Readers and Staff Agree. 2011's Worst Announcer or Commentator of The Year is...

By World Wrestling Insanity's Readers & Staff Dec 25, 2011 - 9:05 AM

Know who liked this year's winner for Worst Commentator or Announcer?  No.  Seriously.  Not a rhetorical question.  Anyone like him?  Anyone at all?  Talk about a runaway win.  This year's choice was simple for many fans and thanks to his on again/off again heelish annoyance, this year's winner gave fans an easy choice that didn't require them to think outside the box, so to speak...

2011's Worst Announcer or Commentator of The Year is...

Michael Cole

"He is like that noise Jim Carrey makes in Dumb and Dumber. To top it off, every now and then he acts sincere about "face" things, totally breaking his already stupid confusing character. "
- Ben Davis

People talk about "X-Pac Go Away Heat".  Well, I'd rather spend a month on an island watching nothing but X-Pac matches than listen to Michael Cole for three minutes. " - Jordyn B.

"Growing up with heel announcers like Jesse Ventura and Bobby Heenan makes me appreciate just how awful Michael Cole is right now. During their time, Ventura and Heenan were so good at making the fans question their favorite superstars true intentions while coming off as Grade-A jerks. Cole is almost a caricature of those great commentators. Cole might try to do the same thing as “The Body” and “The Brain”, but the way he goes about it doesn’t make me want to yell at the TV screen. When Cole speaks, I want to hit the mute button. One of the major reasons he’s horrible is because a lot of times Cole just doesn’t make any sense, and will contradict himself. Look no further than the Raw following “TLC”. During the main event, Cole declared Ryder a nerd because, as a child, he drew pictures of WWF wrestlers in. In the same sentence, Cole concluded his point of Ryder being a “nerd” by stating, “Now he’s living his dream, and is the U.S. champion!” Wait, what? So dreaming about becoming in life, only to successfully do it makes you a nerd and a loser. When someone trumped Heenan’s or Ventura’s pick over Hogan, it felt like another victory for the fans because two villains were defeated. With Cole, it’s just nice to hear him not say anything when situations like Daniel Bryan winning the World title occur. While Booker T. might be annoying and can’t complete a sentence at times, at least he can spout off funny lines. Shucky ducky, quack quack!" - James Bullock

"Can he have your attention please? If so, take your TV off mute and listen to his awful character ramble on about stupid sh*t ." - RD Lee

-
" I never thought that the X-Pac go away heat could be transfered so succesfully to an announcer but it was and Cole's announcing is one of the reasons I no longer watch Raw religiously ." - Kevin Wallace

"Let's be honest.  You should never mess with the character of someone who speaks to your audience continously for two hours unless you have something in mind for him.  Michael Cole has been floundering in this heelish tweener gimmick since Daniel Bryan was a rookie on NXT.  Back then, we all wondered where it was going.  Now, Daniel is World Champion and we still have no idea.  All we have is this confusing character who seems to contradict his own thoughts over the course of the night.  It's like he has multiple personalities, but they're all named "Michael Cole" and they're all jerks. Nothing says logic holes like having your main announcer ridicule babyfaces like John Cena and then acting sad for them when they're selling some sort of injury.  I miss the days when Cole's announcing was annoying accidentally.  Now it seems like we're all being punished for the fact that Vince McMahon can't find a new J.R. that he's happy with.
