Readers and Staff Agree. 2009's Tag Team of The Year is...

By World Wrestling Insanity's Readers & Staff Dec 26, 2009 - 1:36 PM

Tag Team of the Year.  That's what these two were - hands down.  The votes weren't all that close, but closer than most would have expected.  When it comes to tag teaming in 2009, they were more than a Big Show.  They were the entire show...

" Finally bringing prestige and meaning back to a set of straps we'd all given up on; the fact that they were thrown together as the result of an injury to Edge makes their longevity all the more impressive. I'd loved to have voted for Beer Money or The British Invasion, but neither one can touch these two. "

" At a time when most guys split from a team to break out, Big Show did it by joining a team.  Chavo couldn't get him over.  Vicki couldn't.  Even Edge couldn't.  Jericho did and it's the first time in about a decade I cared about anything Show has done.  Talk about chemistry. "

" In a year where Tag Team wrestling really went nowhere, JeriShow stood tall. Cryme Tyme, the Hart Dynasty, and Legacy did nothing in comparison to what JeriShow did. Giving the titles some relevancy plus making Show relevant again,  this team was gold" - Adam Airforce

Staff Comments:

" WWE began taking tag team wrestling seriously again this year(compared to the last half-decade, at least) and a big part of that was Chris Jericho and The Big Show. By using the tried-and-true "big man/little man" act and backing up their words with actions, Jericho and Show made it cool again to be tag team champions."

"I almost voted for DX this year. They were just so over and they really busted their asses to help get Legacy over. The problem with DX is that they're still more of a special attraction than a regular team. Jerishow gets my vote because they epitomize the classic "Odd Couple" tag team. I never thought Jericho and Show would work but not only do they have great chemistry onscreen but they're very good as a team. Beer Money deserves an honorable mention for consistently excellent work and might have got my vote if I cared more about TNA!"

" When Chris Jericho and Edge got together earlier in the year ad hoc and won the tag titles, people were creaming themselves at the awesomeness.  When Edge was injured and Jericho said he'd be getting a replacement, people were full of theories.  It'll be Christian!  Someone from Florida to help get them started!  Jericho's facing Legacy, so it'll be Orton!  Just about every name on the roster was bandied about, but when Chris Jericho stared down Legacy and introduced Big Show, you could feel the air deflate in the collective IWC room.  Many of you thought this was one of the worst things WWE could have done short of having Jericho decapitate a baby.  Me?  Not my first choice, but I was willing to give it a shot.  And damn good thing that I did, because JeriShow fast had the doubters eating humble pie, because the pair had an undoubtable chemistry and had a string of good matches while champions.  It's been rather odd that while the Tag Titles have become one of the main belts in the whole WWE, and since they came together at Wrestlemania, they have been fought for mainly by main eventers, it hasn't necessarily been a banner year for actual tag teams, with more teams breaking up rather than coming to prominence.  I'm sure that balance will be readdressed, starting with whoever relieves the titles from DX (c'mon Hart Dynasty!), but the belts themselves have had a great run on top this year, and the lynchpins of that were JeriShow.
