Hello and welcome to the TNA Lockdown report, I am your host RDLee. I didn't get a chance to watch the show last night but I wanted to run down the highlights of each match and give my honest feedback whether it's positive or negative. I haven't been watching TNA lately so please bare with me if I am not up to date on the current storylines.
-
Rob Van Dam v.s. "Cowboy" James Storm
I'm not too sure that this should have been on PPV but it's a solid opener to say the least. I really wish Van Dam would have went back to WWE instead because TNA has dropped the ball with him already. I'm not sure who wants to see AJ Styles v.s. The Pope when they have dream matches in RVD/Styles and Styles/Hardy sitting right on their doorstep. No offense to the Pope of course but he isn't the star they are yet.
This match was to determine which team would get the upper hand in the main event bout between Team Hogan and Team Flair with the first man advantage. RVD picked up the win after hitting his Five Star Frog Splash.
Winner: RVD
-
X-Division X-Cape Match
Chris Sabin v.s. Alex Shelley v.s. Homicide v.s. The Brian Kendrick
The first person to escape the cage gets to join Frankie Kazarian and Shannon Moore on the X-Division title match later in the show. Slendid... What a waste.
I am so sick of the MCMG's getting thrown into these random matches when they are a TEAM! This is one of the reasons I don't watch TNA anymore, hell, most of the TNA guys themselves are sick of this crap too from what I know.
It's ashame because this is a talent heavy match but no one cared. It was said to be a short match clocking in at under 5 minutes long which is a joke in itself. Homicide tricked Kendrick and snuck out to win the match.
Winner: Homicide
-
Kevin Nash v.s. Eric Young
I really don't even want to comment on this match at all. I don't like Eric Young, I know he tries hard and I respect that but the man is just not cut out to be a badass like he thinks he is. Even I could beat him in a match.... no joke, I really bet I could.... honestly.... seriously.... I swear..... if you want ratings, then make it happen TNA!!!
This was another waste of time as Young fell short in his quest to prove himself to Nash. Big Sexy put him away in a few short minutes with a big time Jackknife Powerbomb. God, I hate TNA now, it used to be so good...
Winner: Kevin Nash
-
TNA Knockouts Title Match?
Tara and Angelina Love v.s. The Beautiful People
I miss Awesome Kong, that is all. Other than that I have no comments on any Knockout or Diva matches as they are not my cup of tea. Madison Rayne won the Knockout's title somehow when she pinned Tara after Lacey Von Erich broke into the cage and smacked Tara across the head with the title belt.
Winners: The Beautiful People (and New Knockout Champion Madison Rayne)
-
X-Division Championship match
Kazarian v.s. Shannon Moore v.s. Homicide
Homicide earned his way into the match after winning the 4 way earlier. Doug Williams was stripped on the title after getting stuck over in the UK from the volcano that happened there??? REALLY? How stupid is that!
TNA makes no sense anymore. I give up on this crap. Kaz won the title and I could care less. He is a great performer but is stuck in moron land right now. Too bad, I used to think he could be TNA's version of HBK if they played his cards right. Oh well...
Winner and NEW X-Division Champion - Kazarian
-
Team 3-D v.s. The Outsiders
Now this is a match that could have drew BIG money about 10 years ago... Even now if Scott Hall was in better shape it could still have worked for TNA. However, Sean Waltman no-showed (personal reasons apparently) and Kevin Nash took his place marking his second match of the night. Hall looked rough out there and Nash and Dudley's did everything they could to entertain the fans.
Another short match that ended after Team 3-D put Scott Hall through a table for the win. The crowd was actually into this match believe it or not. I wonder if we will see a rematch with the Nasty Boys thrown in for a three way? LOL.
Winners: Team 3-D
-
Kurt Angle v.s. Mr. Anderson
This was the match of the night according to many and rightfully so. Angle went out of his way to make Ken a star tonight. Kurt said he is set to take some time off after this match to heal up and rest before helping TNA make it to the next level.... Good luck with that Kurt because it's never gonna happen. If Hulk Hogan can't do it, then Kurt Angle most certainly can't...
This match had it all, blood, technical wrestling, submissions, high spots (Moonsault off the top of the cage!!!), and foreign object blows. The crowd even chanted "This is Awesome" (like they always do) and it was clearly a Match of the Year contender for TNA, but it was not better than HBK/Taker 2 of course. Kurt won the match after he choked Anderson out with his Medal and hit a low blow before exiting the cage.
Winner: Kurt Angle
-
TNA World Championship
The Pope D'Angelo Dinero v.s. AJ Styles
The crowd was hot for this match as The Pope is really over in the Impact Zone. AJ got decent heat too but he doesn't seem to work as a heel for me personally. Flair was ordered to the back by the ref after he got into it with him.
I'm not sold that this is a championship caliber match at this point but I rarely watch TNA so I can't say for sure if it matters. AJ had to cheat to win when he reached through a hole in the cage for the camera and grabbed a pen? He stabbed Pope in the head with it and hit a Styles Clash for the win. Solid match, but wasn't great.
Winner: AJ Styles
-
Team Hogan v.s. Team Flair - Lethal Lockdown Match
This match is gonna be a mess so I will try my best to cover it and not miss anything. Abyss started the match off for Team Hogan against Robert Roode from Team Flair. RVD entered next as Abyss was getting beat down. Desmond Wolfe evened the odds a few minutes later until Jeff Jarrett came in and cleaned house giving the babyfaces the advantage.
James Storm came in selling the effects of his earlier match next. We cut backstage to see Jeff Hardy get layed out by Sting and his baseball bat when he was supposed to be the next man out. Sting came out and lowered some weapons down from the ceiling to help his team beat Team Hogan down more brutally. At this point, the match was a nightmare and there were clearly too many people in the ring.
Abyss poured thumbtacks on the ground as Storm hit him with a beer bottle as Jeff Hardy finally made his way out to the ring to even the odds for his team and began his assault on Team Flair. Inside the cage, the babyfaces began to hit their signature moves as Beer Money chased Jeff to the roof of the cage and beat him down 2 on 1 for a minute until Jeff recovered and hit a Twist of Face on Roode to pop the crowd. Hardy then followed up by leaping off a ladder onto Storm who was laying on a table to take Beer Money and himself out of the match.
Ric Flair then hit the ring as everyone was layed out and tried to get the Hall of Fame ring off of Abyss. Hulk Hogan came out to stop Flair and Eric Bishoff stopped him. Bishoff teased tossing brass knuckles to Flair before throwing them to Hogan who clobbered Flair with them causing his to fall on the thumbtacks and over sell the shit out of it. Suddenly out of no where Abyss hits a Blackhole Slam on Desmond Wolfe to win the match for his team. What a nightmare-ish mess of a main event. It had it's moments but overall it wasn't fluid and lacked a worthwhile finish. Thank god this show is over as I am ready to do something else. Thanks for joining me and have a good one!
Winners: Team Hogan
