Mallory's Thoughts on High Drama Courtesy of WWE
WWE has started off 2009 with lots of drama, especially on Raw--and that can be a very good thing. Even better, some of it is based on today's headlines. The economic downtown--the rich getting poorer--is always a compelling set of circumstances. Of course, the tale of the poor Shawn Michaels squirming under JBL's rich thumb just has to have payback at the end of it. One can hope that the tables will eventually turn and JBL will find himself on the poor side of the street sometime soon…say around WrestleMania.
How long before Rosa Mendes joins the Raw roster? This is another example of high drama, where an audience member seemingly takes her adoration too far. While watching Santino ham it up on Monday night, I couldn't help but think that it wasn't that long ago that he himself was plucked from an audience for his big break. While I'm a little weary of Kane eviscerating people for his amusement, I am enjoying the dynamics of his relationship with Kelly Kelly. Kane confided Monday night that he'd overheard Randy Orton kick Blondie to the curb last week. Uh oh…was Kane going to take it out on Kelly Kelly for lying to him? No, he was going to eviscerate Orton on next week's show and he invited her to watch. That was an empty threat if ever there was one. If Kelly Kelly is like most women, she'd welcome a little revenge for that very public dumping. I think this will be a turning point in the Kelly Kelly/Kane storyline when she turns on Randy and encourages Kane to tear Randy limb from limb. Oh…and eviscerate him, too. * * * "Wrestling's Greatest Moments" I'm nearly finished with marvelous Mike Rickard's new book, "Wrestling's Greatest Moments." It's an outstanding book and one that is invaluable to someone like me who didn't come to wrestling until the mid-1990's. Mike's book has given me a new appreciation for the old AWA shows aired regularly on ESPN Classics. Imagine seeing a teenage Curt Hennig, a pre-Rocker Marty Jannetty, and a brown-haired Scott Hall in his pre-Chico days (before his was too cool for the room). You'll love Mike's book and I highly recommend it. As for the old AWA shows? Check local listings for time and channel. * * * Thanks for reading and see ya next week. blog comments powered by Disqus
