Readers and Staff Agree. 2006's Heel of the Year is...

By World Wrestling Insanity's Readers & Staff Dec 26, 2006 - 11:43 AM

You hated him all year, but in the way you're supposed to.  You know, not in that X-Pac way.  Yup.  In another catagory that had the same winner from both the Readers and the Staff, 2006's Insanity Heel of the Year is...

Edge
Why not? It‘s nice.

2nd Place:  King Booker
3rd Place:   Mr. Kennedy

Staff

3rd Place:  (Three Way Tie) Kurt Angle, King Booker, Chris Hero

Reader Comments:

"He's had ladder matches, barbed wire matches, matches with Ric Flair, Mick Foley, Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, memorable feuds with ECW, raises ratings and gets Cena cheered"
- Richard Huang

"Edge is a great example of a wrestler who has done the hard yards and gets rewarded in the long run. He is a slightly different style of heel from the norm and has been one of the top heels in the WWE for a while now. I don’t like his teaming with Orton though (who has turned into the new Lita, running around wearing Edges shirt) and the R-Rated gimmick seemed to be simply constructed to make the Rated RKO name, but overall Edge has been a step above anything else his done before the Money In The Bank ladder match and the other heels since HHH turned face."
- Jacki Egan

"Easy, it should be Edge. He's just the kind of guy you wish you could be but would slap the piss from him at any chance. The guy is really hateable
."
- Nawaf Zubari

Staff Comments:

"This man has managed to develop a solid heel persona and has managed to keep the fans from rallying behind him with his mike skills and actions. Edge, for his entire career has either played a hard working babyface or a chicken sh*t heel. This time, he has become a credible main event threat and a valuable piece to the main event roster."
-  Matt Dawgs

"I think the biggest reason Edge was WWE's MVP was because he did what nobody else could do...

...get John Cena cheered.

Cena was booed for most of 2005 and not even Kurt Angle crapping on American troops in Iraq could stop the cheers from always going for whomever Cena's opponent was. Along came Edge and, for the most part, that all changed. Whether it was his ability to bore under people's skin or if it was watching him salivate over Matt Hardy's ex-girlfriend, Edge was booed more than anybody on the planet over the past year and really helped save WWE and John Cena's push in the process."
- ZAH

"No one has ever been able to take a personal situation - one that they wanted to keep secret - and turned into as big of a positive as Edge.  He buckled up in 2005 and has been riding the rocket of controversy ever since.  I was glad to see him come into his own in '06."
- James Guttman
