jeff Hardy may be sticking around until September. For someone who wants to leave, he is sure bending over backwards to accommodate the company.
•    FYI…Shawn Michaels does not watch RAW. He said so himself when HHH called him after his match on Monday. THAT IS A CERTIFIABLY PERFECT WAY TO BURY YOUR OWN PRODUCT.
•    PS – 83% of fans think that Shaq can beat the Big Show. Another solid way to put over your own talent. It’s like creative was kidnapped by TNA’s creative team and booked RAW for the day. I don’t think I have ever seen such a counter productive show in my entire life. From Piven and Dr. Ken not wanting to be there, to Piven botching the names of the wrestlers and not knowing the name of the NUMBER 2 SHOW OF THE YEAR, to the total burial of Miz, Bourne, Big Show, Legacy, Primo, Chavo and the RAW brand, I can’t think of WWE ever being worse.
•    I haven’t seen much FCW but even though I have heard good things, Abraham Washington SUCKS. He seems like he is struggling to connect with the crowd even though I hear he is fantastic on the mic. My take is that he is not ready for prime time yet and is nervous to be performing in front of such big crowds.
•    Nick “Eugene” Dinsmore is back and using the Eugene gimmick. Hopefully whatever personal problems plagued him during his last run are gone. Contrary to what his gimmick shows, the man can work inside a ring.
•    Tony Atlas has quietly disappeared. I don’t think he has been officially released yet but I expect him to be now that Henry was moved to RAW and is now a babyface.

2) TENTATIVE Summerfest Line Up

•    WWE TITLE: Randy Orton © vs. John Cena
•    WORLD TITLE: Jeff Hardy © vs. CM Punk in a TLC match
•    UNIFIED TAG TITLES: Chris Jericho & The Big Show © vs. Cryme Tyme
•    US TITLE: Rey Mysterio © vs. Dolph Ziggler
•    HHH and Shawn Michaels vs. Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase

3) TNA News and Notes

•    TNA is undergoing a massive overhaul, as creative team members Dutch Mantel and Savio Vega were both let go by Dixie Carter. Both men were political allies of Jeff Jarrett and hired by him. With them being let go, it is a sure sign that Jarrett is done with TNA and wrestling in general for that matter. Sad way to end your career (over someone’s ex-wife) but it is what it is. He’d rather be with her than in TNA. So be it.
•    Sting may be retiring at Bound For Glory in October. If he does manage to leave TNA, I still completely expect WWE to throw an offer at him, EVEN at the age of 50. WWE can make some money off of one match with him. Specifically against someone like Taker or Shawn.
•    Consistent rumors of Kurt Angle appearing on Dancing with the Stars in the fall. The new lineup is going to be announced in mid August. I admit, I will watch the show if he is on it.
•    That is all I can bare to report on TNA this week because I didn’t watch the show. After my brain hurting like it was during RAW, I decided it would be best for my health to DVR this show and watch it at a later date

4) Ring of Honor News and Notes

•    Brent Albright is undergoing surgery to remove a blood clot in his leg. Hopefully he will be all right soon. Sadly a blood clot in the leg is what took Chris Candidio away from us. Thankfully Albright caught it quickly and is having it removed before it detached from his leg and moved to a vital organ.
•    I saw my first episode of ROH on HD Net. While the wrestling is still as good as it was when I was a huge ROH fan, most of the roster is still missing that something. Nigel McGuiness and Austin Aries came off looking like big stars but that was pretty much the gist of it. No one else had that swagger to them that made them seem important.
•    I’ve heard tons of good things about him but…. Eddie Kingston didn’t seem that special to me. His work leaves a lot to be desired and his post match promo was…blah. Not for nothing, “Strong Style” is really a style of wrestling. Hitting someone really hard is not “Strong Style”. There is a difference. Maybe is was an off night for him. I don’t know but I am definitely not impressed.
•    Brian Kendrick is already working an independent date for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla against former friend/foe Brian Danielson.
•    He has also signed a contract to work for the Dragon Gate promotion run by former ROH head honcho Gabe Sapolsky.

5) MMA News and Notes

•    Fedor Emelianenko, after turning down a 5 million per fight contract, has signed a three-fight deal with Strikeforce paying him significantly less. WTF? I smell coward.
•    Seriously though, I don’t honestly think he is a coward. I do think he has a piss poor management team who is out for making themselves money at the expense of Fedor. It’s a shame because they are essentially rolling the dice with his career. He has a 30-1 record in MMA with his only loss coming in 2001 as a stoppage due to blood loss from an illegal elbow and while that fight was stopped, he was easily winning. If he wins his 3 fights, his aura and mystique will continue to grow. That means, barring a Brock Lesnar loss, a fight next year between the two would be even bigger than it means now. That means more money for everyone. But if he loses, it is all over for him. He isn’t going to get that contract offer from Dana White again. That is, if Dana even wants him after a loss. So it’s basically a crapshoot.

•     UFC 101 on August 8 from Philadelphia PA is as follows:
•    Lightweight Championship bout: B.J. Penn © vs. Kenny Florian
•    Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin
•    Amir Sadollah vs. Johny Hendricks
•    Kendall Grove vs. Ricardo Almeida
•    Josh Neer vs. Kurt Pellegrino

•     UFC 102 is on August 29 and the line up is as follows:
•    Randy Couture vs. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
•    Keith Jardine vs. Thiago Silva
•    Chris Leben vs. Jake Rosholt
•    Demian Maia vs. Nate Marquardt
•    Matt Hamill vs. Brandon Vera.

6) Random Thoughts, Links, Pics, ETC.

•    Random PIC of the week
•    I heard through the grapevine that a certain GLORIOUS star is returning to the Club next week.  Just sign up for CLUB WWI today because James Guttman has already proven how awesome he is with his interviews and exclusives. JOIN CLUBWWI.COM.
•    The Hangover is hilarious. If you haven’t seen it yet, please do. You will laugh your ass off.
•    For those of you who think I post too many adult links or links catered just to men, here is a TREAT.
•    A huge hats off and congratulations to new Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor who became the first Hispanic (Puerto Rican) to become a Supreme Court Judge. She is from the Bronx and went to Cardinal Spellman High School where I have a lot of friends who attended there and almost attended there myself.
•    Just check it out for yourself. Not even going to try to explain this blog. Just do yourself a favor and don’t click the link if you aren’t over 18 years of age and definitely do not click it if you are reading this column at work. CLICK.
•    Keep shining Christina. Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to wear a bra. If you hate bras then you hate bras!!
•    Let’s go Yankees!!!! It’s clobbering time.
•    Drunk college girls RULE.
•    For you soap opera fans, All My Children is going to be undergoing some radical changes soon as they are moving production from NY to Los Angeles. Several major cast members who have made their lives in New York will have to relocate to California and that may mean that some of them choose to leave the show which will definitely affect the cast.
•    Shelly Martinez and Jewel DeNile in a movie together. Remember it? The “ADULT” film she made?
•    Finally a big shout out to my friend and a very good DJ, DJ UCH. Check out his site and show some support by visiting him at DJUCH.com

Ok kiddies, classes are over for now. See you soon!!!!!!!!!

Feel free to discuss whatever you’d like in the “Anger Management” section of the message board or whichever section you see fit.

World Wrestling Insanity writer Matt Dawgs is the bread and butter of the World Wrestling Insanity family. His future is bright and once James Guttman comes into a large sum of money, you can expect Matt will be getting tons of it thrown at him, at least half of it. Matt used to moonlight as a professional wrestler/manager in the NY/NJ Indy scene. He is legit afraid of getting on Homicide’s bad side but thinks he is a cool dude in general. He also is a funny guy. If you have any questions, corrections, feedback, comments and ideas, he can be reached at Matt@worldwrestlinginsanity.com. If the feedback is negative, you can e-mail James at insanity@worldwrestlinginsanity.com.

P.S. – In case you didn’t know, James Guttman has a new WRESTLING BOOK out titled “Shoot First, Ask Questions Later”. It is a damn fun read so I suggest you run out and get it today. If you already have your copy, read it. If you already read your copy, read it again. It is funny; like me.

Also, don’t forget to check out CLUB WWI. It can be found by clicking the banner at the top of this page. Check out all the new audio updates and features found there. Some good stuff including all of James Guttman’s past Radio Free Insanity broadcasts as well as all new, uncut interviews with some of wrestling past and present names. Good stuff people.
