(JG Note:  We're pleased to welcoime James Bullock aboard with the first World Wrestling Insanity review of Pro Wrestling Unplugged's Power Surge TV.  You can see the broadcast yourself on ProWrestlingUnplugged.com.  PWU Owner Tod Gordon, PWU Champion Too Cold Scorpio, and others from the company have all taken part in uncut interviews with ClubWWI.com.)

Welcome to the first review of PWU’s Power Surge TV web cast. My name is James Bullock, and I’m your host. My favorite color is red, I like long walks on the beach and…wait, that’s not what you’re here for, are you?

Tod Gordon, former head of the original ECW, runs PWU. It’s full of vets like Too Cold Scorpio and Blue Meanie. As well as up and comers like The Best Around. And don’t forget women like Sara Del Rey and Mercedes Martinez. Well, enough talk. Lets get started.

PWU Power Surge TV

3/13/08

Philadelphia, PA

We kick off tonight’s show with Johnny Kashmere (of Backseat Boys fame with Trent Acid) having a celebration/Come To Jesus meeting with the Flash Family of Adam Flash, Stephanie Flash, and The S.A.T (I thought they were Maximos). Kashmere is getting the troops prepared for their conquest of PWU.

Last week on Power Surge TV, “The Latin Sensation” Mercedes Martinez steals the win from Sara Del Rey over Cindy Rogers to become next in line to face Amy Lee (who could definitely out-eat me in a buffet) for the PWU Women’s Title.

To say Sara is upset about it is an understatement. She’s so angry that she can barely catch her breath between sentences before Cindy Rogers offers her help in taking out Martinez.

We cut to the other side of the arena where Mercedes promises to prove that she is “the toughest bitch in PWU!” Hey, watch it now, Mercedes. If you talkin’ ‘bout tough ones, you talkin’ ‘bout Amy Lee. Amy Lee (who has her abused, mentally retard adult son who sleeps on a bed of nails as her second in command. Really, I’m not making this up) decides she’ll team up with Martinez so they can rid themselves of the competition before finding out who’s the true #1 woman in PWU.

After the intro, we head to the back where we find announcers Jack Black and Dan Cowhey running down their next big show, Haunted, as well as the main event for tonight’s show between The Best Around and The New Jersey All Stars.

Cameras find Sterling James Keenan (a.k.a. CM Punk lite…or WWECW CM Punk), who decides to give a promo before his match. SJK hasn’t been in PWU for nearly two years, and is actually upset because coming back meant he had to return to Philadelphia. Or as Keenan likes to call it “Flithadelphia.” You get it? You see what he did? He changed…never mind. I guess you had to be there.

Sterling James Keenan vs. Aramis
Aramis looks a little like a bigger, young Jay Lethal, OOOH YEAH! Aramis, being the rookie, actually outwrestles SJK until SJK thumbs Aramis in the eyes. Dirty boy! Announcer Jake Black actually gives us a little knowledge by stating that SJK’s legal first name is “Sterling.” SJK is that good…at birth. SJK decides to prove that he's great by hitting a corner assisted lung blower. Aramis, showing some heart, made a roaring comeback, hitting his split leg moonsault. The comeback didn’t last too long after SJK turned Aramis’ momentum against him, unleashing a fireman’s carry into an over the knee back breaker, followed by an Arn Anderson spine buster. Just when SJK thought he had it all wrapped up, Aramis pulled out his Next Generation Vertabreaker (a move that starts off like a vertical suplex, turning into a hangman’s neck breaker on the way down) to pin SJK. You know what they always say: Dangerous Move + Inexperienced Rookie=Great Finishing Move!

After some DVD plugs, we cut to The Best Around (TJ Cannon and Bruce Maxwell), who are “fired up” and “perturbed” over the fact that The New Jersey All Stars (Lucky and Orange Cassidy) called themselves “The Best Around.” Tonight, we find out who is “The Best Around.” (cue arm circle motion to visualize that quote)

A video hyping the main event between The Best Around and The New Jersey All Stars to determine who is “The Best Around” as well as who will face the Tag Team champions, All Money Is Legal (K-Murda and K-Pusha) is shown. The video’s music is backed by Joe Esposito’s “You're the Best Around.” Every time I hear that song I think about that episode of South Park where Stan’s dad beats up the other dad’s during the little league games.

The New Jersey All Stars vs. The Best Around

“Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy officially has the best nickname since “Above Average” Mike Sanders. The Best Around comes out to…you guessed it, “You’re The Best Around.” Awesome. Jake Black is having a fit over the fact that his favorite teams are fighting in this history-making match. Kind of cool to see teams dressing alike. Even cooling that they have team names. It’s just like the 80’s. I was actually surprised by this one. The Best Around looked like heels, but wrestled like babyfaces, while The NJ All Stars looked like babyfaces, and wrestled like heels…weird.

The Best Around was able to make the comeback after being dominated when TJ back dropped Lucky over the top, face first into the top of the ring steps. Bruce Maxwell decided to outdo his partner with a double stomp off the top on Orange, who was stuck against the ropes. Sweet, Marco Polo by The Best Around leads to a tope on “Freshly Squeezed.” That might be a wrestling first. A TKO by Bruce on Lucky takes the ref down. By the time another referee makes it in, everything has broken loose. In opposite corners, Lucky takes it to Bruce while Orange gets dropped by TJ. In easily the move of the night, Lucky and TJ execute stereo 450 splashes on Bruce and Orange respectively.

Controversy ensues when the other ref wakes up, causing a double count. Who is the winner? Who is “The Best Around?”

Jake Black and Dan Cowhey are back to tell us that the main event was officially a draw, and both teams will face All Money Is Legal at Haunted. They follow that up by running down the Haunted card, leading to another music video that highlights the PWU title change from Adam Flash to John McChesney in a ladder match. The video shifts to the return of Kashmere and crew, highlighting the main event of Haunted.

Unplugged Turned On : Overall, that was a pretty fun hour. The first half was really just a promotional tool for the Haunted show, as well as to reintroduce SJK, and keep Aramis strong. The second half picked up the pace with a nice tag main event that was better than anything on the big two right on free TV. Both teams were energetic, athletic, and most importantly, charismatic. They didn’t do too much too early, keeping the big spots for last, making the end that much more enjoyable. A solid hour of wrestling that definitely made me get excited about Haunted, and the fall out from it.
