Mallory's Thoughts on Entrance Music, Subtleties, and Cade & Murdoch

By Mallory Mahling

...

Pro wrestling is by its very nature an over-the-top kind of business. The bigger, the louder, the more ostentatious, the better.

That's why when reflecting on this week's Raw I found myself liking the things that weren't all that apparent at first. Instead of hitting fans over the head, they used the art of nuance. Small things that made a big difference.

For instance, most readers know I've never been a fan of Randy Orton, but his new entrance music seemed to give him more dimension. Dare I say it made him more likable?  And all it took was something as simple as a song.

Jeff Hardy got new music, too. While not as toe-tapping a tune as Orton's, it didn't scream "free spirit" either.  His ring attire was also less free spirit-y.  Hmmm...are we seeing a new, more mature Jeff Hardy? Again, subtle differences, but good ones.

Trevor Murdoch singing a victory song at the request of Lance Cade was a fairly simple plot twist, right up until Cade unloaded on him. Okay, maybe that part wasn't very subtle. However, it did add another subtle layer to the feud between these two. It's been a long time since a tag team had a storyline that was interesting. The key word here is "interesting," so don't bother to remind me that the Spirit Squad had an elaborate storyline. Anyway, Murdoch has a good voice and could pull off a country singer gimmick very nicely.  I'm really liking this feud.

Sometimes it's the smallest things that make the most difference.

Thanks for reading and see ya next week.
