TNAaron Wood's Impact: Team 3D vs. A Guy On Double Duty & His Kid's Uncle
By TNAaron Wood
Mar 20, 2008 - 11:17 PM

LAST WEEK ON IMPACT: Scott Steiner managed to be more insightful than the announcers, Scott Steiner took Petey away to "have" him and Scott Steiner didn't have much else to do with the show...

THIS WEEK…
Well, they did AWAY ENTIRELY with the ineffective recap this week, flashing up the episode title. Probably for the best. We cut right to JB backstage as he pimps out some of the night's action form outside Cornette's office. Christian steps out, smiles and sods off. Cornette appears and says that Rhino would be facing Tomko.

Can't do the time...don't do the crime...
We then wasted little time in taking it to the opening segment with Booker T making his way out to the ring. He was as happy as a pig in it's own filth. In the ring, there was a nice table set up with various bits and bobs set up on it. There was food and champagne. He said he wanted to bring someone out, and hell, we knew who it was. His "queen", Sharmell. The other Dog Faced Gremlin made her way out, and we saw Sharmell going postal with a leather strap. She was even wielding the strap as she came out. Booker officially welcomed her back, and for some reason, the crowd chanted much the same. Booker promised never to put her in harm's way again. What's the over/under on that one, you think? 10 minutes?

Anyway, they hugged before Robert Roode's music played as he came out with Peyton Banks. He stood on the stage as Booker beckoned him to the ring. Roode said he didn't have to worry. Sharmell wasn't getting in harm's way...tonight. Cornette suddenly appeared. He told Roode & "Piggy Banks" to shut up while he addressed something. JC had a problem, as when he took the job with TNA, he promised to try and give everyone a level playing field. However, at Destination X, someone who wasn't supposed to be there came out and whipped everyone. And aside form the whippings of Roode & Miss. Piggy, he didn't like it. So he wanted things done once and for all, so at Lockdown, it would be Robert Roode & Peyton Banks vs. Booker & Sharmell. Booker got pissed and knocked over the table while Roode cackled. Cornette got annoyed his lovely display, so Jim made a match for Booker to face AJ Styles later.

They sent it to the back with Crystal & AJ to seemingly find out who his guest was. AJ was annoyed that suddenly he found himself in a match while he had a guest. Crystal asked who the guest was. AJ was all "Like you don't know", when Team 3D walked in. They said AJ was part of their family, confirming that Tomko asked them to be on his team at Lethal Lockdown. Ray said the people wanted to see 3D take on the champs, but they wouldn't get that. They'd be teaming up and be a well oiled machine in the cage to destroy Christian Cage & Kevin Nash. Ray told AJ to get ready for his match and 3D would be running in watching...

After the break, Tenay talked about Super Eric before sending it to Borash who was with Kaz & Young. Kaz said he had the alter ego thing down. Eric said he knew Super Eric was in the building, as if he wasn't Super Eric. Kaz looked confused and asked if he was ready for their match. Eric said he'd be fine as long was Black Reign and Killer Spelt Backwards didn't show up.

Scott Steiner & Petey Williams def. Eric Young & Kaz in a "Well, you can't have Young look "super" against anyone muscular, can you???" match
Petey Williams and Scott Steiner came out first. We saw a clip of Steiner trying to DROWN Williams as part of his "initiation". And whatever this "initiation" bullcrap is about doesn't seem to have done a thing, because Petey will still the same, albeit allowed to pose just like Steiner. Kaz came out next followed by Eric, who was back to crapping his bright yellow pants at his pyro. West spelt the obvious, noting that Eric didn't think Super Eric was him. Kaz & Petey started off. Kaz grabbed Williams's arm, before hitting an arm drag and rolled in Petey up for a quick 2 count. Eric was tagged in, and he continued the arm work.

Williams forced Young into the corner, before whipping him across. Eric came back and hit a powerslam for a 2 count. Williams went across and tagged in Steiner at his request. Steiner clubbed away at Eric, before laying in a couple of chops. Kaz got the blind tag, but Steiner looked to remain in control. Kaz kicked at Steiner’s legs, but Steiner cut off a springboard move and hit a suplex to regain control. He hit the elbow drop & push ups.

Steiner tagged in Petey, whop rammed Petey's head into the corner before hitting the double-knee chest shot. Petey then locked in an Octopus variation, before rolling Kaz up for 2. Both sides made tags and Eric went to work on both opponents, hitting a DVD on Petey for a 2 count. Kaz came in too, and got rid of Steiner. Petey set Kaz for the Destroyer, but Kaz countered it with a reverse piledriver. Eric went up top, but Black Reign and Killer Spelt Backwards distracted him and that allowed Steiner to hit a suplex off the top rope for the three count.

----------
6/10 - It was OK. It continued the Williams initiation and continued the "Eric's scared of monsters" thing, but that was about it.
----------

Steiner called Petey over, seemingly pissed with Williams. Steiner cuffed and hooded Williams again.

Tenay FINALLY mentioned the live show next week...as part of a website plug... You know, apparently, it's TNA's choice not to hype the crap out of their live show. Tools.

We came back to a video with Tenay, Christian Cage & Rhino. Tenay asked Rhino to come to the interview, and Tenay THREATENED Cage if this was a set up to embarrass Rhino. Cage said the last few months have allowed him to reflect about who he's screwed over. And the thing is, it didn't bother him. He said he sent Rhino's daughter a birthday card every year, so while they were distant, he still considered him a friend. He knew he should have helped during the drinking relapse. HE asked Rhino again to be part of Team Cage. Rhino asked if he looked like a fool. He said that his daughter was watching TV and what she saw was Cage bloodying her daddy. And the ex-wife saw this on screen, she turned it off, and had to tell his daughter that Uncle Christian was "just playing" with Daddy. Rhino had another Christian. How was he going to fix thing with his daughter Kyra. Man, is EVERYONE'S daughter called Kyra? Angle's daughter is that as well!

Tomko def. Rhino in a "Wow, Kevin Nash really sold that attack last week, huh?" match
Tomko made his way out first, as Tenay talked about the deadline to set teams for Lethal Lockdown. Rhino ran down next. Tomko trash talked when the bell rang, before they got into a slugfest, which Rhino won quick, laying shots in the corner. Tomko reversed a hard whip across the ring. Rhino fought back, but ran into a Big Boot for a 2 count. Tomko put on a chinlock, but Rhino quickly fought out of it. Rhino clotheslined Tomko out as we took a break.

Notable "live show next week" mentions thus far...ONE Also, while I'm pointing out stuff that TNA should be mentioning, wasn't Rhino in a freaking SCAFFOLD match 2 weeks ago??? Not one word has been said since it happened. How is James Storm? Will he wrestle again?

We came back to the show with Tomko back in control, but Rhino came off the ropes with a clothesline and then a shoulder block in the corner and a belly to belly. Rhino set for the Gore, but AJ Styles clipped him. Tomko hit a clothesline for the win. 30 seconds of match after the break. If that. The crowd pointed to under the ring, and Earl was intently listening. He pulled up the apron to find AJ. Earl got back in the ring and just as he motioned to reverse the decision, AJ & Tomko started beating on Rhino.

----------
4/10 - next to nothing of the match was shown. And WHAT IN THE HELL was the stuff with Earl listening to the crowd in detecting AJ. Wasn't it Cornette who said that he couldn't go against hundreds of years of wrestling tradition, and yet there's Earl freely willing to listen to a bunch of yahoos and go again" You can't call what you can't see"...
----------

Christian Cage ran in to even the odds. Cage & Rhino cleared the ring. Cage extended a hand and Rhino accepted it. However, as they taunted AJ & Tomko, Team 3D ran in form behind, making it 4 on 2. That was until Kevin Nash, showing ABSOLUTELY ZERO ill effects form last week's savage attack to clear the ring.

Jim Cornette came out and made Team 3D vs. Cage & Rhino later tonight.

We came back to a video of So Cal Val & Jay Lethal's date. They were at a restaurant. He told Val to order anything, but then realised how large the prices were. Lethal ordered water, as did Val. Jay asked about a kids menu, but that was declined. He asked how their date was going. She said it was fine. He had something to ask her, but then SONJAY DUTT served their water!!! And guess what, HE WORKED THERE!!! Lethal wanted to see if Dutt could hook them up with a discount, but Sonjay just flirted with Val.

Sonjay Dutt def. Homicide in a "Wow, LAX are truly screwed, huh?" Xscape Qualifying match
Dutt made his way out first, followed by the whole of LAX. They locked up, but Sonjay scored a takedown, before seeking Val's approval. Homicide took over, hitting a back elbow, followed by a T-Bone suplex with bridge for a 2 count. Cide scored another 2 count, but had a corner charge blocked. Dutt went for a springboard move, but seemed to have slipped off the rope. Val looked concerned. Dutt begged not to end the match. Dutt went to move but then over-acted being unable to run. The ref went to call for the bell again, but Sonjay grabbed Homicide in a roll up and scoring the three count. Dutt and Val laughed about it while LAX looked PISSED. Dutt gave them hugs, but LAX began to beat on Dutt, with the colourfully ponchoed Hernandez giving Dutt a HUGE Border Toss.

----------
4.5/10 - They just had a pretty cool match started, before doing that bulls*** ending. It built up Sonjay's heelishness, I suppose, but they shouldn't have made Homicide look like a complete fool in doing so. He's one half of the No. 1 Contenders to the tag belts. And what are LAX going to do at the PPV now? They can't face AJ & Tomko and Homicide's not in the Xscape match.
----------

We went backstage where Crystal was with the T family. Booker was still pissed as Crystal mentioned the match Cornette had made. Booker said he promised to not put her in harm's way again, and then Cornette shot that all to hell. He told Roode that if he thought of hurting Sharmell, he'd end him. He then told AJ that tonight would be business, telling Styles to bring his A-Game.

After the break, it was "Rough Cut" time. BG said "The James Gang" thing was forced and that things had changed while he and Kip ended up doing the Outlaws gimmick, while not doing it at the same time. Kip said that he tried to get BG to hit the gym, but he said he had more important things with his kids and other things. He said he thought they had matured, and that their relationship was better, but was fooled by this. Kip said he was mad at having to "carry" BG.

The hoarse-West pimped some shows before they recapped the end of the Rhino/Tomko match and then the making of the AJ/Booker match. Pretty clever to plug the rest of the show at the top of the hour, especially with clips of what happened to set it up...

Booker T def. AJ Styles in a "Well, Karen has certainly traded down in "being with a guy who can win" terms, huh?" match
AJ Styles came out first, putting on his crown as we saw the seat reserved for AJ's guest. And then the biggest anvil ever was dropped when he introduced Karen Angle. And she finally had some music of her own. She looked happy as AJ led her to her seat. Booker then made his way out with Sharmell. Surely, if Booker didn't want Sharmell in harm's way, he wouldn't bring her out, where things can happen?

Booker started hot on AJ, laying in shots in the corner, before hitting a scoop slam. Booker laid in chops, knocking Styles down. Booker hit some knees, before whipping him across, hitting a forearm. We kept looking at Karen's reactions. However, AJ turned things around with a whip, although Booker avoided a corner charge, hitting a superkick for a 2 count. However, Roode then appeared at the top of the ramp. Despite being distracted by this, Booker ducked an AJ shot, although he didn't avoid a kick to the head that scored a 2 count before we took a break.

Notable "live show next week" mentions thus far...ONE

We came back with Booker on the outside and AJ slingshotting out with a body block. We saw that Roode was bumped from the arena during the break. AJ hit the Pele kick for a 2 count, as we kept going back to Karen's reactions. Booker hit a back kick, before hitting a suplex. Side slam by Booker scored a 2 count. Booker went for but missed the Axe Kick, which was countered with another Pele. Peyton Banks tried to attack Sharmell, but was whipped for her troubles. Somehow, this distracted STYLES, allowing Booker to roll up AJ for the three count. AJ looked towards Karen to find she was gone...

----------
5.5/10 - Again, it was OK, but there was not much to it. It was certainly not as good as you would have imagined.

After the break, Crystal was with Raisha Saeed and Awesome Kong. Crystal asked about last week, but was cut off while Saeed had another statement. She told Gail * ODB that their plan failed at Destination X, as Kong was prepared. She said Kong was an animal and would destroy anything in her path. She said last week should serve as a warning and they would suffer...The Wrath Of Kong...

KONG!!!!

Gail Kim & ODB def. Team EVIL Pron~! in a "Wow, what a pair of contenders they turned out to be..." match
The newly evil Team Pron~! made their way out first, as we saw a recap of their horrible beatdown of Roxxi Leveaux. When ODB came out, we saw the beating Gail took last week and ODB's save. And speaking of Asian chicks with finishers named after sexual acts, Gail came out to round out the field. Love & ODB started things off, with ODB powering Love into the corner. Tenay got another plug in for the live show with a plug on a vote as to who should challenge Kong on that show next week.

They traded taunts before Love tagged in Sky. ODB took Sky down before putting on the front facelock, before ODB tagged in Gail Kim. Gail worked over Velvet. However Angelina helped block an armdrag before tagging in. Gail worked over Angelina, hitting a crossbody out of the corner. Lucha armdrag to Love, but Velvet kneed Gail in the back and Angelina hit a kick on Kim for a 2 count. Sky came back in and the porno chicks hit a double elbow for a 2 count.

Gail was whipped and charged in the corner before Sky hit a bulldog for a 2 count. Love was tagged back in, with Angelina hitting a low dropkick for a 2 count. Love rammed Gail's head into the mat, but Kim began to fight back with a flying clothesline. Both women managed to make tags. ODB ran wild on both the beautiful people, hitting a faceplant on Sky for a 2 count. Kim came back in, hitting a spear on Love. ODB was hit with a jawbreaker, but she caught a diving Velvet, to hit a powerslam for the three count.

----------
5.5/10 - Decent stuff, but given how the babyfaces are the only 2 challengers to the belt, this was far too long and far too competitive. And given that we're supposed to vote for one of the 2 next week, booking Gail to struggle again Love & Sky didn't do her chances any good whatsoever.
----------

Tenay plugged the live vote again, as the faces left. Roxxi pushed past Kim & ODB, going after Team Pron~! chasing them out the building.

Borash was with Kurt Angle JB brought up Karen, but Angle grabbed him saying the re was no Karen. No fun. No BS. He said that Joe said if he lost at Lockdown, he'd leave TNA and Angle now had his chance. He said Joe was training, but it wouldn't matter as Angle hadn't been more focused and he'd see it later when he took on four geeks. Nice fire from Angle.

Notable "live show next week" mentions thus far...THREE

We returned to a video of Joe in training, as well as comments from random people. They claimed an MMA fighter was training was Joe, and that this guy was TEACHING Joe stuff. If I didn't know better, I'd say they were pretending this was an actual MMA fight. I don't yet know if that's good or bad...

Well, this is probably as close as Angle's getting to MMA for a LONG time...
Kurt Angle came out as we saw one geek in the ring and three more on the outside. Angle had gloves on had his feet taped up like an MMA Fighter, as was the first jobber. Angle took the guy down and put on a side choke for the tap out. The second guy came in and threw some fists. He quickly put the heel hook on that guy before the third one came in. Tenay said on the live show, there would be Frank Trig (or something) to discuss the match. Angle choked out the 3rd guy with the guillotine. Angle headbutted the forth guy right away and started pounding him for the KO That busted the guy open.

Angle got on the mic and told Joe to keep training and training, although it wouldn't matter, showing the blood on his taped fist. I like this "MMA" direction, because it adds fire to the match. Thing is, given that Angle is so desperate to be accepted by the MMA fraternity, even though he wouldn't be able to do MMA properly and commit to it like he'd have to, to me, this feels forced into things just to give Angle that sense of doing MMA.

We went TO THE BACK~! with Team Tomko in it's entirety. Borash said he was impressed. Tomko said he should have been a leader all the time and not Cage. They mocked what Cage had on his team. He told Nash that up until now he and Nash didn't have a problem, but they did now. Tomko promised to break Cage at Lockdown. D-Von said that this was the pack they'd be rolling with and as far as he was concerned, before suggesting the MCMG, or Curry Man or Shark Boy as team members. D-Von then busted out TAZZ'S old catchphrase of "Beat us if you can, survive if we let you". Ray was left to Testify to that.

Notable "live show next week" mentions thus far...FOUR

We came back to a video that hinted at Consequences Creed's return at Lockdown. Well, that's what I believe. It was a guy in a Rocky-like training video and it said "Prepare for the Consequences" (or something like that) before showing Lockdown’s date, so you do the match...

Tenay then introduced a video showing the history of Rhino and Christian Cage, including footage of their pre-fame Indy days.

Christian Cage & Rhino def. Team 3D in a "Well, to be fair, Sting is a tougher proposition than the MCMG and Shark Boy..." match
Team 3D came out with Devine as we saw them beat up on the Survivor dude last week. Rhino then made his second entrance of the evening, before Christian made his entrance. Cage & D-Von started things off. Well, they circled each other before Rhino tagged himself in. However, D-Von got the first shot in, before working him over. However, Rhino reversed a whip and hit a shoulder to the gut in the corner. Christian was tagged in, but D-Von regained control. Christian slid out and pulled Ray off the apron before hitting a flying shoulder block on D-Von for a 2 count. Devine grabbed at Cage, which allowed D-Von to down Cage. Rhino ran after Devine, but Ray took him down as we took a final break.

Notable "live show next week" mentions thus far...SIX

We came back to see Ray send Cage into the corner, with Christian’s shoulder hitting the post. D-Von was tagged in, as he hit a scoop slam, as Tenay pimped that next week, Angle would have another public sparring session, but his opponents would be AJ & Tomko!!! Ray distracted the ref as Cage rolled D-Von up, only scoring a 2 when Hebner paid attention. The Saving Grace was countered with a reverse DDT. Both sides made tags. Rhino gave Ray a back drop and then D-Von got one as well. Double clothesline took down 3D. Spinebuster to Ray scored a 2 count, with D-Von breaking it up. Cage worked over D-Von in the corner, but Ray cut him off. However, Cage countered and Rhino sent D-Von into Ray's nuts. Cage jumped out onto Devine while Rhino scored the GORE~! Tomko ran in and pulled the referee out for the DQ.

----------
6/10 - Decent enough fare, if only to serve what happened next...
----------

AJ & Tomko went to work on Rhino. Cage came back, but it was too much for him. However, Kevin Nash led out the MCMG, Curry Man & Shark Boy. However, all the babyfaces ended up taking a beating. The heels cheered.

That was until...the lights went out and Sting's music & video played!!!!! However, he wasn't there. Tenay & West immediately said he'd be there next week.

OVERALL - 6/10 (- 1 on last week) - Decent show this week. In fact, in some ways it was an improvement, because I can't remember a show since Vince Russo returned that has had less head-scratching material in it ever. This was really rather straight forward. They also gave the double main event good builds. HOWEVER, that said, none of the matches were anything to write home about, and there is almost no card beyond the double main event, with only the mixed tag made, and we've seen it already and the Xscape match. If there's any other matches, they're beyond me. Plus, while the second hour saw a lot more plugs for the live show next week, there should have been a lot more. One per segment, even if it was just a quick graphic. No TV ads on the stream I used. Plenty for "What The F*** Friday" and Pros vs. Joes, but none for next week's Impact.

And with regard to next week, what's with Angle taking on his own back up? I mean, Angle is looking to take down and take out his own team??? You would think he'd want them around to, you know, help just in case things go awry! That's what Joe's worry was about all along! Anyway, streams permitting, I'll try and actually do a Real Time Impact next week. But until then, I'm outta here.
