James Guttman's Thoughts on The Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir Fight

Hey Guys,
I just finished watching the Brock Lesnar-Frank Mir fight and wanted to jump online to give my thoughts. Before anything, I don’t usually cover UFC because, while I'm a fan, I don't consider myself an expert. I cover pro wrestling. As for MMA, I'm just a fan that enjoys a good fight. To be honest, there's few things that get me jumping out of my chair like a solid shoot fight between two top competitors.
Tonight's match was insane. While I'm sure so many people were thinking about how amazing it would be to see Brock lose in the first round, I doubt many thought it would happen. In fact, UFC's fans voted for Lesnar to win by 55% to 45%. In the end, it was all about Mir. He scored a tap out at 1:30 of round one. Crazy.
Lesnar went for his usual ground and pound. It looked good at first, but soon took a turn. After losing a point for hitting Frank in the back of the head, Brock returned to his strategy. However, a knee bar out of nowhere was his downfall.
I haven't freaked out like that since I saw Mike Tyson lose to Buster Douglas back when I was a kid. I wasn't cheering for Frank Mir or Brock Lesnar. I was cheering for something unexpected and that's what we got.
To Brock's credit, he delivered a gracious post-match interview. But - wow. Crazy stuff. It's unexpected things like this that make wrestling fans gravitate to MMA. We can guess or predict the outcomes, but we never know for sure.
Just a quick note while talking UFC. This week's Radio Free Insanity with UFC Hall of Famer Dan Severn will be up on Monday. I'm not about to compete with the Superbowl. Plus, I'll be downing way too many beers to be ready for any sort of audio. In the meantime, check out Dan's uncut
ClubWWI.com interview. You'll be glad you did.
Be Well,
James
