02/08 WWE RAW: Vrooooom…Racing Toward the Elimination Chamber with a NASCAR Guest Host

Welcome to WWI's ongoing coverage of RAW, live from the Cajundome in Lafayette, Louisiana.

For once I didn't have to Google the name of tonight's guest host since it will be NASCAR driver Carl Edwards. (If you know me, you know I love my NASCAR!)

* * *

Last Monday night, Bret Hart learned the hard way that Batista was cahooting with Mister McMahon.

Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed viewers to the show, and said that after last week's show, Cena and Batista had come to blows.  Highlights later in the show.

Out in the parking lot, Carl Edwards was doing donuts in his race car and finally drove into the arena.  Somewhere along the way, Hornswoggle had hopped into the car and pretended to be driving.

Carl Edwards was introduced and was accompanied down the ramp with a Bella twin on each arm. He climbed onto the top turnbuckle and did one of his trademark back flips. He said he'd always wanted to do that, especially in the home of the Super Bowl champs.  Cue the cheers!

Edwards said that next Sunday is the Super Bowl of auto racing, the Daytona 500. Hornswoggle won't be driving, added Edwards.

Cousin Carl said that NASCAR's Kyle Busch and Joey Lagano had been guest hosts previously, but he has something they don't--a friend in WWE in the form of John Cena.

Guess Sheamus figured Edwards had said enough, because he came out and interrupted. He demanded that Edwards make him the last participant in the Elimination Chamber match. He insisted that Edwards was on his show and that he must do as Sheamus says.

Sheamus was interrupted by Captain Charisma, who introduced himself to Edwards as the ECW Champ. Christian was lobbying for something, too.

Sheamus called Christian a lame duck champ, since ECW will be no more in a couple of weeks.

Christian gave Sheamus some grief about his manscape and his lack of a tan. Since Christian will be free agent, he challenged Sheamus to a match tonight,

Edwards called for a referee and the match started.

(1) WWE Champ vs. ECW Champ: Sheamus vs. Christian.

Christian was getting pounded. He rallied, then came over the top rope and landed right on Sheamus. It didn't last long, as Sheamus went back to stretching Christian. Missile Drop Kick by Christian. High elbow by Christian, who came off the ropes and was caught by Sheamus. One thing led to another and Sheamus made the winning pin.

In their dressing room, Shawn Michaels apologized to Triple H for being so distracted lately. He was obviously trying to butter up Triple H for something. However, Triple H cut him off said he was going to win the Elimination Chamber and go to WrestleMania as WWE Champion. HBK looked shocked and disappointed.

Footage was shown form last week's Raw. Cena had made the save for Hart, but took a beating from Batista after the show had gone off the air.

Cody Rhodes was obviously jealous of Ted DiBiase. Randy Orton asked if Ted thought he was better than Orton, then said he'd arranged with the guest host to face John Cena tonight. Then he said he'd arranged with Edwards for Orton and Cody to face each other in the ring tonight.

(2) Three-Team Elimination Match for the Unified Tag Team Championship: Straight Edge Society--CM Punk & Luke Gallows (w/Serena); DX--Triple H & Shawn Michaels; and The Miz & Big Show.

CM Punk introduced Jared from Subway and tried to persuade him to join his society. Fortunately for Subway Jared, the DX entrance started.

Teddy Long, Smackdown's General Manager, had joined the announcers at ringside.

When the action started, each gave as good as he got. Sweet Chin Music from HBK on CM Punk, and the Straight Edge Society was eliminated.

HBK tried the same thing with Big Show, but it was HBK who nearly found himself pinned. Miz tagged in and kicked HBK in the head. Sweet Chin Music to Show by HBK. Triple H tagged in and HBK wanted to tag in and Triple H ignored him. DX as a team began arguing, which gave The Miz the opportunity to win the match.

The winners of the Unified Tag Titles are The Miz and Big Show.

DX were still angry with each other and HBK stalked off.

WWE NXT will debut in two weeks in ECW's old time slot. But it will be vastly different.

Big Show and The Miz have decided to call themselves ShowBiz.

Backstage, HBK tried to cut a deal with Teddy Long to be traded to SmackDown and then put into the Elimination Chamber. Long tried to explain that the SmackDown team was already set. HBK grabbed Long by the lapels and Triple H stopped him before he threw away his career. HBK insisted his career was over. HBK super kicked Long then stormed away.

(Commercial break)

(3) Diva Match: Gail Kim vs. Gillian Hall.

This match had started during the break and was quickly won by Gail Kim.

Maryse, who had been on commentary, got into the ring to yammer at Gail in French. Maryse offered her hand to Gail and wished her luck.  Something is up with Mo-reece.

The next inductee into the Hall of Fame will be The Million Dollar Man, Ted DiBiase.

(Commercial break)

Subway Jared brought Carl Edwards some Subway sandwiches. Santino wanted a sandwich and a way to get into the Elimination Chamber. Kofi showed up, too. Carl wondered if he should make the matches now or let next week's guest host do it. (Good gawd…next week's host is going to be Jerry Springer.)  They made some sort of decision, but Edwards' mic wasn't on.

(3) Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes.

As usual, Orton had a bone to pick with Cody. Orton was poised to strike, when Sheamus distracted Orton, thus allowing Cody to pin Orton for the win.

Cody got a folding chair to protect Orton from Sheamus. Or maybe to protect himself?

(Commercial break)

Josh introduced Carl Edwards, who made three matches for next week:  Sheamus vs. Randy Orton; Ted DiBiase vs. Kofi Kingston; and Triple H vs. John Cena. "The Road to WrestleMania is heating up," said Edwards, "so start your engines."

(4) John Cena vs. Ted DiBiase.

Cena entered the ring throwing punches. He was still upset about last week's ambush by Batista and was taking it out on DiBiase, who tapped out.

Cena grabbed a mic and said he hadn't come here for a match tonight. He had a message for Batista--he wants to fight him. Cena invited Batista to come out, but got no response.

(Commercial break)

Cena concluded that Batista was scared to come out. Or maybe it was a McMahon business decision.

Cena called out The Chairman, who brought along a contingent of security guards. They stopped short of getting in the ring.

Cena suggested McMahon come out with a tank next time because the guards didn't scare him.

McMahon said he is the Ultimate Supreme Alpha Male. He also admitted that he'd brought along Batista last week, but he had nothing to do with Batista beating the snot out of Cena last week.

Bottom line, last week Cena had heard Bret Hart say he wanted one more match at WrestleMania and he wants the opponent to be Vince McMahon.

Cena shamed McMahon into agreeing to the match. Would he really take it? Yes, yes, yes, answered McMahon.

Cena left the ring and McMahon addressed Hart. Suddenly Hart appeared in the ring and kicked (literally) McMahon and his body guards out of the ring.

"No" to the WrestleMania match, snarled McMahon as he headed up the ramp. He said Bret deserved to be screwed.

Frustrated, Hart destroyed some sound equipment and a few monitors at ringside.

I think we haven't seen the last of this battle over who screwed who.
