Aaron Wood Quick ECW, Superstars & Smackdown Reports On Site At Tonight's Tapings
By Aaron Wood
Hello, my Gathering. Aaron here once again with an on-site report from the ECW & Smackdown (and don't forget Superstars...mustn't forget Superstars...)! Overall, it was a VERY enjoyable night, with some REALLY good matches.
First things first, the "Aaron On Camera" issue. As I may or may not have noted last night, I was going to be sitting at the other end of the row I featured in my picture last week in the Smackdown review. Now, I can't say how many times I'll be on camera, but I did clock at least my Scotland flag a few times, and I did clock a shot of myself once on the TitanTron. Ironically enough, I don't know if I'm seen at all in the Drew McIntyre segment. I know I clocked myself in the opening with Punk. But put it this way, whenever the camera is pointing from the bottom left of the ring (as you see it on TV) into the top right, and I reacted quick enough, I could be on camera if the idiots in the ring would just get out of the way! But enough of me, what actually happened??? Lauren Mayhew sang the British National Anthem. Damn good, and WAY hotter than Lillian. Still very ropey at the actual ring announcing though. Cryme Tyme def. Mike Knox & Eric Escobar in the opening dark match when Shad pinned Knox. The Abe Washington show opened ECW. Guest was Yoshi Tatsu. They did a semi-serious talk about the ECW Title match later before descending into comedy with Yoshi repeating Abe's "Thank You". Tony Atlas is awesome. Funny stuff from where I sat. It does just kinda end though. Goldust def. Burchill. The Mask vs. Career match with Hurricane is now next week. Towards the end of the match, Hurricane ran out and around the ring, distracting Burchill, allowing Goldust to get the pin. Vance Archer def. a jobber. He cut a heel promo on the crowd beforehand. Probably won't air. Not that it was bad (far from it actually), but it was so we knew to boo. Christian retained the ECW Title against William Regal in an AWESOME and long match. Many near falls the crowd bought into. For Superstars, Shelton Benjamin def. Zack Ryder by countout. Both men spilled out the ring, but Sheton got back in while Ryder & Rosa Mendes, who came out with Ryder, flirted at ringside, leaving Ryder oblivious to the count. They then filmed the opening of this week's Superstars with the pyro. They then had Matt Hardy def. DH Smith in a pretty good match. Tyson Kidd tied to interfere and he and Natalya got banned. As the Harts argued with the ref, Hardy scored the rollup. Interesting note that Natalya Neidhart appears on Superstars this Thursday and then afterwards, Jim Neidhart appears on TNA Impact. Have a father and child ever worked on TV for 2 seperate companies on the same broadcast night? Smackdown opened with CM Punk. He cut a promo on the British and R-Truth. Truth came out and gave a good rebuttal. However, Punk picked up the win in their match by grabbing hold of the ropes. Another good match. Backtage, Mickie left her locker room for her match when Layla confronted her, allowing Michelle in the background to sneak in the dressing room. Mickie vs. Natalya was next. Layla & Michell came out, having torn and cut up Mickie's clothes, distracting Mickie and allowing Natalya to get the pin with a clothesline to the back of the head. John Morrison cut a promo on his match with Ziggler later, saying Ziggler would be nervous while he had a plan. Drew McIntyre & Finlay worked a No Contest when they wouldn't stop a brawl. A fair few Drew fans in, myself included. We did our best to get some chants going. After the match, Drew blocked a shillelagh shot and hit Finlay with it himself. The place went dark for a few moments and then Drew came back out. Either they re-filmed the post-mach stuff or we see more brawl, but it ended up the same result, as Drew, the second time, hit Finlay with the stick not once, but twice. Batista & Rey had a contract signing for their match. They did that right away. This one's hook was that Batista wanted Rey to sign an indemnity waiver for what he thought he'd get to do to Rey at the PPV. Rey refused at first, but then did, before knocking the table and Batista over. John Morrison & Dolph Ziggler worked a double countout when they both took a nasty looking spill off the top rope. Damn good match to that point too. Beth Phoenix killed her jobber of the week. Lisa Taylor, I think I caught her name as. It was announced that next week, Morrison & Ziggler would wrestle 2 out of 3 falls for the IC Title. Undertaker def. Chris Jericho when he turned over the Walls and put on Hell's Gate. Jericho hit Taker with everything and came close a few times. Big Show came out and they put Taker in the Walls/Collosal Clutch combo. However, Kane ran out and made the save, so I'm guessing next week will be JeriShow vs. The Brothers Of Destruction. Smackdown ended there, but Taker stayed on to retain the title against Punk in a quick Casket match. I think them bringing out the casket with the druids was longer than the match. But I think the show was running late as it is. Quite ropey producton at times. Overall though, a really good night, a really fun pair of shows and I can't wait to see how they translate on TV. But then again, since my Internet's been down all day, bar a few choice moments, I've yet to see anything of RAW. Anyway, I'll see you all on Friday, and you never know, I might have screenshots of me!
