Chris Cooley Presents The WWE Vintage Collection: Ep 76: The Headshrinkers vs. High Energy, The All Americans vs. The Foreign Fanatics, Hall and Nash Lead Teams Into Battle...Against Each Other
MATCH#1: Headshrinkers (Samu/Fatu) w/Afa vs. High Energy (Owen Hart/Koko B. Ware)
DATE OF MATCH: November 25, 1992 We begin, with the Headshrinkers, working together to double team Koko. Fatu is in full control, clotheslining the Birdman off the ropes. A tag to Samu, and he applies pressure to the neck and shoulder of his opponent. Ware tries to fight back, but gets knocked down hard for his troubles. Fatu gets the tag, and is countered by Koko into a sunset flip for a two count. Fatu then nearly kicks Koko’s head off, and then bites him to regain control. The Birdman tries to fight back again, but the tag is made to Samu, and another double team ensues. Samu nails Koko with a headbutt on the mat, before getting a two count. The Headshinkers stay in full control, until the Birdman moves out of the way of an attempted corner splash by Samu. This allows Koko to make the tag to Owen, who starts to clean house with dropkicks, followed by a back body drop to Samu. Hart then nails the Headshrinker with a cross body from the top rope, and goes for the cover. Fatu breaks it up, so Owen gives him a spinning heel kick, sending him outside the ring. Owen looks to push the advantage, but runs into a Powerslam. Samu then tags in Fatu, who nails Hart with a splash off the top rope, bringing him three. YOUR WINNERS: Headshrinkers COMMERCIAL: Before the next match, we see how Tatanka (All-Americans), and Quebecer Pierre (Foreign Fanatics), were taken out of their teams for the Survivor Series. Their replacements were the Undertaker, and Crush respectively. MATCH#2: All-Americans (Lex Luger/Scott Steiner/Rick Steiner/Undertaker w/Paul Bearer) vs. Foreign Fanatics (WWF Champion Yokozuna w/Mr. Fuji & James E. Cornette/WWF Tag Team Champion Quebecer Jacques w/Johnny Polo/Ludvig Borga/Crush) DATE OF MATCH: November 24, 1993 We enter the match, already in progress, as Ludvig Borga is tagged in, and dominating Rick Steiner, throwing him to the outside. Steiner heads up the top, and nails Borga, bringing with it a two count, but it doesn’t take long for the Fin to regain control. Ludvig nails a slam, but misses with an elbow. Rick heads up top once again, but Borga counters the move Steiner attempted, and gets the fall. Rick Steiner is eliminated 3-4 Footage skips, and Crush is in control over Scott Steiner. He loses control however, after Scott ducks a clothesline, and nails Crush with a Double Arm suplex. A clothesline from the man from Michigan later, and a near fall comes. A whip off the ropes is countered by Crush, who nails Scott with a side kick to the face. As Crush is picking Steiner up for a Gorilla Press Slam, Randy Savage makes his way to the ring, being held back by various referees and wrestlers. Macho Man is restrained, as Crush continues the punishment on Scott with a string of kicks to the mid-section, with the last one, nailing Steiner in the back of the head. Crush nails a Leg Drop, then a headbutt, and then applies a Step Toe Hold on Scott Steiner. Crush continues work on the leg, as Randy Savage comes back to the ring. Crush is distracted, and Scott sends him outside with a dropkick. Macho Man and Crush go at it on the outside, whilst the bell rings, signalling that Crush has been counted out. Crush is eliminated 3-3 Jacques applies a Camel Clutch to Steiner, as you tune into another... COMMERCIAL: We return, with Scott press slamming Jacques to the mat. This allows the tag to Luger to be made, and he immediately goes on the offense with a slam, then an elbow drop from the second rope for the elimination. Quebecer Jacques is eliminated 3-2 We move in coverage, to see Ludvig Borga climbing the top rope, only for Steiner to cut him off, and connect a Superplex. This brings a near fall, as Yokozuna comes in to break it up. This also means that Yokozuna is now the legal man for his team, because apparently, Ludvig Borga getting superplexed, actually means, he tagged out of the match. Yoko with a slam, but misses with a running elbow. Steiner sees the chance to go for the Frankensteiner, but Yokozuna hangs on to the rope, thus negating the attempt, and Scott ends up crashing to the mat. Yoko channels his inner Hulk, and Leg Drops Steiner, for the elimination. Scott Steiner is eliminated 2-2 We move forward in programming, to find Yokozuna, choking the life out of Lex Luger. A punch to the corner, then a whip to the opposite corner, sees Luger struggling, but he avoids a corner splash by Yoko, and tags in the Undertaker. The Deadman is in control with a running DDT. He tries to get Yokozuna off his feet again, but a distraction by Borga, allows the WWF Champion to get in a belly to belly suplex. Taker rises up, and Yoko knocks him down. Undertaker rises again, so he gets a Leg Drop this time. Yokozuna nails a Banzai Drop from the corner, and rather than go for the pin, he goes for it again, and Undertaker sits up, avoiding the contact. The Deadman nails the Champion with a Flying Clothesline, sending him to the outside. Yoko bangs Taker’s head on the ring steps, but it has no effect. Both men battle it out, all the way to elimination via countout. Yokozuna and Undertaker are eliminated 1-1 COMMERCIAL: Borga has Luger hooked up, and connects with a Stalling suplex for a near fall. Ludvig then connects with a powerslam on the running Lex, but still, a near fall. A couple of clotheslines bring another near fall for the Fin. Borga looks for another suplex, but Luger counters it into one of his own. Ludvig whips Luger across, but it ends with both men clotheslining the other. Lex with the cover, but all three managers are involved in distraction. Fuji hands his bucket to Borga, who clocks Luger over the head, breaking the pin attempt. Ludvig goes for a cover himself, and Lex kicks out, with a sudden burst of energy. He nails the Fin with a shot to the midsection, before nailing a DDT. Luger with a back elbow brings a near fall, as does a powerslam. Borga gets a shot in, in defence, but it’s to no avail, as Lex hits him with the Forearm he has a steel plate inserted in, and gets the victory. Ludvig Borga is eliminated 1-0 Lex Luger is the sole survivor COMMERCIAL: MAIN EVENT: Bad Guys (WWF Intercontinental Champion Razor Ramon/1-2-3 Kid/British Bulldog/Headshrinkers w/Afa and Capt. Lou) vs. Teamsters (WWF Tag Team Champions (Shawn Michaels/Diesel)/Owen Hart/Double J/Jim Neidhart) DATE OF MATCH: November 23, 1994 We begin already in progress, and Owen and Bulldog are the two legal men. Both men try to outwrestle the other, until Davey Boy catches Hart mid-dropkick, and tosses him into the corner. The King of Harts gets pummelled in the corner, before being Gorilla Pressed by Smith. A sunset flip brings Bulldog a near fall, but Owen quickly gets in an enziguri afterwards, and tags in Neidhart. The two team up to nail Davey Boy with a double clothesline. The Anvil slams Bulldog by his hair, then Owen comes back in for another double clothesline, only this time, the move is countered and Bulldog clotheslines both men at the same time. Smith connects with a stalling suplex, before tagging in Fatu, who comes off the top rope with a headbutt. Fatu is having boot troubles, and this allows a tag to Double J to be made. Fatu nails Jarrett with a powerslam, and then makes a tag to Da Bad Guy. Double J doesn’t want to face him at first, but then gets cocky after hitting a snapmare, and then slapping Razor in the back of the head several times. This doesn’t go down well with Ramon, who takes control, knocking down Jarrett, and then clotheslining him out of the ring. He gets a shot in on Diesel for good measure, to try and provoke him, but Shawn calms him down. COMMERCIAL: Fatu is in the ring with Owen, and the King of Harts nails him with a spinning wheel kick, resulting in a near fall. Hart then bounces Fatu’s head off the turnbuckle, but that only wants to make him dance, and gain control of the matchup with a headbutt to the lower midsection of Owen. Fatu goes to send Hart off the ropes, but he makes a blind tag to Diesel, and after the youngest hart sibling was knocked down with a side kick, Diesel sent Fatu spinning with a clothesline. After this was a Jackknife, after that, was an elimination. Fatu is eliminated 4-5 The Kid who can count to three comes in, and tries to knock Big Daddy Cool off his feet with an array of kicks and dropkicks. This doesn’t work, so -4 heads up top, looking for a sunset flip, but Diesel grabs him by the throat, and tosses him across the ring. Jackknife. Elimination, and a pattern is emerging. 1-2-3 Kid is eliminated 3-5 Sionne enters with a flurry, and tries to knock Diesel off his feet. A shoulder block doesn’t work, so he sends Big Daddy Cool across the ring. Sionne ducks his head. Time for the third verse, same as the first two. Sionne is eliminated 2-5 Bulldog comes in, in even more of a flurry, and it’s obvious he didn’t learn from the last two, as Diesel owns him, greeting Davey Boy with his big right boot. Owen and Jarrett stop Smith from re-entering, thus leading to a countout. British Bulldog is eliminated 1-5 Razor sneaks in, as Diesel is arguing with Michaels about a tag, and rolls him up for a close two. Da Bad Guy is the guy to get Big Daddy Cool off his feet, and starts to take over the match. A top rope bulldog brings him two, and shoulders to the arm, brings Ramon a clothesline from Diesel. Shawn is calling for the Jackknife, but Diesel opts for some punches, and snake eyes instead. This triggers our final commercial break. COMMERCIAL: Both men are down, as Shawn wants to do a lap of the ring on the apron, but stops when he gets to Diesel, so he can yell something to him. Razor then runs into the boot that Bulldog met earlier. Diesel hits the jackkinfe, but Michaels wants the tag? Big Daddy Cool obliges, and starts to head to the apron, but Michaels has other ideas. Shawn wants Diesel to hold Ramon, whilst he hits Sweet Chin Music. HBK connects with the super kick, to the chin of Diesel, and he is irate! The fellow teamsters try to stop Diesel, but he cleans house. Michaels heads to the outside to run, but Big Daddy Cool is in hot pursuit. Nobody can stop this, as Owen and Jarrett beg for them to come back to the ring, otherwise they will lose. After the referee finishes counting, he tells the Fink, that he counted everyone out, and Razor wins. Shawn Michaels, Diesel, Owen Hart, Double J and Jim Neidhart are eliminated 1-0 Razor Ramon is the sole survivor Post-match, Todd Pettengill is interviewing Shawn Michaels. As Shawn is headed to his car, to get away from Diesel, he goes on about how Diesel is nothing without him. FACT: Diesel won the WWF Championship just three days later, in the shortest WWF Championship Title match at the time, against Bob Backlund. I ended on a Fact for the first time since I started the reviews. Well, there ya go. Be sure to tune in next time for the only old school action you won’t see on the box.
