Mallory's Thoughts on Monday Night's Raw: The Sublime and the Ridiculous

By Mallory Mahling May 26, 2010 - 10:10 AM

It wouldn't be too much of a stretch to call Monday night a dream come true for me. I've been a long-time Bret Hart fan, and for him to assume the responsibilities of Raw's General Manager was something I never thought would happen.

Of course, it was the perfect solution to a long-standing problem. Put someone in charge of Raw who could skillfully guide the show. During his first night on the job, Hart showed himself to be a no-nonsense GM. When Jericho or Edge or Batista complained, he came up with alternative solutions--and not necessarily ones that they liked.

As long as we've got Bret Hart back on TV, I guess I should just shut up and enjoy it.  But silly me…I assumed that having an actual GM would bring a halt to the endless stream of idiots who have shown up on Monday nights under the guise of being guest hosts. With the exception on The Hof, I can't think of one of them I'd like to see a second time, while I can think of plenty of them I hope never to see again.  Such as:

- Jerry Springer

- Mindfreak Criss Angel

- The McGruber cast

- The stars of "Hot Tub Time Machine."

- Flava Flav

Remember how they all brightened up the show?

No?

Me either.

And who would have thought that a genuine astronaut--Buzz Aldrin-- would end up sending viewers in search of their remote controls? No disrespect intended, but the guy needed an off switch.

And what was up with Jon Lovitz Monday? That was pitiful. He was either just going through the motions for a fast buck or he is past his prime.

How could a show that started off so well on Monday night (and I am including Batista's hilarious crybaby tantrum) end so badly?  WWE should remember that people tend to remember the last thing they see.  Did they really want viewers to remember being grossed out?  Tacking Ted DiBiase and Virgil onto the end of a lame piece of businiess did not make it any more palatable.

Next week's guest host is going to be the King of the Pranksters, Ashton Kucher.  At least he's a little more adept at that genre than Jon Lovitz.

Thanks for reading and see ya next week.
