Hello my Gathering!  It's rather ironic that tonight is Royal Rumble night.  You see, if you recall a few years back, Vinny McMahon blew out his quads when Cena & Batista buggered up the finish and Vince stomped out to the ring.  And after this weekend's shenanigans heading up and down the MEN Arena steps and walking round Manchester afterwards, my quads pretty much know exactly how Vince's quads felt that night.

So yes, the Road To Wrestlemania really does kick off tonight with The Royal Rumble Event.  Really, hasn't anyone else notived that they haven't called it a "PPV", but an "Event"?  I mean, I got a few e-mails eager to point out that they had a HBK/Rey match in the booked, thanks to the Eddie Tribute RAW, even though on Smackdown, they always billed it as the "first time ever on Smackdown" or some such, not their first match ever, period.  So you, since pedantry is the watchword of the day it seems, thought I'd flag it up.

But hey, this year is pretty open wide.  Usually, there's only one or two guys who can win it, but this year, there's a number of ways they can go, and that's discounting the possibilities of a Rey-like dark horse winning it, so it should be pretty darn exciting if a killer to try and recap!

Anyway. I'll catch you all later as the start time approaches for the show!
Well, after my PC decided to have a heart attack when I fired up my modem, here's hoping things hold out, especially since The Rumble is always a horror to real time.  But hey, I do have my laptop and hopefully some mobile broadband as a back up, so on that note, here we go!

A long and dusty road greets us as the show starts.  It's a ROAD to Wrestlemania you see.  And Phoenix is hot and dusty.  Who will get there as a champion?  And who will be The One?  This leads to hype for our two main title matches and then the Rumble itself.  Has to be said, this PPV's theme song has really grown on me.  Has that Evanescence feel to it.

Not much to the set this year.  Just has that tunnel vision sort of thing that has been the graphics for the show.  Cole welcomes us to the show.

Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson in a "What's the Over/Under on bible references for this one?" match for the ECW Heavyweight Title
And Cole talks first, and he has, once again, Lawler & Striker.  Josh & Byron getting no love again.  That said, my bible reference thing probably really kicks in since Striker's on the call.  They talk about how long Christian has had the title.  That smells like a kiss of death to me.  If kisses have have smells, that is.

Jackson comes out with Regal, so he could end up being a factor in this.  Christian's first move is to clap.  Then go for a lock up which he loses as Jackson easily shoves him down.  Cole runs down the man-stats on Jackson's body.  Jackson backs up Christian on a waistlock, but then break it himself and dumps Christian down.  Zeke trash talks, so Christian slaps him in the chops, leading to a foot race.  Christian catches Jackson with a dropkick, before hitting the double jump crossbody to the outside.  Back in the ring, Christian ducks clotheslines, but a whip is blocked and turned into a slam.  Zeke with clubbing blows.  Jackson with a whip across the corners.  Christian looks for the Killswitch, but it's blocked and Jackson presses him.  Christian slip[s out and dumps Jackson on the ropes and chokes him before slapping him again.  Christian climbed the ropes, but Big Zeke pulled him off.  Christian fell outside, and Regal looked to take advantage, but the ref caught him and ejected Regal!

Jackson shoves Christian into the ringsteps, but only picked up a 2 count in the ring.  Neck Vice by Jackson.  Christian broke but was hit with something akin to a chokeslam for a 2 count.  Delayed suplex by Zeke for another 2 count.  Jackson works The Peepmeister over in the ropes, before hitting some shots to the lower back.  The sunset flip was countered with the Khali Bomb for another 2 count.  Ezekiel locks in a chinlock, but Christian's up, and again, making with the BITCHSLAPS~!.  However, a HARD shot to the hack of the neck was worth another 2 count.  Jackson put Christian up top, and looked for a superplex, but Christian fought him off.  He then hit a flying European uppercut.  Jackson was up first though.  He missed a charge and Christian ran up again for a missile dropkick for 2.  Christian looked for support before looking to finish again, but Jackson was having none of it.  A bad reverse DDT saw Christian go up for a big splash, but it missed and a LARIATO~! (Called by Striker) scored another 2.  The Uranage was blocked, but the Killswitch was shoved off again and a Jackson backbreaker scored another 2 count.

Christian hit the leaning kick in the corner and then a Tornado DDT.  He only scored a deuce for that though.  Christian called for a finish but was hti with a clothesline for another 2.  Stiker noted Vince won the title in the ATL, which Cole wanted to forget.  A couple of reversals led to a Christian sleeper.  However, Jackson herked him over.  Christian slipped out and the Killswitch was engaged for the three count!

WINNER & STILL CHAMPION:  CHRISTIAN

Pretty fun opener there.  Better than I expected anyway.

We cut backstage to Teddy Long and Tiffany.  Cryme Tyme wander in.  There's 2 of them, but there's only one spot for them.  Long suggests what they did last year, and toss a coin.  CT say they got someone to give up their spot.  They bringin Khali and say that if Khali gives up his spot, he gets to kiss Tiffany.  However, given the opportunity, Khali still can't bring himself to get in the match.  The Indians then out-gangsta Cryme Tyme.  They all mock the Brooklynites.  REALLY?  Yes, as Miz wanders in and wonders that.  He said in 5 years, they'll be talking about him winning the Rumble.

Long said that there were no guest hosts tonight, so he called RAW's shots.  And so, not only is he in the Rumble, but he's defending against MVP TONIGHT AS WELL!  Indeed, it's NEXT!

We cut to Randy Orton as Cody came in and said that he and Ted knew he could beat Sheamus.  Cody said he'd be there for Randy.  However, Cody didn't just leave, so Randy knew somehting was up.  Cody said he wasn't sure about Ted.  He hasn't been the samesince The Marine came out.  And all he's talking about is winning the Rumble and beating Orton for the title.  SQUEALER!  But Cody said Orton could count on him.

The Miz vs. MVP in a "So inpromptu, I don't have a comedy line for it" match for the US Title
Miz tries hiding behind the ref for a short spell before catching MVP with a kick.  But a clothesline form MVP scores a quick count.  Montel scores with a suplex for another very quick fall.  Whip into the corner by MVP, but the charge is blocked, although he was caught with a back drop and then a back suplex for a quick 2 count.  Miz took a powder, but MVP was in a chasing mood, catching Miz with a punch before dropping him on the guardrail.  Miz kicked off MVP and sent him out, before bouning him into the announce desk, while the announcers made fun of Lawler for getting Sherri Shepard's name wrong.  Back in the ring, Miz began stomping away, before hitting a leg drop.  He began working over the back and then the ribs before laying in shots in the corner.  Miz's corner clothesline connected before Miz went up top.  He hit a double sledge for another 2 count.  Chinlock by the champion.

MVP got back up to his feet, and out before the traded some shots.  MVP tossed Miz up in the air before hitting some back elbows and his facebuster off the knee.  BALLIN'~! elbow connected.  However, the Playmaker was blocked.  MVP hit a big boot for 2 though.  Miz rolled to the apron and snapped MVP off the top rope.  Miz's knee lift missed and MVP hit the POUNCE~! (Again, Striker called it) for another 2 count.  Miz's finish was turned into a rollup for 2.  MVP backslide scored 2.  Jacknife scored another 2 for Porter.  Miz escaped to the outside again.  MVP brought him back in, but Miz caught him with an inside cradle as MVP came back in for the three count.

WINNER & STILL CHAMPION:  THE MIZ

Miz got in MVP's face with the bragging, so MVP hit the Playmaker on Miz, and my ears may decieve me, but it was booed...

TO THE BACK~! again, as we join Big Show, who approaches Jericho.  Jericho wants to talk.  Show knows why.  Chris is jealous.  Of what?  What Show said about Miz.  Jericho said he wasn't jealous.  He felt sorry for Show.  Miz was using Show for his own agenda.  Show knew this.  Kinda like what Jericho did.  Jericho said the pair of them were great.  Jericho said if it came tdown to the two of them and Miz in the Rumble, he knew which way Show would swing, but Show said he was only loyal to himself.  Truth came in and said if Show didn't throw Jericho out, he would.  Jericho made threats using Show, but he had disappeared.  Turth said it would be every man for himself.  Jericho said he'd main event Mania.

Orton walked the halls, as Ted DiBiase approached and wished him luck.  Ted said he didn't know where Cody was. Hell, he couldn't talk to him lately.  Cody said he was winnign the Rumble and facing Sheamus at Mania.  Orton said he was seconds away from taking back his title.  And he didn't want neither of them helping him.

RAW advert.  GM tomorrow night?  THE SHATNER!  And also, of course, Bret's back again.

Sheamus vs. Randy Orton in a "A heel vs. heel match?  Man, that's so twisted, I'd half expect a babyface vs. babyface match at some point tonight!" match for the WWE Heavyweight Title
Oddly, the champion is out first, as it served to show him taking Orton out a few weeks ago.  When Orton followed, we saw the RKO doled out on Monday.  As they both came out, the announcers actually had an interesting discussion about the match, largely thanks to Matt Striker.  He's damned awesome.  DAMNED awesome, I tells ya!  We get some main event intros.  Striker noted the title had never changed hands in Atlanta.  GO ON YOU PEDANTS!  SEE IF HE'S WRONG!  The bell rings and we seem to have a slight dueling chant going, but a "Randy!" chant takes over that.  Orton's shoved off a side headlock, but hits a dropkick.  Orton slithered, which sent Sheamus back a few steps, wary of the RKO.  They lock up again, and it ends up in the ropes..  Orton with an uppercut, but Sheamus immediately hits a hard forearm, before yanking on the shoulder toi the point it sent Orton out.  Sheamus worked him over on the outside, before ramming the arm off the steel steps.  Back in the ring, Sheamus wrung the arm and drove the elbow into it.Orton slipped out a powerslam and he went after the left leg of the Irish Curse.  He pulled Sheamus into the centre of the ring and dropped a knee for a quick 2 count.  Orton put on a spinning toe hold, continuing the leg work.  Sheamus was able to kick him off though.  Sheamus then sent Orton, shoulder-first, into the corner a couple of times.  SOS then drove a shoulder into the gut of Orton a couple of times.  Sheamus smiled, but Orotn blocked the charge and went back to targeting the leg.  He pulled Sheamus's legs to the apron and rammed the knee of the edge of the ring, before ramming it into the ringpost.  Sheamus fell out the ring as Orton rolled in.

Orton rolled Sheamus back in to break the count before pondering his next move.  However, Sheamus caught Randy with an armbar takedown for a 2 count.  Sheamus then locked in an armbar, also driving the knee into the side of Randy's head.

Orton tried to get out, but Sheamus kept changing the hold to suit, ending up in a keylock.  Orton got back to his feet and finally broke the hold.  They had a slugfest, with the crowd on Orton's side.  Orton scored with a big uppercut.  However, Sheamus caught him with what he used to call The Firey Red Hand, the backbreaker on the knee.  Sheamus called for a finish, and looked for the powerbomb, but Orton slipped out and kicked the knee and then the head, sending Sheamus out the ring.  As Sheamus climbed back in, Orton scored with the elevated DDT.  However, Sheamus grabbed the rope at 2.  Orton stood over Sheamus before stepping back.  However, the punt he was going for was avoided when Sheamus rolled out.  However, when orotn gave chase, he was sent into the ringpost again.  As Sheamus rolled Orotn back in, Cody attacted him!  Orton hit the RKO, btu the referee rang the bell, before telling the ring announcer that Orton has been DQ'ed.

WINNER BY DQ & STILL CHAMPION:  SHEAMUS

The finish helped the angle.  But it didn't help the match.

After the decision, Cody begged forgiveness to his leader.  The crowd chanted LOUDLY for the RKO.  Orton decked Cody, yelling at him.  Ted DiBiase ran in to break it up.  However, Orton decked him as well.  Wasn't swerve though.  Orton was just fed up with them both.  However, behind Orotn, Sheamus was up again, and Orton turned around into a bicycle kick from the Irishman.  Sheamus left the ring as Ted & Cody wondered what the hell to do.  Well, the one thing they did do was that they left Randy lying and offered no help.

Don't try this at home ad.  Funny how Rey is in it and needs surgery, and Cena's in it and was takern out the previous match and Orton put in because of a slight injury and indeed, Cena's working tonight as well.

Thanks to Fozzy.  No mention of their famous lead singer.

The announcers talk about the next match, sending it to a video recapping some of the feud from when Mickie became the No.1 Contender.

Michelle McCool vs. Mickie James in a "Can Mickie put an end to Michelle's fat jokes?  And hey, if she does, will the belt go round her waist?" match for the WWE Womens Title
Michelle came out first, and she had a promo to cut.  She said that she was right there int he ring, about to give them waht they paid for.  Her!  Defending her title, of course, since that's what she always did.  But Mickie wasn't here.  If she was, you wouldn't be able to miss her.  After some more fat jokes, she decided that Mickie had decided to forfeit.  Mickayla came out again with the fat suit and pig nose again.  however, as she got to ringside, Mickie's music kicked in and she ran down and took out Mickayla.  She tossed the padded Layla into the ringpost before getting in the ring.  Layla got on the apron, but Mickie avoided Michelle's attack and hti the DDT within second to win the title!!!

WINNER & NEW WOMENS CHAMPION:  MICKIE JAMES!

Layla got in the ring to check on Michelle but Mickie kicked her down.  The rest of the babyface divas came out with a big cake, and Mickie put it in their faces for the ultimate humiliation!  With the two heels covered in cake, the other babyface divas celebrated.  PERFECT way to end this angle.

Elimination Chamber PPV advert.  All about HHH.  Well, he has done a lot of killing in there.

We went backstage to Rey Mysterio as he crossed himself for luck.  This sent it to a hype video.  Well, they need to stall since there's a lot of cake in the ring right now.

The Undertaker vs. Rey Mysterio in a "Hey look, they did book a babyface vs. babyface match!" match for the World Heavyweight Title
Rey out first, and then many hours later, Undertaker joined him in the ring.  As a note, as Rey waited for Taker, behind him, there was a sign that seemed to have a full lighting system wired into it, as it was blinking!  Sweet Christ, that's awesome.  Your usual start to a Mysterio vs. Big Man match with Rey using his speed early on, picking and choosing his shots.  He lands some shots in the corner, but Taker grabbed him and tossed him out.  TAKER WINS THE RUMBLE!  Oh wait, that's the next match...

Rey cautiously climbs up the steps and catches Taker coming over, but a springboard attempt is punched down back to the floor.  Taker set up for the apron leg drop, but Rey rolled out the way.  But Taker scouted it and put Rey in position again, hitting it the second time of asking.  Taker called for the chokeslam, but Rey managed to get the headscissors and put Taker in 619 position.  Taker caught him and looked for the Tombstone, but Rey kneed his way out of it.  An elbow drop by Taker missed.  A Rey springboard crossbody was booted down by the Phenom.  Rey rolled out the ring to try and recover.  However, Taker left the ring too and hit Rey with a pair of big boots.  A third missed though and Taker kinda crotched himself around the ringpost.  Rey then dropkicked the prone leg.  Rey then jumped off the apron for another headscissors.  Hwoever, Taker caught him and looked for a Last Ride, but Rey coutnered and hit an Asai Moonsault.  The ref counted, but Rey was in first.  Taker's got a bloody nose.  Rey looked for a baseball slide, but Taker sidestepped it and shoved Mysterio hard into the guardrail.  Oddly enough, they haven't sent anyone out to stop the match.  That said, he's not bleeding a gusher.

Back in the ring, Taker worked the arm, lifting Rey in the air by the arm before dropping him on the top rope.  Lawler was surprised to see Taker bleed.  I kinda am as well in these times.  Taker began to work over Rey in the corner.

Rey was whipped off the rope and hit with a big side slam for a 2 count.  Taker picked Rey up, and while Mysterio kicked at the legs, Taker shoved him down again.  Mysterio scored with a jawbreaker before getting the boots up on a charge and a reverse DDT.  Taker sat up on that, but was hit with a basement dropkick.  Rey then dropped the dime for a 2 count.  Rey bounced off the ropes, but was hit with a clothesline.  Taker set for another Last Ride, and this time, Rey slipped out again and set for the 619.  This time the 619 hit and he hit a springboard dropkick and again hit the 619.  But this springboard in was turned into a HUGE Last Ride for the win.

WINNER & STILL CHAMPION:  THE UNDERTAKER

Really fun match here.

We went backstage to see Shawn's reaction as Kane came in and said HBK's obsession with his brother was creepy.  POT!  KETTLE!  BLACK!  Kane said as the only person to face Taker at Mania twice, in the end, there's only darkness.  HHH came in and said it was a big night and he wished Shawn good luck.  Michaels apoloigsed for last week and said he didn't have any right to step on Hunter's dream.  HHH felt the same way.  However, HBK said him and Undertaker was meant to be.  HHH said he knew that, that how Shawn would find another way.

Wrestlemania 26 advert.  Song sounds like that "Let It Rock" guy with the auto-tune.  It's 56 days away.

We saw pictures from the ATL, before joining the announcers, as they sent it to the "By The Numbers" video.

The 30 Man Royal Rumble match
Heaven help me for the next hour...

Justin Roberts announces 90 second intervals.  It just gets worse for me.

#1 is...  DOLPH ZIGGLER

And #2 is...  EVAN BOURNE

The pair trash talk while looking at the Mania sign in the distance.  Evan kicks at the legs but a whip is reversed.  Bourne scores a headscissors and jumping heel kick.  However, Ziggler pounds Bourne in the corner, and nearly dropkicks him out, but Evan hangs on.  Evan scores with the double knees, but east uppercut.  Bourne gets Ziggler over, but Dolph rolled back in and hit the ZigZag.  Dolph trossed Evan, but he hung on and kicked Ziggler down and hit the SSP!

#3 is... CM PUNK!

He comes out with Serena.  Punk goes to work on Bourne and Ziggler, clotheslining both of them out immeidately!  Serena got a mic and Punk managed ot find time to cut a promo climing he'd win, sayign they were the first of 29.  However, as he talked, the timer ran down.

#4 is... JTG

JTG ran wild on Punk early, but Punk countered the Mug Shot and dumped JTG over the top.  He grabbed the mic again to talk some more.  Not everyone could win the match, just liek some couldn't be saved.  He's be the first ever Straight Edge Rumble winner.

#5 is...  The Great Khali

Punk begged off Khali on the mic as he came down the aisle.  He said he could save Khali and make him greater.  He got Khali to raise his hand for an oath, but Khali chopped him down and locked in the vice.

#6 is... BETH PHOENIX?????

Yes, Beth ran into the ring and got in Khali's face.  He picked her up and over the rope to the apron.  She grabbed him, kissed and pulled him over the top to the floor!  Beth then went to work on PunK!!!  She looked to dump him, but he countered and hit the GTS on Phoenix!

#7 is..  ZACH RYDER

Punk eliminated Beth as Punk offered him the chance to convert, but then clocked him with the microphone.  Ryder was tossed.

Punk, now entirely cocky, begged for the next person to come out.

#8 is... TRIPLE H

Game Over for Punk, me thinks...  They went nose to substantial nose, before HHH went to work on him.  He hit the facebuster off the knee.  Punk reversed the whip and hit the knee in the corner, but the bulldog was countered with the AA Spinebuster.

#9 is...  DREW McINYTRE

Drew took the slow walk out.  Indeed, he ended up stopping.  HHH begged him to come in, and Drew obliged.  Drew was hit with the Harley Race knee.  Punk countered the Pedigree into the GTS, but HHH slipped out and tossed Punk!

Drew scored with a back elbow and worked over Hunter.

Morrison ran in and went after Ted first before tackling Drew down.  Moonlight Drive was shoved off, but Morrison hit a whirling DDT.  Ted attacked JoMo, laying him out and booting him.  Dream Street was blocked and Morrison hit the Pele.  Starship Pain on McIntyre.

Kane went right up top to hit the flying clothesline on HHH before hitting everything in sight.  Double chokeslam for Drew & JoMo.  Shots for HHH & Ted.  Kane looked to herk DiBiase out, but HHH made something of a save.  However, he was hit with a chokeslam.

#13 is...  CODY RHODES

Cody saved ted from Kane before going after HHH.  A short clothesline for Drew.  Cody elevated Morrison over, butMorrison landed on the apron.  A springboard in my John was met with a Cody dropkick.  Kane does after McIntyre.  HHH almost tossed Cody, but he hung on.

#16 is... THE MIZ

Miz hit the Skull Crushing Finale on Carlito, when MVP ran in after him and he took out Miz and himself, as they kept on brawling at ringside!  Legacy almost had HHH out as Morrison tried to get Drew out.  Carlito hung on after HHH tossed him.

#17 is... MATT HARDY

The guy who ran away from a bust went after anyone standing, but went up and got shoved out by Kane.  However Kane then tossed by HHH!  AA Spinebusters for everyone around.  Drew saved Cody from a Pedigree with a chop block.

#18 is... SHAWN MICHAELS

Carlito was gone as soon as HBK came in.  HBK tossed Cody.  Ted made it three at Shawn's hands.  He chopped McIntyre  before hitting the flying forearm.  Morrison missed the Flying Chuck on HBK and Michaels tossed him.  Knee lift by HBK for Drew as DX playing ping pong with him before clotheslingin Drew out.  DX were now all alone.  For 8 seconds.

#19 is...  JOHN CENA

BUSINESS PICKED UP, BITCHES!  Cena knocks everyone before hitting a double Five-Knuckle Shuffle!  Cena looked to eliminate HBK, but HHH saved and hit the Pedigree.  However HBK Superkicked HHH out of the match!

#20 is... SHELTON BENJAMIN

Shelton worked over HBK & Cena, before hitting Paydirt on HBK.  He looked to do the same on Cena, but Cena caught him and dumped him.  HBK hit a back suplex.

#21 is...  YOSHI TATSU

Yoshi went after both men, but was quickly eliminated by Cena.  Cena & HBK continued to go at it.  HBK with chops, but Cena hit the bulldog.

#22 is...  BIG SHOW

Big Show actually ran into the ring, hitting headbutts to both men.  Big Show got Shawn on the apron, but he hung onto Show as Cena tried to help.  Cena came in and got Shawn over, but he skinned the cat and Big Show dumped him back in.

Edge then takes down HBK & Cena again.  Crowd are HUGE for Edgeward Tedgeward.

#30 is...  BATISTA

Batista SPRINTED down to the aisle and we have our final four.  I got three of them right.  Batista with spinebusters for everyone that moves.  Edge with a Spear to Dave.  Cena with the FU to Edge.  HBK with  the forearm to Cena.  Atomic drop and chop down to Cena.  Same for Batista.  Scoop slams for both.  HBK went up top with the elbow on Cena.  Enziguri to Batista was followed by the flying elbow to him as well.

Shawn tuned up the band again.  Superkick for Cena.  Superkick for Batista.  Edge clotheslines HBK over and both are on the apron.  HBK kicks Edge back in and Batista knocks HBK off.  HBK IS OUT!!!!

Everything stops a moment while it all sinks in.  Shawn is CRUSHED by it.  He wants to get back in and tosses a referee down before sliding back in.  Charles Robinson tries to reason with him, but he gets superkicked as more referees show up and Shawn collapses.  The crowd give him something of an ovation as he leaves and gets mad.

Batista is finally up and he eyes Cena.  He looks to powerbomb him, but Cena backdrops out and looks for the FU, but that's countered.  Batista charges and Cena low bridges him out!

Edge sets for a spear as Cena tries to recover.  But I sense Cena feels it.  While he counters the spear, Edge manages to toss Cena!!!

WINNER & WRESTLEMANIA TITLE SHOT WINNER...MOTHERF**KING EDGE!!!!!

Wow.  I can't quite believe it.  I had that final four almost right right up until the end. with Batista putting HBK out and then Cena getting Batista out, but that was it.  Cena wins there.  Right now, that has put a HUGE cat amongst the pigeons, because I figured it would be Edge vs. Jericho in a high, but midcard match.  We truly do not know what the WWE are going for now.  But I tell you something.  I'm sure as hell excited to find out!!!  So with that said, I'll ltake my leave and let you all come down from that amazing ending to a pretty good show.
