Mallory's Thoughts on Bob Barker, Wrestling Game Shows, Breaking Point, and Trish Stratus

The last thing I expected to see Monday night was the venerable host of "The Price is Right," Bob Barker, inviting folks to come on down. However, given the diversity of the Raw Guest Hosts, I guess it shouldn't have been that much of a surprise.

Actually, it was a fairly clever way to pitch the new "Best of Smackdown" DVD set and other upcoming events geared toward extracting entertainment dollars from your pockets and/or purses.  (And at least it didn't involve DX pitching the products in their own inimitable (and tedious) style.)

I'm not sure how much of a wrestling fan Barker is, but he played along perfectly and didn’t let the rowdy superstars phase him at all, try as they might.  But then after 50 years on TV, he's probably seen it all.

One thing concerned me, however, and that was Randy Orton's penchant for RKO'ing and/or drop-kicking guests. Barker looked elderly and frail.  A person could break a hip taking a careless RKO. Or any other move, for that matter.

One Guest Host who probably won't be intimidated by Randy Orton's boorish behavior is next week's promised Guest Host, Trish Stratus. But would Randy treat a lady in such an uncouth manner? What do you think?

Trish has been gone from WWE for far too long and it will be good to see one of WWE's favorite and most talented Divas again.

Mark your calendars.  "Breaking Point," a unique concept in pay per views, will air this coming Sunday.

(Didn't they just have a PPV about three weeks ago? Whatever.)

This one will be special because all the endings will be via submission.

(Yawn.)

If I were to look into my crystal ball, I'd say "Breaking Point" will have a spotty buy rate, with or without the greedy frequency of these sports entertainment spectaculars. While there won't be any screw-job finishes, a lack of creativity may affect the drama of the submission finishes.

Thanks for reading and see ya next week.
