RDLee's TNA "Against All Odds" PPV Report

By RDLee Feb 15, 2010 - 3:18 PM

Let me start by saying that I'm sorry that this report wasn't real time but I chose to spend Valentine's night with my lovely wife instead of watching a wrestling show that clearly no one else is watching tonight... hahaha. I am only kidding.... or am I?

I think TNA should have realized ahead of time that 90% of their married audience (myself included) would not watch the show over spending time with their significant other on freaking Valentine's Day. I mean, why couldn't they have just waited and put this on next weekend instead? Maybe it's just too obvious to me that they made the wrong choice here.

Oh well, despite TNA's ignorant choice of when to air this event I am here now a day later in the place of WWI's resident TNA reviewer Jana Bulloch who is off doing things that only "Girly Parts Jesus" people do and I will be running thru the happenings of last nights TNA "Against All Odds" PPV for you all now.

Now keep in mind that I haven't watched TNA since the Jan. 4th show when Hogan debuted so I might not be too sure about what exactly they are doing with current storylines. I will add my own little thoughts during the recap and let you know what I am thinking even if I am not 100% accurate.

-

D'Angelo Dinero v.s. Desmond Wolfe (8 Card Stud Tournament Match 1)

I have no idea who the woman coming to the ring with Wolfe is nor do I know why he suddenly needs a valet when last I checked he was excellent both on the mic and in the ring so I don't know how she helps him?

Dinero seems to be on a roll from all the stuff I have read off various Tweets from fans and such. I really hope that TNA realizes his potential and pushes him to the moon. WWE made a big mistake by letting him slip away like they did. He could have been a cornerstone for ECW for the past few years and maybe even be a IC or US title contender by now on Raw or Smackdown.

D'Angelo picked up the clean win in a back and forth match after hitting his DDE (?) or as I remember it being called, The Elijah Express, Double Knees to the back on Wolfe to win the first tourney match and advance to the semi finals later in the night.

Winner: D'Angelo Dinero

-

We saw Ric Flair talk to Eric Bishoff about his involvement in the main event match of his man AJ Styles v.s. Samoa Joe. Flair tells him to be fair and call it down the middle or else...

We also heard from Hernandez and Matt Morgan who are the tag team champions wish each other luck in their tounament match up against each other coming up next.

-

Matt Morgan v.s. Hernandez (8 Card Stud Tournament Match 2)

I'm not too sure what to think about this match. On one hand I like Matt Morgan and think that he has what it takes to be a dominating big man in the business for years to come and on the other hand I am not sold on Hernandez to be anything other than a TNA midcarder at best. There is something about the way Hernandez looks that screams INDY.

Both men are talented in the ring for their size though and had a good hard hitting match that saw Morgan steal a win by holding the tights in a roll up. Hernandez was not too happy with the way his partner screwed him.

Winner: Matt Morgan

-

Backstage Christy Hemme spoke with Kurt Angle and he talked about how he would never doubt Hogan again and would beat Mr. Anderson tonight and earn his way to another shot at the TNA title.

-

Kurt Angle v.s. Mr. Anderson (8 Card Stud Tournament Match 3)

I was a little shocked at the outcome of this match and glad TNA is making the most with the former Mr. Kennedy as he can really help the promotion with the way he does things. After exposing the turnbuckle earlier in the match Anderson ran Angle into it by reversing the Ankle lock attempt and followed up with a Mic Check for the win.

Mr. Anderson has all the potential in the world to become a big time star. He can talk, wrestle and simply has "IT". I really hope that TNA continues to build him into a cornerstone of their promotion going forward instead of Jeff "Drug addict" Hardy when he finally returns.

Winner: Misterrrrrrrrr Anderson..... Anderson....

-

Backstage Eric Bishoff told Mick Foley and Abyss to wrestle each other in a No DQ match tonight. Abyss was worried about losing his mask to which Bishoff replied if they didn't get hardcore and use the baseball bat he would remove it himself.

-

Abyss v.s. Mick Foley (No DQ 8 Card Stud Tournament Match 4)

They teased using the baseball bat throughout the match and never even used it so I wonder if that will play into the future of the storyline.

It was a typical hardcore match with chairs, tacks and brawling. Abyss acted as if he didn't want to hurt Foley so he avoided the tacks when slamming him.

Foley picked up the bat at the end but walked into a Blackhole Slam onto the the thumbtacks for his trouble to cause Abyss to pick up the win.

Abyss picked the tacks off Foley's back after the match for some reason.

Winner: Abyss

-

Backstage we got the Nasty Boys getting interviewed on their match with Team 3-D. They said Hogan brought them into TNA and they want to take out the best team currently on the roster tonight.

-

Team 3-D v.s. The Nasty Boys

This was an all out war with both teams looking for the beatdowns rather than the pinfalls at first. The match took a turn and the men began to use wrestling moves instead of brawling after a few minutes.

This is a dream match in a sense because both teams are known to be hardcore and have both been successful for many years in the WWE. The Nastys looked much better than you would have expected here and actually held their own against the former Dudleys.

The ending came when a suprise return of "The Mouth From the South" Jimmy Hart threw a motorcycle helmet in the ring for the Nastys to use to get the win while the ref was distracted.

Winners: The Nasty Boys

-

Samoa Joe and Eric Bishoff spoke backstage. Bishoff promised to be a impartial referee and call it down the middle. Joe told him to watch out for Flair ringside and that he would take care of Styles in the ring. Bishoff told him to be careful with his "samoan temper". Joe looked pissed.

-

D'Angelo Dinero v.s. Matt Morgan (8 Card Stud Tournament Match Semi Finals)

A strage match up involving two of TNA's most promising up and comers. Morgan dominated the match and nearly won on several occasions. After a missed Carbon Footprint into the corner of the ring, Dinero took advantage and nailed Morgan with his DDE for the suprise upset win of the night.

Winner: D'Angelo Dinero

-

Mr. Anderson was interviewed by Jeremy Borash (who I thought was banned off TNA TV now?) and did his whole routine while getting the point across that he would win the tournament now that he beat Angle and got the best of the best out of the way.

-

Abyss v.s. Mr. Anderson (8 Card Stud Tournament Match Semi Finals)

The whole story of the match was Anderson trying to take off the mask of Abyss which caused him alot of trouble building any momentum. Abyss managed to hit a few of his signature moves but they were not enough to put Anderson away.

Anderson got the win after twisting his mask around backwards where he couldn't see and then hit the Mic Check to get the 3 count and advance on to the the tournament finals.

Winner: Mr. Anderson

-

Backstage AJ Styles (with new blonde streaks in his hair) and Ric Flair were interviewed by Hemme. Flair put Styles over as a once in a lifetime caliber wrestler. I am not convinced this is good for AJ at this point.

We also saw Hulk Hogan telling Bishoff that the TNA talent needs to simply trust and believe that he is doing the right things for them. Bishoff is told to call the match down the middle no matter what. Eric is angry about that after Hogan walked away.

-

TNA World Championship Match

AJ Styles (w/Ric Flair) v.s. Samoa Joe

Eric Bishoff is the special ref for the match. Styles is sporting a Nature Boy robe with a hood hybrid for his entrance. The crowd was hot for this match as they chanted both for AJ and Joe at the same time.

This was the longest match of the night at over 20 minutes. Both men hit most of their signature moves and it was almost a clone of their other encounters in the past.

Ric Flair interferred as Joe set AJ up for the Muscle Buster and then Bishoff jumped out of the ring to yell at Flair for getting involved. Joe hit the buster on AJ and covered him as Eric tried getting back in the ring only for Flair to grab him and keep him away. Joe got a 10 count before getting angry and getting in Bishoff's face when he finally got back in the ring.

Styles hit a Pele Kick to Joe's head while he was interacting with Bishoff to get a slow 3 count from Eric for the win to retain the title. Bishoff wasn't happy with the result and stormed off.

Winner and Still champion: AJ Styles

-

Backstage we heard one last time from Mr. Anderson as he claimed he was only one match away from being crowned the number one contender to the most prestigous title in the world. He said he would beat Dinero in convincing fashion.

We next heard from Dinero who spoke about his desire to win the match tonight. As he was talking he was jumped by Syxx and Scott Hall for some reason. They finished the beating and then turned to the camera and warned Hogan that he should never turn his back on the Wolf Pac.

-

Mr. Anderson v.s. D'Angelo Dinero (8 Card Stud Tournament FINAL)

I am shocked that this is the main event although both men deserve to be given the chance. Anderson hit the ring and after Dinero didn't come out to his music right away Anderson demanded the ref to begin the 10 count so he could win by countout. Dinero made his way in to the stage at the last second and Kennedy attacked him on the ramp beginning the match.

Dinero sold the previous attack backstage by the NWO and it seemed like Anderson had this match at his fingertips at all times. Styles and Flair were shown watching the match on the backstage monitor.

Anderson became very cocky towards the end even calling down his microphone to do his own commentary during the match. He said he was only one Mic Check away from being the number one contender. He hit the Mic Check but only got a 2 count as Dinero kicked out! Anderson was stunned.

The Pope got the clean win after hitting a DDE on Anderson when he missed a running move into the turnbuckle. A suprising ending for the match as it looked like this would be Anderson's night. Pope celebrated on the entrance ramp as money fell from the ceiling to close the show.

Winner and new number one contender: "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero
