Raw's guest hosts had gotten pretty pathetic in recent weeks, so last Monday night having William Shatner, the original Captain Kirk, at the helm of Starship Raw was a real treat. There were times when he seemed a little out of his element, but when he was good, he was verrrry good. I could have listened to him reciting the lyrics to entrance themes all night.
Also, the other shoe dropped on Monday night's Raw as it pertains to the Montreal Screw Job. Sort of. Since Mister McMahon's confrontation with Bret "The Hitman" Hart did not have a conclusive ending, it left the door open for retribution down the road. With Batista involved now, and the late Stu Hart's induction into the Hall of Fame hanging in the balance, chances are whatever is going to happen will play out in the weeks leading up to WrestleMania.
A new season of "Celebrity Apprentice" will begin next month with more than the usual number of wrestling luminaries in the cast. These include Goldberg, Diva Maria (Kanellis) and Cyndi Lauper. Of course the one cast member who is likely to be mentioned the most often is disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, but as the saying goes, there's no such thing as bad publicity. It might even help him in his upcoming trial.
While we're on the subject of Goldberg, the latest season of his "Bullrun," a road rally realty show, starts later this month on the Speed Channel. The rules have been tweaked a bit to make the show even more exciting.
On CMT, this is WWE Superstars Week on "On You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" The Miz, Big Show, Michelle McCool, and others will match wits with fifth graders in an attempt to win money for their favorite charities. Check your local listings for time and channel.
There is no shortage of wrestlers in cross-over roles when it comes to plugging something, but how about NASCAR drivers in cross-over roles? Next Monday, February 8, Roush-Fenway driver Carl Edwards will be the guest host on Raw. Edwards and John Cena have worked together in the past, so I'm willing to bet that he and Cena will be cahooting Monday night.
So what is NASCAR plugging? The Daytona 500, which will take place on February 14! You'll notice that the 14th is also Valentine's Day, so be sure to take care of your sweetie before you pop the top on your Budweiser and order a pizza. (Hint: Chocolates are always a good choice.)
Those are just a few of the shows where you'll find familiar faces in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, "Survivor All-Stars" doesn't seem to have any legendary wrestling liars this time, but then it's hard to top Jonny Fairplay, isn't it?
Enjoy the shows!
