IT'S WRESTLE-FREAKIN'-MANIA BABY! Tonight's the mackdaddy of all wrestling shows for the year, as it's (ALMOST) time for the 25th edition of Wrestlemania, and Aaron James Hugo Montague Wimbim-Smythe Laura Nakamura Ockavango Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo Wood has you covered! Seems odd that I'm less than three years older than this show. I would write a bunch of predictions right now, but I did that on Friday when I got gypped out of Smackdown, so you can check them out here. Aaron's UnReal Time Smackd...Oh Wait...No It's Not... Either way, here is the card for tonight (in the apparent running order, as leaked by the PPV provider in Australia): IC Title - Rey Mysterio vs. JBL Money In The Bank (What did I say on Friday? It's almost always second on!) Piper, Snuka & Steamboat vs. Jericho Tag Titles - The Colons vs. Miz & Morrison Hardy vs. Hardy 25-Diva Battle Royal(e) World Title - Cena vs. Edge vs. Big Show HBK vs. The Undertaker WWE Title - HHH vs. Randy Orton Now, for a little music to keep you all entertained while I mix some drinks (well, tea and milk are both drinks you mix...) and get some biscuits, here's one I've been sitting on especially for tonight. It's a song from a British band called Hot Chip, who are into electric bleeps and beats and stuff. However, on their most recent album, there was something of a ballad, and this is the video for it. It's simply entitled "Wrestlers"... Lovely, huh? Also, just to get you in a fighting mood, and hopefully some goosebumps, given that the Wrestlemania opening videos are universally awesome but since I can't show you this year's, for obvious reasons, here is last year's video. Anyway, that's all I got for how, but we're now less than 90 minutes away from the biggest show of the year. Can you smell it? Well, I'm sorry. I had some beans for my dinner... What? Can't a guy end on a fart joke??? 18:00/23:00 UPDATE - The WWE have confirmed that The Miz & Morrison vs. Colon Brothers match will now be a pre-show/DVD only match! I would like to swear rather a lot right now, but it is (sort of) a family site... 18:50/23:50 UPDATE - Ugh...So the WWE doesn't even have the common courtesy to stream the Tag Titles match on WWE.com. There'd better be highlights... I'll try and get results ASAP. 18:55/23:55 UPDATE - The results are actually in! And your NEW~! Unified Tag Champions are... THE COLONS!!! Primo over Morrison. The adverts are running on my TV now, so we're just MOMENTS away... Here! We! GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our opening video starts with shots of various Mania arenas. Vince opened by saying he'd been asked about the greatest Wrestlemania moment ever, leading to a whole bunch of people giving their answers. Cena's for Hogan/Andre, as is Show. Edge was Mania 6. Well, he was there. Rey & Morrison plump for the HBK/Razor ladder match. Punk is Bret vs. Owen. MVP is Hogan/Rock. HBK himself picks his title win against Bret. This led to the guys saying that it was where they wanted to be, before looking quickly at the matches on tap for the night, giving them all equal time of a few seconds. Oddly enough, the last thing we see is Taker rolling his eyes. Your NEW~! Hall Of Famer, THE FINK~! introduces the Pussycat Doll for the Anthem. Not much going on with the stage tonight. Just a great big screen with the Wrestlemania star in front of it. Then again, I expect certain folks to have their entrances enhanced... Your woman does OK enough. She's a Pussycat Doll. You get what you pay for. PYRO & SO MUCH BALLYHOO!!! Your Tazzless announce crew for this evening is JR, Jerry Lawler & Vintage Michael Cole. CM Punk vs. Finlay vs. Mark Henry vs. Kofi Kingston vs. Kane vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. MVP vs. Christian in a "Well, when you take out a match, you knew the order would change..." Money In The Bank Ladder Match Punk makes his way out first as Cole takes control of the mic, as he formally introduces JR & Lawler. Punk decided to walk under EVERY ladder in the aisle. He can't be winning. Henry is next. And for the first time in A LONG LONG LONG LONG LONG time, they introduced Hugo & Carlos at the Spanish Table. Well, they need a second crew to break their table. MVP is next and he is BRIGHT RED. Finlay comes out next looking like an entirely cheap Mad Maz reject. Seriously, he looked like a tool. We get Gold next, with Shelton. Can he live up to everyone's "favourite" tag? Your THQ Games Champion, Kofi Kingston follows. Since he must play a lot of computer games, he's now officially f**ked. Christian makes his Wrestlemania return next. You wouldn't ever get these crowds in TNA, huh? Only Punk, so far, has walked under any ladders. It's a mistake I'm telling ya! Kane turns the stadium orange. Well, the lighting guys do. They all look up as the bell rings. Some fight, some opt to ladder-up. We're left with Kane & Mark Henry. Christian has a lot of vocal support early. Christian and Shelton use a ladder to down the pair before Kingston leaps over them and hits a dropkick. He then hits the double dropkick on the ladder with Cage & Benjamin underneath! However, it's Kane & Mark Henry who are first to climb a big ladder, although the field returns to entice them back down again and force them out the ring. A second ladder suddenly appears and the rest fight on them, but Kane & Henry tip those over. Kane goes for a climb, but Henry tips him over once he's recovered. Henry's along, but he folds the lader and threw it at Inflay. Finlay ducked though and he took out Henry's legs before hiutting a suicide dive onto Kane. Christian dived off the top onto them. MVP took a look and hit a rolling senton off the apron onto those three. Punk & Kofi are in the ring now. They stereo suicide dive out onto the four of them! Shelton climbs a big ladder on the outside and he swantons off down onto those on the floor! Mark Henry climbs up top to dive down, but Finlay saves everyone's life with a shillelagh shot. Hornswaggle makes an appearance with a tiny ladder. Finlay helps him up it and onto Henry's back so he can hit the Tadpole Splash onto the guys on the outside! Finlay uses the min-ladder to knock Henry down and goes for a big ladder. Kofi comes back in first, but he gets downed, only to come back with a jump and dropkick through the inside of the ladder. A splash in the corner meets Swaggle's ladder though. Punk comes in and is hit with the rolling Samoan drop. Finlay uses the mini-ladder to down Christian & Kane before setting the ladder up. Kofi tries to cut him off and at the second attempt hits a HIGH kick. However, Mark Henry tips Kofi over. Henry folds the ladderr and while standing with it tall, Kofi lept onto it and climbed up, but Henry took the ladder away and then hit a World's Strongest Slam on the ladder. MVP hit Henry with a ladder as he went to climb. MVP went up, but was cut off by Benjamin. MVP's ladder was set between the ladder and top rope. A suplex was blocked as was a head ram. Benjamin leaped to the horizontal ladder, but was caught by MVP with a powerbomb. MVP was close, but Punk climb up the other side. Christian pulled MVP down and then he cut off Punk. However, Punk tried to get Cage in GTS position. However, Christian reversed and hit the Unpriettier/Killswitch from the horizontal ladder. MVP climbed up, but Shelton contrived to climb three ladder from the floor to the middle to cut him off! AMAZING! Benjamin powerbombed MVP over the top onto Atlas & Henry. Benjamin climbed with Finlay. Shelton won the fist fight and Finlay landed on the laying ladder. Cage cut Shelton off, but Benjamin down him. Benjamin broke the ladder structure and set it up beside the main one. They met up top and changed ladders, only to tip over. Christian held his balence though and transferred back! Punk springboarded onot the ladder. But after a shot, Punk was tied up just like Jericho was last year when Punk stole the case! Kane climbed and chokeslammed Christian off the ladder. Punk righted himself and got his hands on the case. Kane looked to chokeslam, but Punk managed to kick him off! PUNK WINS!!!! WINNER - CM PUNK!!! That was AMAZING! You wonder how they can innovate every year, but by Christ, they manage it! Lawler pimped Slim Jim's while JR sent it to a Fan Axxess video. Lillian introduces Kid Rock, who starts playing. PIMP OF THE NATION Y'ALL! I'm betting the women are next, since it's his song that's soundtracking their match. The Divas come out for their match as Rock gets into So Hott. Told you... The 25-Diva "Too many to name, plus the fact that I don't know if the 25th person is Candice or not means that all I'll mention is that MOLLY FREAKING HOLLY is in there!!!!!" Miss Wrestlemania Battle Royal SWEEEEEETTT!!!! Molly Holly's back in the blonde pigtails!!! My life is complete! The match starts without introductions. It's one of those that doesn't have to be over the top. Mae Young and Candice are at ringside! Layla was bumped before Justin Roberts finished talking! Cole said the Divas were in a photoshoot on .com. I'm over there for a Molly ifx in the morning. Too much going to to mention. Jackie Gayda was bumped. Torrie Wilson took a hard bump oto the floor and was helped up by Jackie. Victoria eliminated Maria on camera, before Jillian almost got her out. Gail Kim and Jillian left together. Tiffany went over the top, thanks to Beth. Lawler was on form with the diva and Mae Young jokes. MOLLY HOLLY WAS SENT OUT! DAMN YOU!!!!! Santino cxlearly appeared in drag. So very obvious... Victoria was kicked out by a couple. We were left with Michelle, Mickie, Beth & Melina. And Santino. Michelle booted Mickie who was up top. Mickie blocked a superplex, but they both tumbled out. Melina hit Beth with a bulldog off the ropes. Beth put Melina up in the Bitch Clamp, but as she tried to tip Melina over, Santino shoved the piar out to win it! WINNER - SANTINO MARELLA! Santino tried to claim he was Santina Marella, Santino's twin from Italy... His/her reaction to Candice putting the crown and sash on Marella was PRICELESS!!! Santino proceeded to dance and shake his ass to the Kid Rock song... Up next, Jericho gets his. However, we irst get a video first profiling The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke and how it ended up with our match tonight thanks to Mickey's aborted challenge. Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Steamboat, Rowdy Roddy Piper & Superfly Jimmy Snuka in a "Well, it's really a 5 on 1..." 3-On-1 Handicap match We saw Mickey Rourke sitting at ringside at the corner of the aisle. Jericho entered first. Oddly, JR accused Lawler of changing his tune when he came out, but Lawler defended himself. Steamboat was the first one out for his team. He waited on stage for his partners. Snuka was next, followed by Roddy Piper. Then out came Flair. Unfortunately, he was still in a suit. The quartet went down together. Flair slapped hands with rourke as they went past. Piper started things off for his team, taking Jericho down, even clotheslining Jericho out the ring and going with him. Jerichos' head was rammed off the announce table, but Jericho got the jump on him coming back in. However, Piper scored a rollup for 2 and then scored with a one-legged dropkick!!! Piper dropped a "S" bomb as he took Jericho into the corner. Snuka demanded that Jericho's head was rammed into his, which Piper obliged. Snuka came in of the tag and hit the double chops before Steamboat came in and hit a crossbody, followed up by arm drags. Steamboat worked the arm, before working a wrist lock on the mat. Snuka tagged back in, and they hit stereo double chops. Headbutt by Snuka. However, Jericho caught him in the Walls Of Jericho, and Snuka tapped out. Jericho refused to break until Piper & Steamboat came in. He got a cheapshot in on Ricky, leaving him with Piper. Piper got the eye poke in, with Lawler telling Cole to call it "Vintage". Piper got the sleeper on, but jericho ule kicked him and hit an enziguri for the three count on Piper. Steamboat came in with crossbody for a nearfall. Jericho took control, looking to work the back as Flair looked on. Jericho locked on a cobra clutch-like hold, but Steamboat got back up and out of it. Ricky hit a shoulderblock and looked to be sent out,but as Jericho dealt with Flair, Ricky skinned the cat, elevated Jericho out and then pescadoed out on Jericho!!!!! Back in, Steamboat went up and hit an axe handle and chops. Whip reversed, but Steamboat flaoted over and rolled Jericho up for 2. Jericho came back with shots, but Ricky reversed a whip. HOwever, Jericho kciked the chest and hit the bulldog. The Lionsault missed however. Jericho blocked a corner charge and kicked Steamboat away although a powerslam scored another nearfall for the LEgends. Jericho went for the Walls Of Jericho and locked it on. However, Steamboat reversed with a cradle for a close 2 count. Codebreaker by Jericho after a reversed back upslex. However, it scored Jericho the three count! WINNER - CHRIS JERICHO! Flair decided he'd seen enough and got in the ring and worked Jericho over with a bunch of chops. Jericho hit a back drop though. As Flair got up, Jericho hit him with a Codebreaker. Jericho stood over Flair before kicking him from the ring. He looked over at Rourke and got a microphone. He said he was the best in the world at what he did, and he did what he said he'd do. But there was one more bit of business. Mickey rourke, who was sat beside Frank Shamrock, I believe. However, Jericho called him out, although Rourke motioned that he had a mouth on him. Jericho called him a liar and hypocrite. Jericho threatened to come to him, which got Rourke on hsi feet. His boys took his watches and stuff off, before going into the aisle. Rourke gauged the crowd's thoughts and they seemed to indicate he should go for it, so he took off his jacket. Mickey slowly climbed the steps and took off his hat. He stopped short of getting in the ring though. The crowd egged him on though and he got in the ring. The two met in the middle of the ring. Rourke threw some quick shots (well, he WAS a boxer!), which surprised Jericho. Jericho missed a shot, and Rourke scored with a shot to the back of Jericho's head! Flair got back in the ring and celebrated with his friend. A promo aired for the National Guard. The trio at ringside talked about the feud between the Hardy brothers. Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy in a "Shame Hogan's not on commentary so that finally his constant use of "Brother" makes sense..." Extreme Rules Match Justin Roberts explained the rules before Matt Hardy came out. Well, same music, but he had new attire of tights and a long coat. That's a little new, at least... Now, just for the sake of a haircut and new music, we'd be good to go. That's why I don't think so many buy the feud, because Matt is still essentially the same guy on the surface. His personality is supposed to have chance, but there's no real visual signifier of it. Jeff slapped Matt before tackling him down. It spilled out and Jeff found a poster which he broke on Matt's head. Jeff went back under and got a trash can, but Matt got the jump on him. However, Jeff reversed a head ram on the steps before hitting Poetry in Motion off the steps. Jeff grabbed himself a chair and got back in the ring. He set it up for another Poetry In Motion, but Matt avoided this one. Jeff went for Whisper In The Wind, but Matt hit him with the chair! Matt stretched Jeff out in the ropes before going under and getting a DRY-VAC~! to hit Jeff in the head. That scored a 2 count. Jeff was set in the corner, but Jeff kicked Matt off, although he ran into a Side Effect on the chair for a 2 count. Matt choked Jeff with his boot in the corner. He then stretched Jeff's back and ribs round the ringpost. Matt pulled out a table and set it up at ringside. Matt looked for a suplex form the corner to the floor, but Jeff fought it off. Matt reeled away, allowing Jeff to run along the apron and hit a diving clothesline. He then mule kicked Matt into the steps. Jeff got a cane and a crutch from under the ring and he whacked Matt with cane for a bit before getting another trashcan. He put the can on Matt and swung away with the crutch. Matt slumped in the corner, so Jeff hit the rolling dropkick. Jeff made a cover for a 2 count. Sitout Gordbuster by Jeff saw him go up top, but the Swanton missed. Matt scored with the Twist Of Fate, but it only scored a 2 count. Matt left the ring and went to climb up, calling for a Swanton! However, Jeff cut him off up top. Jeff hit a superplex from the middle rope before grabbiong the chair again, SMACKING Matt hard with it, sending him out. Jeff set Matt up on the table on the outside and put the chair on him. Jeff went back under and pulled out another table. He unfolded and set the second table on top of Matt! Jeff climbed up to the top rope and splashed through the tables, taking Matt with him! Jeff recovered first and he rolled Matt back in the ring. However, Matt got his foot on the bottom rope to break a pin. Jeff got the chair again and then grabbed a pair of ladders. He jumped off the chair with a leg drop to incapacitate Matt for a while while Jeff set up the ladders. One was the usual big one. The other...BIGGER. Jeff climbed up the small big one and went for a leg drop over the bigger one, but Matt moved, and hardy crashed and burned! Matt recovered and he put Jeff's head through the chair and hit the Twist Of Fate with Jeff's neck in the chair!!! And that scored the three count! WINNER - MATT HARDY! Must admit, the big spots were great, but something was missing for me. But it was an intangible. Good to see Matt get the win though. Promo aired for the Legends Of Wrestlemania game. The PSN screenname is aaron24wood... We went backstage for the first time tonight to see Randy Orton getting ready for his match alongside Legacy. Lillian introduced the next match... JBL vs. Rey Mysterio in a "I suppose JBL's right that this is historic. The IC Title's being defended at a Wrestlemania..." match for the Intercontinental Title JBL came out first, sans limo, but with a microphone. He said it was the greatest day of his life. He had a vision that like Caesar, he's return home as a champion. And he was doing when Texas had no champions. Or any men. They sit around drinking Latte's and pilates. And so they need hope, and so along comes JBL! And tonight, he'd give them the treat of seeing JBL. He promised the most dominant vicotiry in Mania history before heading back to the great New York City, still their hero. And this year, Rey was dressed as...THE JOKER! Well, either that or a VERY trendy Doink. I'll stick with Heath Ledger's Joker... Rey handed out playing cards, and indeed, he died his buzzcut green for the night through his backless mask. Lillian gave it the main event introductions. I suppose she didn't get the chance with JBL's promo. As Aaron Mahoney gave them the rules, JBL booted Rey int he head and pounded on him until he could pull him back. The bell finally rang,a nd Rey caught JBL in 619 postiton. He hit it, then he hit the Swandive splahs and got the three count!!! WINNER & NEW IC CHAMPION - REY MYSTERIO!!! Lawler claimed that it was done in 21 seconds. Not quite Kane's record then... Lawler said JBL promised something historic, but Cole pointed out it was, since he won the belt for the first title. JBL looked in total shock in the ring. JBL got hold of a microphone again and said he had something to say. He looked like he was welling up a little, although he didn't sound like it. He hesitated a couple of times before screaming "I QUIT!" He left up the aisle, but trash talked the crowd for not appreciating him as he left. We took a look at Houstonian skyline before seeing some NASCAR guy. Taker & Shawn are up next. JR sent it to a video. Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker in a "Come on...like you doubt him???" match The entrance HBK got when playing The Undertaker kicked in. So good to see them use that awesome music again. And HBK was lowered down on a platform from high up. He was wearing the white Taker Jacket & Hat with his normal attire underneath. When he got to the stage, Sexy Boy kicked in. It was then time to use a big chuck of the PPV time remaining for Undertaker's entrance. Well, 2 hours for three matches. It has to go somewhere! And as Shawn was lowered from the apparent heavens, UNdertaker was raised through the stage, form apparent hell. That was a truly awesome touch. Great camera shot on it as well. Another great shot had HBK in the ring with an Undertaker poster behind him. Well, at least when some German guy wasn't sticking his sign in front of it... HBK remained emotionless as Taker got in the ring, ready to fight. They circled round and HBk scored with a chop. Again, HBK ducked a swing and hit a couple more chops. HBK teased the kick, but Taker swung again, and again, HBK ducked and hit some punches in the corner and a chop. Taker finally grabbed HBK's arm and dumped him on the corner. He knocked Taker away and told him to suck it. However, he missed Taker, but feigned a hurt knee for a second before hitting a Thesz Press. Taker came back with shots in the corner. More shots in another corner, but HBK got the switch. A whip across the corners saw HBK go inside out before he was hit with a backdrop. Taker got HBK up for a Gorilla press slam. He dropped an elbow for a 1 count. Taker wrung the left arm and yanked the shoulder by driving his own into it. Taker wrung the arm again and went for Old School, hitting it. That Hall Of Fame bit got it wrong... However, Taker missed a boot in the corner and HBK scored with a leg breaker before downing Taker. A kick to the head put Taker down. Michaels looked for the Figure Four, but Taker blocked it at first. However, after a couple of stomps to the gut, HBK was able to lock it on. Taker tried to roll it ove,r but HBK blocked and he scored a 1 count. Another punch to Taker scored a quick 2 count. Taker was finally able to get a couple of shots in to break the hold however. HBK recovered first and ropkicked the leg out from under the Undertaker. However, Shawn bounced off the ropes into a bearhug, before dumping Michaels in the corner. Taker tried to get blood back in the leg before whipping HBK hard across the ring, following with a pair of clotheslines. Snake Eyes and Big Boot followed. A leg drop scored a 2 count for Taker. Taker called for a chokeslam. However, Shawn blocked it and locked in the Crossface! Wasn't a great one though and Taker managed to roll Shawn over for a 2 count. However, Shawn kept on the hold before manuvering Taker intot he right position. However, Taker stood up with Shawn and scored a side slam for a 2 count. Taker whipped HBK off, but HBK scored with a kick. It annoyed Taker, but Shawn started throwing chops. HBK came off the ropes and hit the flying forearm. Michaels kipped up and hit a pair of inverted atomic drop. However, he hit a flying clothesline. HBK now wnet up, but Taker sat up, and Shawn jumped off right into a chokelsma position. HBK teased the superkick, but Taker dropped down. HBK looked for the Figure Four, but Taker locked in the Hell's Gate! However, HBK made the ropes! The pair rolled outside, with Taker slaking his prey. HBK's head met the steel steps before Taker set him up on the apron. However, HBK managed to avoid the leg drop. HBK scored with a baseball slide, knocking Taker down. He then climbed u |
