The Jamie Kennedy Experiment: Hulk Hogan Arrives and Jamaican Kofi Departs
By Jamie Kennedy
Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this weeks edition of The Jamie Kennedy Experiment with me, your host, that Scottish dude. WWE Bragging Rights has come and gone and in my opinion, the company produced a really enjoyable show. I've read a lot of mixed reviews regarding the event but personally, I had a blast watching it. Sure John Cena and Randy Orton partaking in a stall-fest for around 40 minutes of their hour-long Iron Man match might not be everyone's cup of tea but at least both men attempted to tell a story. I'm all for storytelling in my wrestling rather than random spot-fest bouts which could potentially end someone's career, even if I am a fan of “car crash” wrestling to. So without further stalling on my part, let's get underway with this weeks topics for “Mat Mumblings”. Strap yourself in and enjoy the ride! (Never repeat that line at the beginning of the day if you work in a school..)
Hulk Hogan signs with TNA wrestling! We've all heard this one by now, even if we don't all frequent professional wrestling news or rumour websites. This story has been all over the place and really does just go to show you how much of a grip Mr. Terry Bollea has over the modern wrestling universe. The mere mention of this and his more than subtle hinting that he may very well be involved in booking decisions for the promotion has caused countless conversations among wrestling fans worldwide. Does TNA now have the star power and name content to compete with the virtually unchallenged WWE? Will Hogan have a positive or negative impact (no pun intended) on the business of the Nashville/Orlando based organisation? Only time will really tell as up to this point the great big orange saviour himself hasn't appeared on TNA television besides a hastily cobbled together video detailing what went down at the heavily hyped press conference held by TNA at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Of course, this article is being penned just hours before this weeks TNA iMPACT! taping airs so theoretically, he could show up tonight in some capacity. Your writer seriously doubts this however, there will a tremendous amount of build-up for The “Hulksters” initial performance on the TNA stage. It would be a stunningly bad business decision (and one eerily similar to something WCW would have done 10 years ago) to simply have Hogan show up without being announced prior to the event. Whether or not anyone believes it, the guy still is a draw
–
not just to hardcore grappling fanatics but also people who have tagged onto his life through the “successes” of his “Hogan Knows Best” reality TV show.
It really is doubtful that over in Stamford the company TNA aspires to be, World Wrestling Entertainment, are sweating their former icon joining up with Dixie Carter and co. It just shows yet again that while the WWE are striving to build new superstars out of the younger portions of their roster, TNA are again focusing on wrestling's old boys. Yes Hulk Hogan is a big name and a major signing for Total Non-Stop Action wrestling BUT if he comes in and runs roughshod over men like AJ Styles, Matt Morgan and Abyss then TNA will only be shooting itself in the foot. Hogan could be used for so much more and I implore the company to utilise his obvious draw and star power as a means to take their own home-made stars to the next level. Of course, everytime a legendary grappler is brought back to any company, this sort of plea is made time and time again

usually to little or no effect. I really think I speak for a majority when I say that it is only a matter of months before Hulk Hogan is TNA Heavyweight Champion. Let's just hope he doesn't bring Ed Leslie in with him...
Kofi Kingston is no longer Mr. Jamaica but a serious character who is now on his way to the top.. Perhaps one of the most enjoyable segments over the past 5 years of WWE television took place on the 26th October airing of WWE Monday Night RAW. While Randy Orton was in the ring with Legacy making his case for yet another main event match with John Cena for the WWE Title, Mr. Kingston appeared on the titantron and cut a career-making promo on the “Viper” before smashing up his newly aquired 'gift' of a NASCAR from Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. The segment really went over well, not only with the live audience in Buffalo, NY but also with yours truly. I wrote in a prior JKE column about some of the men within WWE whom I felt could potentially make the leap into super-stardom and the lucrative heights of main eventing Pay-Per-View telecasts. There were many men on that list, Kofi Kingston, probably rather suprisingly, was not among them. Looking back on the writing now, the reasons are very clear. He wasn't really doing all that much in late June. Sure he was WWE U.S Champion but most of his defences were in multi-man matches and didn't really involve him being tied down to a solid rivalry with any of his opponents. Kingston was simply a man lost in the mix. He was having great matches and entertaining the fans, but he was firmly in the mid-card and looked set to stay there for the timebeing. Recently however, having lost the faux-Jamaican accent (which to be fair to WWE, was handled rather well and in good humour
–
the fans are not stupid, we probably all knew he was just a guy playing a character so it's nice for the company to show us some respect by handling it in such a light hearted fashion) Kofi is on the rise. What looks like a potential upper-midcard slot feud with one Randy Orton can do NOTHING but help the master of the “Boom Drop”, provided it is handled with the same care and attention as his accent loss was.
Please please please can we have a clean win for Kofi on at least one PPV? I'm certain this defeat would not harm Orton in the slightest, the “WWE Universe” already buy him a main event player and a threat to anybody on the roster. Kingston does not have to win the entire feud, he just needs to look strong and important. He has a marketable look, can clearly talk and fans go nuts for his enthusiasm and high-impact ring style. Give him the ball and he will surely not only run the length of the field, but stay behind after practice and do a couple more laps. I have faith in the guy to become a pivotal member of the RAW locker room in coming months. That's us for this week, I hope you enjoyed my views and opinions. Please do not be afraid to share your own with me. I'm anxious to hear from you, I just like hearing from wrestling fans

whether they agree with me or not. Share the love or the hate. Or the hateful love, if you're nasty and are into that sort of thing..
