Welcome to the Vintage Collection, and we’ve finished our WrestleMania Road Trip. This episode looks at revenge. Events that have happened at WrestleMania that have lead to someone wanting revenge over another.
Episode #95
Our first recap, takes us to WrestleMania V, and the falling apart of Strike Force.
MATCH#1: Tito Santana vs. Rick Martel
DATE OF MATCH: April 2, 1989
The commentary team is Lord Alfred Hayes, and the voice of WCW, Tony Schiavone.
Santana pummels Martel in the corner, and the referee keeps pulling Tito away. However, as El Matador keeps heading back for more, he goes to the well once too often, and ends up getting pinned by the future model, albeit with Martel’s feet on the ropes.
A recap of the WrestleMania XI Main Event between Diesel and Shawn Michaels plays, and then an interview from Monday Night RAW the next night is shown, in which his bodyguard, Sycho Sid, is sent packing by the HeartBreak Kid, for being the one responsible, for costing Michaels the WWF Championship.
MATCH#2: WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Shawn Michaels (c) vs. Sycho Sid w/Ted DiBiase
DATE OF MATCH: September 11, 1995
This match took place, on the first RAW after the SummerSlam PPV of 1995, in which Shawn Michaels recaptured the Intercontinental Championship, in a Ladder Match against Razor Ramon.
Vince and the King are on commentary, and McMahon’s voice went normal, then started going high, then normal, then fast paced, then slowed it down. I don’t think Vince spoke the same way for more than one sentence.
Shawn was out of it for the majority of the matchup, until a run at the end, and two Sweet Chin Musics, helped him retain the gold.
Recap time, of WrestleMania 13, and the aftermath of the Submission match, between Bret Hart and Steve Austin, in which Special Referee, Ken Shamrock, was attacked by the Hitman.
MATCH#3: WWF CHAMPIONSHIP
Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart (c) vs. Ken Shamrock
DATE OF MATCH: October 27, 1997
A ref bump, followed by the AnkleLock, and Ken Shamrock should’ve won the match, and as Shamrock was celebrating, Bret Hart nails the challenger with a chair, and applies the SharpShooter. Only for Shawn Michaels to come down to ringside, and drop Bret with Sweet Chin Music. This enraged the most dangerous man, and he gives the HeartBreak Kid a suplex for his troubles. The Hart Foundation come down to attend to Bret, and the future DX come and check on Michaels, as Shamrock celebrates in the ring.
A recap of the Main Event of WrestleMania IV plays, with Randy Savage winning the WWF Championship tournament, over Ted DiBiase
MAIN EVENT: WWF CHAMPIONSHIP
‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage w/Miss Elizabeth vs. ‘Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase w/Virgil
DATE OF MATCH: August 31, 1988
This match appeared at the WrestleFest 1988 event. Also on the card was a Steel Cage match between Hulk Hogan and Andre The Giant, Jim Neidhart defeated ‘Leaping’ Lanny Poffo, and the Ultimate Warrior was able to defeat Bobby ‘the Brain’ Heenan.
DiBiase looks in total control of the matchup, until Savage sneaks in a Small Package and gets the fall. Post match, Million Dollar Man and Virgil perform a beatdown on the Macho Man, and par with the title belt. However, Savage rolls to the outside, and throws a chair in the ring, causing DiBiase and Virgil to bail. The Champion celebrates in the ring, with Elizabeth on his shoulder.
On a final note, our prayers go out to the friends and family of Chris Kanyon, who passed away at the age of 40.
That's all for this week, tune in next week for more of the show those outside of the US see on the box, the WWE Vintage Collection.
