4/9 UFC: Recap of Episode 2 of "The Ultimate Fighter 7 - Team Forrest vs. Team Rampage"
Last week, 32 hopefuls showed up at the UFC Training Center and learned that they would have to fight their way onto the show this season. The first episode featured 8 of the 16 fights to decide who would be moving into the TUF House. So far, Mike Dolce, Cale Yarbrough, Amir Sadollah, Paul Bradley, Nick Klein, Dante Rivera, C.B. Dolloway, and Jeremy May have secured spots for themselves in the TUF House. Who will join them this week? Fight 1: Dan Simmler vs. Matthew Riddle. This one was won by Riddle in the opening seconds of the second round. That's when Riddle broke Simmler's jaw in the most disturbing knock out I've ever seen. In fact, it was one that made me nauseous. Simmler lay on the mat, moaning in agony, and he had no memory of what had happened as he was taken away in an ambulance. For his part, Riddle seemed rather proud of himself and he and Dana White exchanged thumb's up gestures. Riddle was quickly nicknamed "Southpaw Red." He was celebrating his win, but it was hard to get the image of Simmler out of my mind. Fight 2: Luke Zachrich vs. Pat Schultz. Luke won via rear naked choke. Thinking of past seasons, Schultz said he was ready and willing to come back as an alternate. Rampage was beginning to get irritated that Forrest's corner men were working with the winning fighters. Dana told the coaches that they were free to shout directions at the fighters, too, which they both began doing. Fight 3: Tim Creduer vs. Erik Charles. This was won early in the first round with an armbar by Creduer, a legitimate Jiu Jitsu Black Belt. Fight 4: Brandon Sene vs. Aaron Meisner. Sene won with a rear naked choke. Rampage said Meisner got his "ass handed to him in a brown paper sack." Rampage is wonderfully colorful when he speaks, and he's going to be fun to listen to throughout this season. Fight 5: Mike Marrello vs. Gerald Harris. Harris took the win and the next vacancy in the TUF House. Fight 6: Daniel Cramer vs. Jeremiah Riggs. Cramer won the match, but Riggs made an impression on Rampage, who was impressed with his heart and the fact that he had listened to Rampage's corner directions. Fight 7: Nick Rossborough vs. Jesse Taylor. Forrest said that Rossborough was the incarnation of Eminem. Unfortunately, Taylor sent Slim Shady back to 8 Mile with a rear naked choke. Fight 8: John Hall vs. Matt Brown. Dana sensed this was going to be a good fight, and it was. Brown took the win and the final spot on The Ultimate Fighter. At the end of the show, the fighters were gathered in the gym as Dana and the coaches bid the losers farewell and welcomed the winners to the cast of the reality show. Dana was pleased to say that there were no pussies or poseurs among the 16 fighters on tonight's show. He also said that for the first time on The Ultimate Fighter, all 16 fighters deserved to be there. Clips of future episodes showed all the things that have become familiar when 16 guys are stuck in a house with nothing to do--they trashed the place. It also showed some intense coaching and plenty of tempers flaring. It's gonna be a good season. blog comments powered by Disqus
