Fritz Stephey on The Meaning, Mindset, and Marketing of Mun-ayy Mania

In case you managed to not hear it, Vince McMahon announced 2 weeks ago on RAW that he will give away money totaling up to One Million Dollars. Now we can sit and debate what he's doing it for ( despite the fact that last week on Raw he broke down in tears openly admitting that he's doing it to gain ratings), and let's ask an honest question. Do you wanna win money?

Me? Yeah, I think it'd be cool. I don't need a million bucks, but hey...if I won even $1,000 I'd be extremely happy (until they took the taxes out...damn Government). Would it make me tune into RAW ( putting aside the fact that for the most part, I already watch RAW on a regular basis anyway)? Well, it's making me log on to WWE.com everyday to enter.

But honestly, is that McMahon's whole angle? To get back old viewers and bring in new ones? Because, I'm sure we are all in on the same page that if that is the case, then it's absolutely ridiculous and a total waste of Vince's pocket change ( Pocket change that...mind you...I wouldn't mind winning. Sure...it's blood money...but it's money).

Why is it always a quick fix? If you don't like the ratings, obviously you must not be putting on your A-game. Sure, luring in fools to give out cash might gain you back some or even new fans and viewers, but...what if you do it while throwing out mediocre BS? (Example: If immediately before the "secret code" goes out you have a match that takes Snitsky versus...pretty much anyone, and I can guarantee you that audience won't stick around.)

Imagine if TNA were doing this ( And they kinda are, by having  knockout plants audience members get squashed wrestle Awesome Kong for "$25,000"). Sure, people would tune in to win cash. There's plenty of people who enter every contest imaginable simply because A. It's Free and B. You COULD win, but if they continued with their usual foray they run week-in and week-out ( ...and they have), no one will give two sh*ts once the contest is done. Same logic applies to RAW.

Bottom line: This is a horrible idea, Vince. Unless, of course, I am one of the winners AND pull more than $1,000. If that is the case, then you sir...are a gentleman and a scholar.
