Chris Cooley Presents The WWE Vintage Collection: Ep 78: King Kong Bundy vs. Tony Garea, Paul Orndorff vs. Tito Santana, Roddy Piper vs. Jimmy Snuka, and Don Muraco vs. Pedro Morales

By Chris Cooley Dec 24, 2009 - 10:45 PM

The following commercials are deemed by the writer of the upcoming Vintage Collection, and by World Wrestling Insanity management, as being unsafe for your workplace. That doesn’t mean, that can’t watch them at your workplace. Who does things safely these days anyways?

Besides, the commercials are all songs to bring cheer this holiday season. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, or any other celebration this time of year, I promise to put a spring in your step, and a smile on your face.

MATCH#1: King Kong Bundy w/Jimmy Hart vs. Tony Garea
DATE OF MATCH: June 21, 1985

Garea with a side headlock, but that doesn’t work as Bundy drops him with a shoulder block. King Kong sends his opponent across, but Tony counters and tries to get control, with a flurry of attacks, but Bundy fights back, and sends Garea to the mat with another shoulder block. However, Bundy misses with an elbow, allowing Tony to gain the momentum. He begins with a Leg Trip, and then begins work on the left leg of Bundy. KKB grabs the ropes, so the hold gets broken, and he spends the next few seconds recuperating.

They go at it again, and Bundy rams Garea’s head into the turnbuckle, before apply pressure on the same head, by standing on it. King King chokes out his opponent with the ropes, then hits a chop, and a snapmare, for a near fall. Bundy applies a reverse chinlock, but loses control, after a whip is countered into a dropkick by Garea. However, Bundy quickly reverses things back in his favour, and after an avalanche in the corner, he gets the victory.

YOUR WINNER: King Kong Bundy

MATCH#2: WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Tito Santana (c) vs. Paul Orndorff
DATE OF MATCH: September 1, 1984

We enter the match, with Orndorff escaping an arm bar, and nails Tito with a reverse atomic knee drop. Paul then puts pressure in the champ’s neck with his knee, before posing for the crowd. Mr Wonderful sends Santana to the outside, then showboats some more. Orndorff heads outside, and gives El Matador another reverse atomic drop. Santana manages to get to the apron, but Mr. Wonderful hangs him on the top rope, sending the champion back onto the floor. This gives Paul more time to showboat.

Santana gets back into the ring, and goes for the rollup, as Orndorff is distracted, but only gets two. It doesn’t take long for Tito to end up back on the mat, as Paul wastes time. El Matador tries to mount some offence, but Mr. Wonderful stops this with a facelock, as we hear another song for this festive period.

COMMERCIAL:

We return to find Tito knocking Paul down, but Orndorff fights back with a suplex, for a two count. An irish whip by the challenger, but Santana counters it with a cross body, and gets a near fall. Mr. Wonderful tries to regain the momentum with some punches, and a pin attempt, but the force of the kick-out by El Matador, sends the challenger to the floor.

Santana misses with an elbow, allowing Orndorff the chance to jump off the second rope. However, this is thwarted, as Tito is able to counter, by getting his knees up in time. El Matador starts to gain control, by slamming Paul, and then connects with a slingshot for a near fall. Tito runs the ropes, but runs right into a Paul Orndorff clothesline, which brings the challenger an almost victory. Mr. Wonderful nails Santana with his knees, but the time limit ends in the matchup, before Orndorff can get three.

YOUR WINNER: Draw (Tito Santana retains)

MATCH#3: TEXAS TORNADO TAG TEAM MATCH
‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper/’Ace’ Bob Orton vs. ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka/Junkyard Dog
DATE OF MATCH: January 21, 1985

JYD and Orton start off against each other, leaving Piper and Snuka to fight it out amongst themselves. Bob backdrops his partner by mistake, and they both receive headbutts from Superfly and Junkyard. Cowboy Bob is sent to the outside, followed by Hotrod and Jimmy, meanwhile Ace gets back in the ring, only to be clotheslined by JYD for a near fall. Roddy introduces Snuka to the ring post, then the Rowdy one heads back into the ring, where he and Orton do the double team for a two count. Piper and Cowboy Bob go to double team the Superfly, but he gives them a double noggin knocker. All four wrestlers are outside the ring, as Orton tries to escape out of the ringside area. He comes back into the ring, where he and Piper take control with chinlocks. JYD and Snuka fight out of the holds, but are locked in sleeper holds, as you enjoy another Christmas treat. This time from Aussie trio, Tripod.

COMMERCIAL:

Back from your mid-match Christmas treat, to find things where we left them. Piper and Orton with sleeper holds on Snuka and JYD. After what seems like forever, the Superfly and the Dog are able to grab ahold of the other, and break the submission, by sending the Hotrod and Ace crashing into each other. After a double team on Jimmy, Cowboy Bob heads to the top for a splash, but Snuka is able to get his knees up, countering the move. Roddy thinks he can take on the Superfly, but he is sent outside with a headbutt, as Jimmy follows him. JYD attacks Orton on the outside, meanwhile Piper greets the Superfly to the railing on the outside. Inside the ring, the numbers get too big for the Junkyard Dog, and Ace pins him for the one, two, three.

YOUR WINNERS: Roddy Piper/Bob Orton

COMMERCIAL: I just don’t cater for those who celebrate Christmas. The Jewish at this time, celebrate Chanukah. I’ll let Adam Sandler explain.

MAIN EVENT: WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Pedro Morales (c) vs. the Magnificent Muraco
DATE OF MATCH: January 22, 1983

The action starts in a flurry, with Muraco firing at Morales with punches, but the champ uses his belt as a weapon to gain control. Pedro uses the Magnificent One’s own shirt, to choke him and send him to the corner of the ring. The referee tries to stop the champ, but to no avail, as Morales gets through, only to be countered into the buckle. A sunset flip soon turns the tide in favour of the champ once again, as he scores a near fall. This sends Muraco outside, whilst Pedro stays in the ring, and listens to the ref’s count.

Don makes it back to the apron, but Morales slams his head against the turnbuckle, which sends the challenger back down to the floor. Pedro looks to go off the top, but the Magnificent One rolls under the ring to avoid the attack. This time Muraco is allowed back in the ring, but is still dominated by Morales, until a low blow by the challenger leaves both men on the mat, as I bring you what is known, as the most offensive Christmas song ever.

COMMERCIAL:

If you made it past the last Christmas song, both men are getting to a vertical base, where Muraco uses his tattered shirt to gain the advantage in the matchup, until a low blow evens things up again. The Magnificent One is sent toward the turnbuckle by Morales, where he dodges the champ’s knee, and Pedro crashes into the turnbuckle. This gives Don a chance to work on the knee of his opponent, by applying a figure-four leglock.

Morales breaks the hold by getting to the ropes, then rakes the eyes of the challenger to relieve the pressure. This doesn’t last long, as Muraco tries for the leglock again, but Morales blocks it, and pushes the Magnificent One into the turnbuckle.

Both men get to their feet, and Morales connects with a backbreaker, and looks for the submission finish with a Boston crab, but he is unable to grasp the hold properly. Pedro sends Muraco into the ropes, and looks for a scoop slam, but the Magnificent One falls back, allowing him to get the pinfall, and become new Intercontinental Champion.

YOUR WINNER: Magnificent Muraco
