2/1 WWE RAW: WWI's Ongoing Coverage of the Show, With William Shatner as Guest Host, Resistance is Futile
Welcome to WWI's ongoing coverage of Raw, live from the Sommet Center in Nashville, Tennessee--Music City USA. This week's guest host was William Shatner, no stranger to any universe, much less the WWE Universe. Do you suppose he'll bring along Big Deal, the enforcer from his Price Line commercials? If ever anybody looked like a wrestler, it's that big guy with the wild hair and the fur coat. Also appearing on tonight's show will be Bret Hart. Will he and Mister McMahon have something significant to discuss? * * * Condolences to the family of Jack Brisco. May he rest in peace. * * * Michael Cole and Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed viewers to the show. Edge, the winner of the Royal Rumble, made his way to the ring. He had been the 29th entry and had eliminated Chris Jericho and John Cena to guarantee himself a spot in the main event at WrestleMania. "I'm ba-a-a-a-ck," he said. Six months ago he'd been injured; while recuperating at home, he'd heard Chris Jericho thank him at the Slammies for being injured so he could team with Big Show. He'd promised to prove the doctors wrong and, in fact, had. Now all he had to do was pick the opponent of his choice. Edge had barely gotten the words out of his mouth before Sheamus came out for a little trash talk. Edge retorted by calling Sheamus an "evil Ronald McDonald." Sheamus told Edge to get to stepping before he hurt him. Edge got a face full of fist, then launched into a beat down which left Big Mouth Sheamus hurting. John Cena was headed to the ring for the first Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match. (Commercial break) Justin Roberts announced the first of the Elimination Chamber Qualifying Matches. (1) Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes. Cody was impressive, but Cena made the winning pin (although the referee's count seemed a bit off). Just in case you'd forgotten what happened in Montreal all those years ago, a clip of the famous screw job aired. Todd Grisham timidly asked Mister McMahon if he'd seen Bret Hart. McMahon said no one was likely to see Bret Hart tonight. McMahon went into his office and was startled to see "a Canadian" off camera. The camera panned out, and it turned out to be William Shatner, who said as a fellow Canadian, he can't wait to see Bret Hart embarrass McMahon tonight. (Commercial break) (2) Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: Jack Swagger vs. Triple H. I'm going to look into my crystal ball and predict who will win this one. And it won't be Swaggering Jack. Actually, Swagger might have had a better chance of winning if he hadn't stopped to taunt Triple H with his foolishness. The winner was, indeed, Triple H with a Pedigree to Swagger. (Commercial break) William Shatner "spoke" the lyrics to superstar entrance themes. It was hilarious! I loved it!!! In the dressing room, Triple H confronted Shawn Michaels about eliminating him from the Rumble. (Commercial break) (3) Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels. Both of these guys have issues. Orton with Cody Rhodes and HBK with the Undertaker. Winning the Elimination Chamber Match could be their last chance at making it to WrestleMania. Needless to say, this match was intense and HBK gave Orton an elbow to the heart. He started tuning up for the Chin Music, but Orton caught HBK from behind and pinned him for the win. Shawn Michaels was stunned. (Commercial break) Coming back from the break, a cameraman had stopped at the famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge for some of Nashville's atmosphere. Teddy tried to apologize for what happened with Cody last night, but Orton wouldn't even listen. How rude! Teddy looked like his feelings were hurt. (4) Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: Mark Henry vs. Ted DiBiase. Ted DiBiase managed to pin Mark Henry and will appear in the Elimination Chamber for the first time in his career. Cole and Lawler mentioned the passing of Hall of Famer Jack Briscoe, and a tribute film aired. (Commercial break) Maryse surprisingly made nice with Gail about the upcoming Diva championship match. Neither Gail nor Kelly Kelly could figure out what was up Mo-reece. In the office, The Miz and Big Show were confronted by C.M. Punk and his Straight Edge Society. The Raw Negotiator/Guest Host made a match between the two factions for next week and the winners would get the tag title. Not the best segment of the show. HBK was seriously bummed out by his loss to Orton. He still couldn't believe it. (5) Elimination Chamber Qualifying Match: Kofi Kingston vs. Big Show. The Miz came out to join Cole and Lawler on commentary. As the show went to break, Kofi had kicked Big Show right out of the ring, where he landed on his giant backside. (Commercial break) During the break, Big Show was back in the ring and making life miserable for Kofi. The Miz was about to taunt Kofi, when MVP came from out of nowhere and cheaped shotted The Miz, who made a hasty retreat up the ramp. Back in the ring, Big Show accidentally knocked the referee out when Kofi poked him in the eye, and Show called for a fresh ref. The new referee hadn't seen the eye poke and disqualified him. A disappointed Big Show roared all the way up the ramp that it had been an accident. A month ago, Mister McMahon had given Bret Hart a low blow, saying Bret had screwed Bret. (Commercial break) Cole announced that Kofi Kingston would qualify as the final participant in the Elmination Chamber. Next week, NASCAR's Carl Edwards will be Guest Host. Jerry Lawler introduced his BFF, William Shatner, who came out with a Bella on each arm. He said he'd had the best time being guest host and was pleased to have the honor of introducing his hero and fellow Canadian, Bret Hart. Hart said he'd had a month to think about things and put them into perspective. It had taken him 12 years to try to make peace. He'd been a little naïve to think he could put it all behind him. He was not here tonight to talk about closure; he come to talk to McMahon face-to-face. He called McMahon out. *Crickets* After a l-o-n-g wait, McMahon finally strutted to the ring, but kept his distance from Hart. He said he'd never regretted a thing he'd said or done to Bret. Hart called him the world's greatest liar. Last week, Cena had called McMahon pathetic. Hart said he'd been in a wheelchair eight years ago after his stroke and he'd felt pathetic. He'd overcome that, then he'd come to Raw and been kicked in the gut a month ago. That was pathetic. McMahon had called him an old piece of chewing gum, but the gum has just enough flavor to kick McMahon's ass, added Hart. McMahon mocked Hart's various nicknames and said he was no hero. He didn't understand what the fans saw in him. He said Bret deserved to be screwed. McMahon said he had rethought his offer to induct Stu Hart into the Hall of Fame because he does not deserve it. Wrong thing to say. Hart was poised to give McMahon a Shartshooter. Suddenly, Batista jumped into the ring. While Batista held Bret back, McMahon spit in Hart's face. The show ended in the ring with a humiliated Hart, Batista and McMahon looking smug, and the crowd chanting "Cena." Sounds like the beginning of a feud. Hmmmm. blog comments powered by Disqus
