RDLee's NXT Report - Daniel Bryan Faces His Worst Nightmare When He Takes On...... The Great Khali?

By RDLee Mar 16, 2010 - 9:59 PM

Welcome to tonight's NXT Report. I am your host, RDLee.

NXT has quickly become my favorite weekly wrestling program since the first episode. I am not just saying that because I review it for the site either. The show is fresh, new and exciting. It is interesting to see the rookies work their way up, even though it is scripted.

-

CM Punk and Darren Young (w/Serena and Luke Gallows) v.s. Matt Hardy and Justin Gabriel

Backstage before the match began Matt Striker announced that in 2 weeks the voting begins and the first round of NXT ends. The veterans will be voting on which rookie should advance but they cannot vote for or against their own rookies so it should be interesting to say the least.

Matt and Justin came out wearing matching colors in their attires, how cute. Darren and Justin started the match for their team. The crowd was pumped for Hardy as usual and continued to cheer him throughout the match. Hardy and Gabriel showed good team work and hit several double team moves. Both rookies looked really good in this match and worked the majority of the bout.

The only thing I keep thinking about during this match is if John Cena will have a face to face backstage with Darren Young (aka Black Cena) tonight since John is going to address the rookies later on. He has got to know that Young is a clone of him by now.

Gabriel missed his 450 degree splash and CM Punk tagged in to try and sneak a pinfall on him while he was suffering the effects of the misfire but Justin kicked out at 2. Punk and Young continued to work together and tag in and out while wearing down Gabriel who eventually tagged in a fresh Matt Hardy who took control and tossed Young out of the ring. Luke Gallows interfered and hit Gabriel with a cheap shot, Hardy took out Gallows and threw Young back in the ring, however Punk hit a GTS on Matt from behind. Young pinned Hardy to win the bout. Gallows took out Hardy, Gabriel and even Darren Young after the match as the Straight Edge Society stood tall.

Winners: CM Punk and Darren Young

Daniel Bryan v.s. The Great Khali

First of all... What the $%!@ is this match doing on here? It is so random and seems like just another way to make Bryan look like a bitch. People really like Khali's theme song as every time it's on you see the crowd dancing. I don't know what to think about this contest to be totally honest.

Bryan and Khali had a stare down before the match. Michael Cole tore down Daniel during the match on commentary. Khali lifted Bryan up for the double armed chokeslam but Daniel locked in a guillotine to bring him to his knees. Bryan followed up with some high spots only to fly right into a chop to the skull followed by the Punjabi Plunge from Khali for the win.

The Big Show came out as Khali's hand was raised and Chokeslamed Daniel Bryan for no reason. What a great way to make Bryan look like a total loser in front of the WWE Universe. I really hope that this is WWE's way of making Daniel pay his dues.

Winner: The Great Khali

Julianne Moore... I mean Heath Slater v.s. Michael Tarver

I still am not sold on Slater. I won't make my final judgement until the show is over though. Michael Tarver looks like a star waiting to take off. He has the look, in-ring ability and character to become a force in the WWE's future like an Ezekial Jackson if they push him right.

Slater hit a wicked twisting dive to the outside of the ring but failed to capatilize on it. Tarver took control again and landed a running facewash Samoa Joe style. The crowd was dead even though both men did their best to keep their attention. Slater picked up the win by grabbing a handful of tights during a rollup. Tarver attacked him after the match and layed him out with a T-Bone suplex. Carlito and Christian bickered backstage about the end result.

Winner: Heath Slater

-

Skip Shepfield (w/ William Regal) v.s. Wade Barrett (w/ Chris Jericho)

Yup, Yup, Yup What it do? This is your NXT main event and Skip and Barrett's second main event apperences since the show began. Shepfield and Regal have a funny odd couple chemistry in which Skip plays the moron and Regal acts aggravated when they interact.

I think it would help out the rookies if they would also get their own entrance music which is a big part of character development in my opinion. Skip doesn't quite get into his role when coming out and cowboying it up to Regal's slow and menacing music.

Both men have potential as I think Barrett will make it to the end of the competition. Skip looks like he would be a good tag team partner to Chris Masters over on Raw since they share the same build, in ring style and seemingly forced charisma.

Shepfield tried showboating for Regal but was yanked off the top rope and then fell victim to Barrett's Firemen's Carry slam finisher. William looked very disappointed in his rookies and gave him dirty looks. That's all for tonight folks, thanks for watching and I'll catch you next week for more NXT.

Winner: Wade Barrett
