01/25 WWE RAW: The Prelude to the Rumble

By Mallory Mahling Jan 25, 2010 - 11:35 PM

Welcome to WWI's ongoing coverage Monday Night Raw, live from the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.

Tonight's special treat, assuming you consider guest hosts to be a treat, will be James Roday and Dule Hill of "Psych." They will be on hand to plug the winter season of the USA series.

* * *

Are we ready? Well, ready or not, the show kicked of with Degeneration X--Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Triple H wondered where Hornswoggle was and HBK said he'd sent the leprechaun home. Shawn wanted to win the Royal Rumble and beat the Undertaker.  Would Hornswoggle's presence hinder that?

However…Triple H said he also wanted to win the Royal Rumble, too. When push comes to shove at the Rumble, if Trips has to step on HBK's dream to get to his own, than so be it. HBK said he understood. But did he really?

(1) Tag Team Match: DX vs. Legacy.

The match got underway, and all four appeared to have cranked up the intensity.

BREAKING NEWS! According to Michael Cole, there was breaking news regarding the guest hosts. (Maybe they've decided not to come.)

According to Jerry Lawler, James Roday was not at the show because he was in the hospital getting his appendix out.  Excuses, excuses.

Cody and Teddy were concentrating all their efforts on HBK, who was isolated from his partner and trying desperately to make the tag. Finally he made a hot tag to Triple H, but HBK tagged himself back in as Triple H readied Legacy for a pin. Sweet Chin Music to Rhodes and the winning pin was made by HBK after Triple H had set him up. There seemed to be some hard feelings. It's only going to get more contentious as the week goes on.

John Cena will be the guest star on this Wednesday night's "Psych." Now that's a good reason to watch the show if ever there was one.

MVP came out to deliver a message to The Miz. Since MVP is the No. 1 Contender to the U.S. Title, The Miz will have to give him a shot. He used the expression "straight up baller."

The Miz came out and asked what that meant. Was it some sort of penitentiary lingo?

MVP said The Miz would never be a baller, so it mattered not.

MVP invited The Miz down to the ring for a match, but he declined. In his place, the Big Show would be happy to beat the snot out of MVP.

(2) MVP vs. The Big Show.

MVP held his own against Big Show for a while, but he still got pinned. That left The Miz with the expected smirk on his face.

Cody and Teddy were in their dressing room fuming. Randy Orton came in and berated them for losing to DX. The Rumble rules were simple, said Orton, and he intended to win it, with or without their help.

Cena was standing backstage with the remaining guest host, Dule Hill.

The Miz came in and said he'd had to Google Dule's name to find out who he was. And in case he hadn't noticed, The Miz was the bigger star.

Maryse and her hair extensions headed to the ring. While she was showing off speaking French, Dule cut her off with some exploding pyro. She was furious and continued to cuss him out in French.

Eve Torres came out next and was a bit more gracious than Mo-reece had been.

(3) Semi-Final Diva Tournament Match: Maryse vs. Eve Torres.

Maryse took the win and will advance in the tournament for the women's title. Enough said.

Mister McMahon headed down the ramp to the "adulation" of the fans. He was about to make his decision known about the Bret Hart situation. Was there really a reason to bring Bret back? he asked. YES! responded the crowd. Then McMahon went into the audience and asked some of them individually. He barely made it back over the guardrail when he was through.  It would have been a hoot if he'd split his pants.

It appeared as if McMahon had no intention of bringing back Bret Hart and the crowd began to boo.

John Cena came out and reminded McMahon that he had treated legends like Roddy Piper and Bret Hart badly recently. McMahon had no idea what Cena was talking about. Cena said McMahon was not a coward--he was pathetic. He insisted that Bret Hart be brought back next week. And if he does not invite Hart back, he will find McMahon on his 90th birthday and knock his false teeth down his throat for every legend McMahon has disrespected over the years.

Cena managed to get McMahon's goat, so to speak, and agreed to invite Bret Hart to be on next week's show.

(Commercial break)

(4) The Miz vs. Kofi Kingston.

The Miz was vicious with his kicks. In the middle of the match, MPV suddenly appeared on the TitanTron and distracted The Miz, which led to Kofi getting the winning pin.

Backstage, Dule was getting the guided tour of the production truck from Carlito. He started playing with the graphics to come up with a match, and it turned out to be Kelly Kelly vs. Carlito.

(Commercial break)

(5) Carlito vs. Kelly Kelly.

Thinking this would be a piece of cake, Carlito hadn't even bothered to put on his ring wear for this match.

Before Kelly Kelly could get to the ring, Santino came out took on Carlito on Kelly's behalf, which would, he assumed, get Santino a spot in the Rumble.

However, before Santino could get in the ring, Jack Swagger came out and tripped him, then threw him over the top rope.

(Commercial break)

Cena was in the guest host's office with Dule, who was screwing up something else. Alicia Fox joined them and asked if Dule was psychic. Oh, the hilarity.

(Commercial break)

Who should be sitting with the announcers for the next match but Dule.  Won't this guy go away?

(6) Semi-Final Diva Tournament Match: Alicia vs. Gail Kim.

Gail Kim got the winning pin to advance in the tournament. She will face Maryse for the title.

Alicia was upset with Dule for predicting a win for her, and she'd lost. She wasn't buying it and slapped him silly. Or sillier than usual.

(Commercial break)

Next week will be must-see Raw--Bret Hart will be on hand to confront Mister McMahon, and the guest host will be William Shatner. It doesn't get much better than that!

(7) Sheamus vs. John Cena.

Sheamus was dominating this match. Cena rallied and went for a surprise cover. He and Sheamus went back and forth trying to pin each other. Just as Cena was about to be counted out and the win given to Sheamus, Randy Orton jumped into the ring and caused a DQ. Cena picked up Orton and gave him an Attitude Adjustment.

The one left standing in this ring tonight was Cena.

Who will be the last man standing on Sunday night?

Oh, and the guest host sucked.  Yet again.
