Chris Cooley Presents The WWE Vintage Collection: Reliving The Royal Rumbles

By Chris Cooley Feb 20, 2010 - 8:16 AM

The Royal Rumble may be over for another year, but we aint finished yet. Here is the Vintage Collection’s look, at the Royal Rumble Pay Per View...

Ep #84

MATCH#1: Ricky ‘the Dragon’ Steamboat vs. ‘Ravishing’ Rick Rude
1988

The match ends after Rick Rude pushes the referee in the way of a Steamboat cross body. This gives the Ravishing One the advantage, and he beats down the Dragon. The bell rings, as it looks like Rude has won, but the referee has called a DQ for the push, and Steamboat gets the win.

YOUR WINNER: Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat

MATCH#2: 2 out of 3 falls
Jim Duggan/Hart Foundation vs. Dino Bravo/Rougeau Brothers
1989

After sharing the first two falls, an unintentional referee distraction, allows Duggan to nail Dino Bravo with the 2x4, and helps Bret Hart to get the deciding fall.

YOUR WINNERS: Jim Duggan/Hart Foundation

MAIN EVENT: WWF CHAMPIONSHIP
Ultimate Warrior (c) vs. Sgt. Slaughter
1991

Randy Savage and Sherri try to cause a distraction, but Warrior throws Sherri onto the Macho Man. However, Slaughter comes from behind, and pushes the Champ into the ropes, where Savage smashes a foreign object over Warrior’s head, allowing the Sarge to get the fall, and become new Champion.

YOUR WINNER AND WWF CHAMPION: Sgt. Slaughter

Ep #86

MATCH#1: The New Foundation (Owen/Anvil) vs. The Orient Express (Pat Tanaka/Kato)
1992

Neidhart sends Kato outside the ring, and then Owen finishes him off with a Suicide Dive. Hart then climbs the top rope, and hits a splash on Tanaka, with help from the Anvil, to give the Hart Foundation the victory.

WINNERS: The New Foundation (Owen/Anvil)

MATCH#2 : WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Razor Ramon (c) vs. I.R.S
1994

The referee is knocked down from earlier in the match, and Razor sets up for the Razor’s Edge, only for Shawn Michaels to come down, and hit Ramon with his Intercontinental Belt. I.R.S stirs, so does the referee, and I.R.S. makes the cover and gets the three. As he celebrates with the IC Title, a second referee comes in, with another belt, and Razor nails the Razor’s Edge on I.R.S, to remain champion.

WINNER AND INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION: Razor Ramon

This match would like to the infamous Ladder match between Michaels and Ramon, for the Undisputed Intercontinental Championship, at WrestleMania X.

MAIN EVENT: WWF CHAMPIONSHIP
Diesel (c) vs. Bret Hart
1995

The finish isn’t really a finish, as Bret knocks himself, Diesel and the referee down. At this time, Shawn Michaels rushes the ring and lays a beatdown on Diesel. Bob Backlund, Owen Hart, Jeff Jarrett and the Roadie follow HBK, and between them decimate the Champ and the Hitman. The match is declared a draw, after referees couldn’t regain control of the match, so the five intruders enter the ring once again, and continue the beatdown. Diesel manages to shrug off Michaels, Roadie and Jarrett, then helps Bret clear out the rest.

Just as it looks like Hart and Diesel are going to fight, they shake hands, and raise the hands of the other.
