RDLee's ECW Report - Finally a FRESH main event as Goldust takes on Sheamus in a No DQ, No Count Out match

By RDLee Sep 1, 2009 - 11:02 PM

Welcome to the ECW report. Be sure to check back tommorrow as I will have new column up on the site regarding all the info you need for Smackdown v.s. Raw 2010 coming out later this year for all video game platforms. Also follow me on Twitter @RDLee and Club WWI @ClubWWI if you want to make a new friend or two. Enjoy tonights recap!

Shelton Benjamin v.s. Zack Ryder

A nice 5 minute match showcasing Benjamin's amazing moveset and ending with Benjamin hitting the Pay Dirt for the clean win. Ryder continues to impress me with his athletic talents and bump taking, he should do well for a while until people grow tired of his character.

Winner: Shelton Benjamin

Abraham Washington Show - WWE Hall of Famer Tony Atlas introduced Washington to his show and laughed at all his lame jokes playing the Kevin Eubanks role. Abe got major crowd heat... not the good kind either... the kind that people would rather take a big crap instead of watching him babble on. He brings out Gregory Helms as his guest. Helms claims he is NOT the Hurricane as Atlas horse laughes on... Paul Birchill and Katie Lea come out next and claim that they will beat him until he admits he is the Hurricane. Suddenly on the titantron The Hurricane appears and challenges Paul to a match for next weeks ECW as the show wraps up with Tony Atlas laughing his ass off for some reason...

Ezekial Jackson and Vladimir Kozlov v.s. 2 Random Jobbers

I would like to lie and say that the 2 jobbers actually dominated the match and got the easy win over Kozlov and Jackson when they hit their finishing move... The "Only A Dream"... but that only happened when they were backstage playing Smackdown v.s. Raw 2010 because this one was the opposite of that in reality as Kozlov and Jackson DECIMATED them and picked up the EASY win after Kozlov hit the Iron Curtain. Regal jumped in the ring and tied up a jobber with his Regal Stretch move. Christian interupted with Tommy Dreamer and they brought kendo sticks with them to run off Regal's Royal Roundtable after smacking them around first.

Winners: Kozlov and Jackson

HBK/Undertaker WM25 video highlight, I thought this was supposed to be the entire match in full and was supposed to be in the main event slot... I am glad they made the right choice and shortened it and put it on earlier.

Next week on ECW the main event will be Dreamer/Christian v.s. Kozlov/Jackson. Should be a great match.

Sheamus v.s. Goldust - No DQ and No Count Out

This marks the first time that Sheamus has been in a main event, and the first time in YEARS that Goldust has been used correctly as a role player to help get the young talent over at a top level. These two men have been fueding for almost a month and each hold victories against each other. This is possibly the blow off match to determine who the better man is. They brawled all over the outside of the ring. Alot of hard hitting action back and forth from both men. Goldust proved that he is still a top wrestler even at this stage of his career with a breath taking performance and Sheamus proved that he could handle the pressure of working with a big time star. Sheamus picked up the win after a Yakuza kick and his finisher the Irish Curse (backbreaker over the knee) Matt Striker said it best when he said "With this win, Sheamus HAS ARRIVED!" and I agree. A great main event match with a hard work effort. I loved it.

Winner: Sheamus
