Insanity Readers and Staff Choose: 2009's Wrestler of The Year...

By World Wrestling Insanity's Readers & Staff Dec 31, 2009 - 4:00 PM

Just two years ago, one returned to save us from the other.  Today, they're both considered Wrestler of the Year.  Now ain't that a kick in the head...junior?

2009 Reader's Choice for Wrestler of The Year is...

Chris Jericho

2nd Place:  C.M. Punk
3rd Place:   Randy Orton

Reader Comments:

"No one, no one, has been better than Chris Jericho in the last couple of years.  Why WWE has never gotten behind Jericho for a real run as champion is mindnumbingly stupid to me.  Jericho has done (while changing partners midreign by the way) what WWE didn't even try to do for years....made tag team wrestling relevant again, and still managing to maintain main event singles status.  I'm begging for a long reign of Chris Jericho as world or WWE Champion. " - Emmett Gore

" Simply put, he is the best in the world at what he does. Amazing year for the former Y2J and loved every feud he was in, from HBK to Mickey Rourke to Rey Mysterio. Heres hoping 2010 brings a great summer feud with Edge."- Zack Levine

"Regardless of what you do with him, Jericho shines. And for the second straight year, he's taken control of the spotlight he has been in and ran with it. From teaming with Big Show, to fighting with Mickey Rourke, Jericho is consistent and creative in a company where very little changes. . "

2009 Staff Choice for Wrestler of The Year is...

Randy Orton

" Four or five years ago, Orton was the butt of Internet jokes, a dim-witted pretty boy that was known as much for his behind-the-scenes antics as he was for what he did in the ring. In 2009, he clearly belongs in the main event. His matches are generally solid and believable, he has a Horsemen-esque stable watching his back, and his character has to developed to a point where he fits in battling pretty much anyone on the roster. It's still early, but I could definitely see Orton developing into this generation's Ric Flair. " - Canadian Bulldog

"In the past, he was always the top guy,  but not THE guy." But no one in the business has been more convincing in their role in 2009 than Orton. He really cemented himself as the top heel in WWE."   - Matt Dawgs

" Much like when I voted for HBK last year, this year has basically been all about one man, and that is Randy Orton.  Form establishing Legacy to then targeting the whole McMahon family, leading to his title win at Backlash, and then onto his long feud with John Cena, which I think produced more better matches than bad, especially a MOTY Candidate match in their I Quit match from Breaking Point, to his efforts in trying to help Kofi Kingston get over at the end of the year, there has been no one wrestler more prevalent in the WWE, or for my money TNA, or anywhere really, that has been so important to the promotion than Randy Orton." - Aaron Wood
