Chris Cooley Presents The WWE Vintage Collection: Ep 60: Rey and Eddie Celebrate Halloween, Sasuke Stops Taka, and X-Pac...Unified Champion

MATCH#1: TAKA Michinoku vs The Great Sasuke
DATE OF MATCH: July 6, 1997

Taka on the defensive early on, as he can't defend the kicks of his opponent. Both men get a few near falls on the other, and then they reset. Sasuke gains the advantage with a Hard Kick, then applies a Head Scissors. Michinoku counters into a submission of his own. Great Sasuke counters the hold, but Taka fights back. The first ever Light Heavyweight champion off the ropes, but is caught by a spin kick by his opponent. Sasuke applies a Half crab, but Michinoku gets to the ropes.

Taka gains the advantage with a variety of attacks, but as he charges at the Great Sasuke off the ropes, he is sent to the outside. Sasuke then leaps out of the ring, onto his opponent. Back in the ring, and Sasuke is teeing up on Michinoku in theending with a hard kick to the face. Taka fights back with a leg whip, and then dropkicks Sasuke to the outside. Taka then, jumps up onto the top rope, and leaps on Sasuke.

Great Sasuke tries to get back in, but Taka stops him. The future Kai-En-Tai member tries to suplex him in the ring, but Sasuke leaps over the top of him. Great Sasuke tries a German, but Michinoku lands on his feet, and connects with a Hurracanrana for the two. Taka tries a cradle pin, and gets another two. He tries another attack, but Sasuke counters with a Handspring elbow, sending Taka to the outside.

Great Sasuke goes from the apron, off the second rope, and moonsaults on Michinoku on the outside of the ring. Both men struggle to get back in the ring. Sasuke whips Taka off, but Taka counters and hits a Belly to Belly for the two count. Michinoku then whips Sasuke to the corner, nails him with a spinning kick, then leaps off the top rope and nails him with a dropkick. Taka looks for the kill, nailing the Michinoku Driver, but the Great Sasuke kicks out!! Michinoku heads to the top rope, but Sasuke nails him with a dropkick as he jumps off. Great Sasuke then connects with a Lionsault and gets a long two count. Sasuke connects with a Powerbomb, then hits the Tiger Suplex with the bridge for the pinfall.

YOUR WINNER: THE GREAT SASUKE

COMMERCIAL:




MATCH#2: WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
Eddie Guerrero (c) vs Rey Mysterio Jr.
DATE OF MATCH: October 26, 1997

FUN TRUE FACT: This match took place at Halloween Havoc.

FUN TRUE FACT: I have a VHS video of the 1989 edition of Halloween Havoc. The first ever Halloween Havoc. Remember the Thunderdome
cage match? That's there in all it's glory.

Mysterio gains the upper hand in a flurry. Too quick for his opponent, who ends up being crossbodied over the top rope by the man in the mask. Rey goes for another attack, but Guerrero pulls him off the apron, and sends Mysterio into the ring steps. Eddie with full control of the match, until he is countered off the ropes by Mysterio, and receives a dropkick for his troubles. Rey goes for a Springboard Elbow, but Guerrero counters it, into a backdrop. Eddie nails a BrainBuster for the two, as it's revealed that Mysterio's mask is on the line in this match. Eddie nails Rey with a Tilt-a-Whirl backbreaker for another two count. Guerrero applies an Abdominal Stretch, trying to remove the mask in the process. Guerrero lets go of the hold, by hitting Rey Rey with another backbreaker, which brings near falls. Mysterio tries to escape, and ends up doing so by leaping on the ropes, and hitting Guerrero with a DDT. Rey Rey with a running dropkick, sends Eddie to the outside. Mysterio looks to leap out, but Guerrero gets in the ring, and when Rey gets to the apron, Eddie dropkicks him off the apron, and onto the floor.

COMMERCIAL:




We're back, and Guerrero sends Rey back in the ring, and applies a Camel Clutch, ripping at the mask in the process. Eddie then applies the Gory Special, but Rey counters into am Arm Drag. Guerrero quickly gets back on the offense, with a dropkick to the back of the head, then connects with a BackBreaker to his opponent. Eddie with a Bow and Arrow lock on Mysterio, then he sends him across the ropes and connects with a dropkick for the two count.

Guerrero with Mysterio in the corner, but Rey tries to fight out of it. However it ends badly for the masked superstar, as he ends up in the dreaded Tree of Woe. Guerrero gets a dropkick in, but misses the second, and ends up wishboned in the turnbuckle post, as Mysterio was able to pull himself up. Rey Rey with a splash off the top rope, onto Guerrero on the outside. He sends him back in, then whips him across, Guerrero goes for a Tilt-A Whirl, but Mysterio escapes and applies the Hurrancanrana pin for the two count. Eddie catches him with a hard clothesline, then whips Rey across. Mysterio goes for the Lionsault, but doesnt connect, and after a tussle in the ropes, Rey Rey connects a headscissor, sending Guerrero to the outside. Mysterio then flips over the top and takes out his opponent with another headscissor.

Rey Rey up top, and nails Eddie with a Corkscrew Moonsault for the long two. Mysterio with a slam, then looks for the Split-Legged Moonsault, but Guerrero counters and hits a Powerbomb into a pin for another long two. The Champ whips Mysterio in the corner, then charges from the other side with a Clothesline, but Rey Rey moves and Eddie kisses pad. The challenger then connects with a spinning kick, knocking down both men.

Rey looks for the Springboard Hurracanrana, but Eddie counters it into the BackBreaker. Guerrero looks for the Frog Splash, but Mysterio gets out of the way. The future Latino Heat sends Mysterio to the top rope looking for a back suplex, but Rey blocks it. Guerrero then looks for a top rope Razor's Edge, but Rey counters into a roll-up for the three count!

YOUR WINNER AND NEW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION: REY MYSTERIO JR.

Post-Match, Eddie congratulates Rey by throwing him out of the ring.

COMMERCIAL:




MAIN EVENT: WWF LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
WCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Tajiri (c) vs X-Pac (c)
DATE OF MATCH: August 19, 2001

Tajiri held the Light-Heavyweight belt, and X-Pac held the Cruiserweight Championship. This match is for both belts.

FUN TRUE FACT: This match was held during the 2001 WWF SummerSlam PPV

Tie-up, and it's X-Pac with the early advantage, using the referee for leverage to complete an Arm Drag. Pac with a test of strength, but Tajiri counters into a standing moonsault for the 2. Waltman with a variety of holds, but Tajiri counters with slaps to the back of the head, and Syxx heads to the ropes.Tie-up again, X-Pac goes for a Back Drop, but Tajiri escapes and connects with a Hurracanrana, sending his opponent to the outside. The Japanese Buzzsaw then connects with a Baseball Slide and a Springboard Moonsault off the apron. Pac greets Tajiri's genitalia to the turnbuckle post, then heads to the ring.

Both men in, and X-Pac locks in a Mexican Surfboard. Pac with a flurry of strikes, and Tajiri tries to escape, but receives a
sit-down Powerbomb for his troubles. Pac sets Tajiri up for the Bronco Buster, but Tajiri moves and Pac ends up in the Tree of Woe. This allows the Japanese Buzzsaw to connect a dropkick. Tajiri on the attack. A springboard Elbow brings him a two count, then he applies the tarantula. Tajiri looking for a Cross Body off the top, but Pac rolls through it and gets a near fall. Syxx Pac then heads up top, but Tajiri stops him, and gets a rather unique pin attempt in, before sending Waltman to the turnbuckle pad. Tajiri with a German Suplex with a Bridge for the two.

Tajiri gets back dropped on the apron, then X-Pac kicks him off to the floor. Waltman then flips over the top rope and nails his opponent. Pac sends his opponent back in, and looks to finish, but Tajiri plays possum. The Buzzsaw looks for another springboard elbow, but X-Pac counters into the X-Factor for the pin attempt, but Tajiri counters the attempt into a near-fall of his own. X-Pac's buddy, Albert heads to the ring, allowing Pac to get a cheap kick in. But the advantage is short-lived as Tajiri gets the upper hand. Albert heads to the apron, and Tajiri sprays mist in his eyes. Tajiri turns around to receive the X-Factor and that's all.
