ECW Real Time Report: Match By Match Coverage

By "Realtime" Mike Rickard II
Jul 1, 2008 - 7:47 PM

...

There's a new sheriff in town as Mark Henry now holds the ECW World Title.  How long can "The World's Strongest Man" stay at the top of the mountain?  You can bet that everyone in ECW (including newcomers Matt Hardy and Finlay) will be looking to get their shot at the championship gold.  Join me tonight as I recap all the action!

VIDEO:  Highlights of Mark Henry's championship victory at Night of Champions .

ECW is coming to you from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

"The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry walks to the ring sporting a big grin as well as his newly won ECW championship.

Henry tells the fans that Kane was going to take the title to RAW but he won it at Night of Champions and brought it back to the ECW.  Kane may be a monster but he's not the world's strongest man. Big Show may be a giant but he's not the world's strongest man.  Mark Henry is the savior of ECW.  Just then, Tommy Dreamer's music plays and he walks to the ring, joined by his faithful sidekick, Colin Delaney.

Henry tells Dreamer he doesn't like to be interrupted, even if Dreamer is out there to congratulate him.  Dreamer tells Henry he's out there to challenge Henry, not to congratulate him.  Henry tells Dreamer to take his little friend and leave as it's 2008, not 1998.  Dreamer tells Henry Delaney may be a physical mismatch next to Henry but he's the epitome of ECW.  Dreamer points out Tazz and reminds Henry that Tazz broke his neck to hold the ECW title.  Henry tells Dreamer he knows what the legacy of ECW is about but that Dreamer has to earn a title shot.  Henry says "You've earned it".  A happy Dreamer thanks the champ but Henry points out that he gave Delaneynot him  the non-title shot.  Henry tells Delaney he has the heart and soul of ECW but tonight, he's going to get that heart and soul ripped out.  Tonight, if Delaney beats Henry, Dreamer gets a title shot!

BACKSTAGE:  Matt Hardy joins Finlay and Hornswaggle, preparing for a six man match tonight.

1.  Matt Hardy, Finlay, & Hornswaggle vs. Chavo Guerrero (w.  Bam Nely), John Morrison, & the Miz:  Miz applies an armbar to Matt Hardy.  Hardy reverses it and takes Miz down to the mat until Miz reaches the ropes, forcing a break.  Hardy applies a headlock but Miz throws him into the ropes only to get shoulderblocked not once but twice.  Hip toss by Matt.  Miz tries to hiptoss Hardy but Matt holds on to Miz' arm.  Outwrestled, Miz tries some fisticuffs but Matt gets the upper hand, punching away at Miz.  Clothesline to Miz followed by a bulldog.  Tag to Finlay.  Finlay hits a clothesline but somehow, Miz manages to force Finlay in his corner.  Tag to Morrison but Finlay battles his way out of the corner.  Finlay hits a reverse atomic drop on Morrison then Irish whips him (no pun intended) into the corner.  Morrison's woes continue but he's still able to reach his corner and tag in Chavo.  Chavo catches the Belfast Brawler with a kneelift then throws him out of the ring.  Chavo tries a baseball slide but Finlay counters.  Finlay throws Hornswaggle off of the mat onto Miz and Morrison.  Hornwaggle hits a double clothesline on the WWE tag team champions, knocking them down.

After the commercial break, Matt Hardy is seen battling against Chavo Guerrero.  Chavo tags in Morrison who beats down Hardy.  Morrison applies a front facelock but Hardy escapes with a jawbreaker.  Morrison quickly tags in Miz who blocks Hardy from making the tag.  Miz goes for a front facelock, trying to get Hardy to submit.  He'd better try a different hold though.  Series of punches by Hardy followed by a Sunset Flip.  Miz kicks out and clotheslines Hardy, covering Matt for a two count.  Tag to Morrison who stomps Hardy in the gut.  The Shaman of Sexy measures his opponent before applying another stomp.   Morrison goes back to the front facelock, wearing Hardy down some more.  Outside, Chavo's hired gun Bam Nely watches the action.  Back in the ring, Morrison punches Hardy.  Hardy is whipped into the corner.  Morrison charges Hardy but Hardy raises his boot.  Unfortunately, Morrison grabs the leg.  However Hardy counters and hits the Side Effect.  Morrison tags in Guerrero.  Hardy tags in Finlay who charges in, cleaning house.  Finlay goes after Chavo, hitting the Celtic Cross and covering him until Morrison  makes the save.  Things break down as all six men are in the ring.  Hardy hits the Side Effect on Chavo.  Chavo's troubles add up quickly as Hornswaggle hits the Tadpole Splash.  When Nely tries to interfere, Finlay blasts him with the shillelagh.  Celtic Cross on Chavo and Finlay covers him for the pin.

WINNERS:  Matt Hardy, Finlay, and Hornswaggle (Finlay pins Chavo).

After the match, Hardy, Finlay, and Hornswaggle celebrate.

VIDEO:  Hype video for Night of Champions, the replay.

VIDEO:  The Raw Rebound.  Highlights of the events leading to CM Punk cashing in his Money in the Bank title match and defeating Edge for the World championship.  Not only did Punk win the championship but he successfully defended the belt against an oveconfident JBL.

BACKSTAGE:  Tommy Dreamer tells Colin Delaney he shouldn't have stuck his neck out for him.  Delaney tells him after all he's done for him, he owes it to Dreamer to try and win an ECW title shot for him.

BACKSTAGE:  Newcomer Atlas Ortiz thanks ECW General Manager Teddy Long for his opportunity.  Armando Estrada crashes in and interrupts things.  Long tells Estrada he'd better watch his step as his contract status is still under review.  Long tells Estrada Arteese is part of his new Superstar Initiative, a plan to bring in new wrestlers to ECW.  Estrada asks what Atlas has that he doesn't.  Long tells them he is about to find out as he's facing him next.

2. Armando Estrada vs.  Atlas Ortiz: Tazz talks about Ortiz' extensive background in football.  Ortiz takes Estrada down with a leg takedown.  Estrada escapes and puts Ortiz in a hammerlock.  Nice display of mat wrestling as both men apply holds and counterholds.  Ortiz gains the upper hand and applies a side headlock, keeping Estrada down on the mat.  Estrada gets to his feet and punches his way out.  However Ortiz shoulderblocks Estrada then charges him in the corner with another shoulderblock.  Ortiz goes to the well once too often and charges Armando, only there's no one home.  Estrada goes to work, wearing him down with punches and forearms.  Kneelift on Ortiz followed by a snapmare.  An angry Estrada kicks Ortiz then slams his arm into the mat.  Estrada screams "How ya like me now" to the fans as he continues the  offense on Ortiz.  Another snapmare whips Ortiz down to the mat.  Estrada applies a hammerlock but Ortiz powers his way up until Estrada knocks him down by pulling the rookie's hair.  Estrada applies the hammerlock again.  Good move, especially against a big guy like Ortiz.   Take out his upper body and his strength advantage is reduced. Estrada applies an arm bar until Ortiz escapes, whipping Estrada around the ring with arm drags and a nice back body drop.  Big dropkick by Ortiz floors Estrada and Ortiz covers him for a two count.  Estrada doesn't let up and charges at Ortiz only to get caught with a backslide.  1-2-3.

WINNER:  Atlas Ortiz

VIDEO:  Hype video for the new Rock DVD.

3.  Mark Henry (ECW World Champion) vs.  Colin Delaney w. Tommy Dreamer (Non-title match): Mike Adamle reminds the fans that this is a non-title match.  However if Delaney wins, his friend Tommy Dreamer gets an ECW title shot.  Henry smiles as he eyes his prey.  Henry charges Delaney but Delaney uses his spped to elude him.  Henry backs Delaney into a corner and swings at him but Delaney ducks out.  Delaney tries some punches on Henry but they have no effect.  Henry grabs Delaney and whips him down to the mat.  Henry toys with Delaney, grabbing his arm and slamming him down.  Henry punches Delaney as Dreamer watches from outside.  Henry misses an elbow drop and Colin goes to work, bouncing off of the ropes, hitting Henry with punches.  However Henry catches Delaney and punches away at him.  Henry headbutts Delaney down to the mat followed by a devastating bodyslam.  World's Strongest Slam and it's all over for Delaney.

WINNER:  Mark Henry (by pinfall).

After the match, Dreamer slides into the ring to check on his fallen friend.  Henry smiles as he leaves the ring.
