Fritz Stephey Takes a Look at the WWE Draft

By Fritz Stephey Jun 21, 2008 - 3:12 PM

Perhaps its to freshen up their television programming, or perhaps it's a step in normalizing Professional Wrestling like unto other sports...either way, it's here again, and it's coming next week: The WWE Draft.

I'm sure you're very excited for it considering how last years turned out, and with all the great programming we've had this week. I'm sure you're scheduling your day around the event so you wont miss it. And I mean, why talk about the money giveaway ( Will it still be going on this Monday? Can you imagine RAW with twice the amount of mindless interruptions?)...because, Vince McMahon just screwed me over both times ( stupid dumb bastard).

Now honestly, I like the idea of the WWE Draft, because it's a chance to at least mix some things up a bit. Last year when Ken Kennedy was traded to RAW, for example. I freaked, because I'm a Kennedy mark and I didn't really watch SmackDown! Granted, not much happened with that. But still, I think it was a good call, and I got my Kennedy fix. ( In fact, Vinnie-Mac should base his programming solely around whether or not I like the idea...imagine how fun that'd be)

I think some interesting moves can be made this year, but I am not expecting a major shock. So let's just lay it out straight, guys 'n gals: Chris Jericho ain't going to SmackDown, John Cena ain't going to ECW, and Aaron Wood won't stop sucking. Oh, I mean---um...wrong article.

Here's what I can easily see, though: MVP to RAW. Yeah, he's come a damn long way from when we were making fun of him for being the gay power ranger. He is the definition of "spotlight". In light of the recent CW fallout, I imagine WWE would want to ship someone like that to the flagship brand and start building him up.

Outside of that? It's anybody's guess. Go to the RAW Superstars page...I dare you...look at it. You don't even see half of them on a regular basis. Maybe Umanga gets turfed out? Or Snitsky? And hey...I see Val Venis on this list...what's gonna happen to him!? What's he been up to since Heat was ditched? Wearing a towel backstage? Here's hoping they make some good moves, come Monday.
