What’s going on everyone? Been a weird and sad week in the entertainment world. Thankfully Ring of Honor is keeping its spirits high with some preparation for the future. Here’s looking at the future with the second half of the results of last week’s TV tapings.

Pre-Show:
- Orange Cassidy v Eddie Kingston: Squash. Kingston with a spinning backfist. Post match interview where King says he won't stop until Hero is out of wrestling.
- The Set v Bobby Dempsey and Sawada: Dempsey wins with a DVD
* First Show:
- Roderick Strong v Austin Aries: Aries wins with a roll up with his feet on the ropes. "Crowd was going nuts".
-Jerry Lynn promo: talks about D'lo and how he wrestles at his peak at age 46.
- D’lo Brown v John Kermin: D’lo wins with a Spinebuster from the second rope
- Kevin Steen and El Generico v Tony Kozina and Sami Callihan: Steenerico wins with a Package Piledriver/Brainbuster Combo.
- Tyler Black comes out for an interview. Aries hits the ring asking why he doesn't get interview time. Nigel comes out and they all argue about who should have the belt. Nigel leaves and Aries hits Black with the belt.
* Second Show:
- Colt Cabana, Brent Albright, Grizzly Redwood, and Necro Butcher v The Embassy(Jimmy Rave, Claudio Castagnoli, Ernie Osiris, and Prince Nana) Elimination Rules: Osiris beats Grizzly, Albright and CC are both counted out, Rave makes Necro tap, Osiris gone after a Colt 45, Rave gets rolled up, Cabana makes Nana tap to the Billy Goats Curse for the win. Ernie did a flip off the apron on to Necro's foot in a chair in a cool spot.
- Even Scott v Nigel McGuinness: Nigel wins with a DDT.
- The American Wolves v Up In Smoke: Wolves win with a Single Leg Crab. Post match, Dark City Fight Club comes down and destroys Cheech and Cloudy. Then they stare down the Wolves.
- Sonjay Dutt v Delirious: Deli wins with a roll up.
* Third Show:
- Jerry Lynn v Tyler Black: Nigel comes down during the match. Black has the match won with a Powerbomb/Superkick Combo, but Nigel puts Lynn foot on the ropes at 2. Lynn wins with a Cradle Piledriver.
- Silas Young v Erick Stevens: Stevens win with a Dr Bomb.
- Eddie Kingston comes out and wants Hero. Hero's music hits and Hagadorn comes out and says Kingston isn't worthy. He sends out Sal Rinaro. The match is on, and Kingston squashes him. Ends it with a Spinning Backfist.
- Kenny King and Rhett Titus v The Briscoe Bros: Briscoes win with Springboard Doomsday Device. Post match, Wolves come out and talk sh!t, Steenerico comes out and everyone brawls.
- Aries comes out and cuts a promo on par with last night.

I hate to sound redundant with every set of TV taping results, but I’ll say it again, I’ll judge the shows when they air. I don’t know what post production they’ll do, but I just don’t see Aries being showcased as much as a World champion should be, though I am really looking forward to that match between him and Strong. The World title situation is confusing right now by just reading the results. Black seems to be on the cusp of breaking through while Jerry Lynn is either getting ready for a battle of the veterans between himself and D’Lo, or just getting D’Lo ready for his own title match that would be the most heelish confrontation in ROH history. Then there’s Nigel. I don’t know where he’s going right now. Is he going to have an extended feud with Tyler Black, or is he planning on eliminating all of his competition before getting his hands on Aries? I might be confused right now, but the potential for some incredible matches and moments are just too obvious to get down on.
Now the question is if Detroit had some incredible matches last night. Here are the results for you.

* The show opened with a 10 bell salute to Mitsuharu Misawa.
* Grizzly Redwood defeated Silas Young with a rollup.
* Rhett Titus & Kenny King defeated Brent Albright & Erick Stevens when King rolled up Albright. Albright was busted open in the back of the head hardway early on.
* Ric Flair came out and cut a short promo putting over ROH, Cary Silkin and Detroit.
* Nigel McGuinness fought Claudio Castagnoli to a double countout.
* Kevin Steen & El Generico defeated The House of Truth, Christian Able & Josh Raymond with Truth Martini.
* ROH champion Austin Aries won a non-title Six Man Mayhem bout, pinning Joey Ryan. Also competing were Delirious, Petey Williams, Sami Callihan and Rasche Brown.
* Colt Cabana defeated D'Lo Brown after using the ring bell. A lot of comedy.
* ROH Tag Team champions The American Wolves defeated KENTA & Roderick Strong.
* Tyler Black defeated Jimmy Jacobs in a Steel Cage Match. After the match, a collection of masked men hit the ring and destroyed Black as screaming played over the sound system.

I think this might be one of those weekends where ROH puts on a double shot to remember. The main event was said to be very similar to the clash between Jacobs and BJ Whitmer from Supercard of Honor II two years ago. And that match was one of my favorite ROH matches ever. The ending is officially the reboot for the slowly dying Age of the Fall. Jacobs said during his promo on last week’s episode of TV that after the cage match, the Age of the Fall would begin. I’m glad to see that we might get the true AOTF experience that I think was lost during the original formation. The message of the original incarnation wasn’t clear, and hopefully we’ll get a better understanding and mission statement this time around.
The match of the night was the semi-main event according to ROHbots in attendance, and I highly doubt they’re wrong. I really want to see this match. The triple threat tag match was also said to be a surprisingly good match with the local talent really stepping up to take it to one of ROH”s best teams. Hopefully ROH can follow up tonight in Chicago. Preview for you right down there. Down where? You know where.

Here is the card for Saturday's ROH event in Chicago, IL:
* ROH Title Match: Austin Aries (c) vs. Nigel McGuinness
* Tyler Black vs. KENTA
* The American Wolves vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico
* Chicago Street Fight: Colt Cabana & Brent Albright vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Joey Ryan
* Roderick Strong vs. D-Lo Brown
* Kenny King vs. Petey Williams
* Rhett Titus vs. Delirious vs. Egotistico Fantastico vs. Sami Callihan vs. Alex Payne vs. Silas Young
* "Skullkrusher" Rasche Brown vs. Erick Stevens

Okay, the main event and semi-main events alone are worth the price of admission. I’ve been jealous of some of you ROHbots for being in areas where some of the best matches and appearances of the year have been booked, and this is another one of those times where the green-eyed monster comes out. While I know the KENTA/Black contest won’t likely have much standing on the ROH World title situation, you have to wonder if a win for KENTA will give us the Aries/KENTA match I’ve been dying to see since Aries’ heel turn. The World title match could really set up what we can expect for the rest of the summer. I said last week that Aries might be the opposite of any champion thus far, using everything in his power, honorable or not, to make sure he keeps the belt, even if that means getting himself disqualified or counted-out in the process.
Then there’s the last chance Tag title match that should be crazy fun because The Wolves and Steenerico have never had a bad match, and this might be best non-gimmick match they’ve  had together. Of course the Chicago Street Fight will have the most crowd involvement of the evening, and the Chicago crowd never lets down on the excitement.

Kenny Omega and Kenny King have done recent battle on HDNet. Be it 6 Man tags, Tag Contests, or one-on-one, these two have proven that they are two of the brightest up-and-coming stars in professional wrestling
. Now they'll do it again on night one of "Death Before Dishonor VII"! Signed for July 24th in Toronto is King versus Omega!

As stated above, King and Omega had a great battle on TV last weekend, and I’m looking forward to hearing how this one turns out. For the first time in a long time, these two together shine as definite stars in the making. I think this is the foundation of something special that when these two move on to bigger things, ROHbots will look back and say that these matches were the start of their superstardom. I have a feeling like CM Punk and Samoa Joe before them, these two will be linked in ROH history for a very long time.

The Super Smash Brothers have received more than one "please come back" chant after their appearances on ROH events, and have impressed nearly everyone that has seen them. Now they'll have the toughest test of their young careers on July 24th in Toronto as they face Mark and Jay – The Briscoe Brothers!

This will be a nice test for the SSB. We’ve seen quite a few teams come in to ROH this year and help show that tag team wrestling is alive and well. The Dark City Fight Club did it in February. The Phoenix Twins really broke through a few weeks ago. The SSB are going to get the chance to follow in those teams’ footsteps, and hopefully etch a spot on the roster.

As announced last Saturday in Philadelphia, Bryan Danielson is suffering from a highly contagious staph infection, which he presumes was contracted during his intense training at Extreme Couture in Las Vegas. The infection took hold very quickly, and as a result, he spent Saturday morning in a Philadelphia hospital. Bryan missed the TV tapings, but addressed the crowd to update his situation. As was recommended by medical personnel, Bryan will not be able to take part in the events this weekend in Detroit and Chicago as he recuperates.

Sorry to hear about this. Of course I’m hoping for a fast recovery, but I also hope Danielson doesn’t rush back for the sake of bookings, hurting his health in the process. Bryan Danielson is a smart man, and he’ll be back with a clean bill of health to show why he’s “The Best Wrestler in the World”.

Ring of Honor informed their wrestlers that the July 17th and 18th ROH on HDNet tapings have been cancelled. HDNet officials have stated that there is nothing to read into. As of today, they have TV taped through September 5th, and another set of tapings would lock them into shows through the middle of October. This would have put the August tapings into December. The next tapings will be the already scheduled August 28th and 29th dates.

A lot of idiots on other sites where the ignorant trolls roam (ROH alumni Mick Foley knows what I’m talking about) called this a sign of the end of ROH TV, and maybe Ring of Honor as a whole. If they were smart enough to read they’d see that ROH and HDNet is trying to avoid having their TV shows become outdated as their pay-per-views were. This is a smart move, and when the next set of tapings roll around, they’ll be just starting to wind down with the ones you’ve been reading about the last two weeks.
Well, that sets me up for a look at last week’s edition of ROH on HDNet. What’s right, what’s wrong, all answered by yours truly.

ROH on HDNet 06.20.09 QUICK RESULTS:
Claudio Castagnoli defeated Necro Butcher
MsChif defeated Nevaeh
Kenny Omega defeated Kenny King
Eddie Kingston defeated Andy Ridge
KENTA defeated Roderick Strong

Right:
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Necro Butcher: The show’s opener played off a little squash from the week before. Butcher has really changed his style since coming to ROH, and with it, surprising everyone with his mat skills, making them pay attention more to his stuff than just expecting some wild brawl. Butcher took a beating and came back in preparation to win when The Embassy interfered, allowing Claudio to kick Butcher in the groin to get the pin. Afterwards, Butcher was saved from a beat down by Brent Albright, continuing the budding feud between Albright, Butcher, Colt Cabana and The Embassy. Claudio gets a dirty win while Butcher still looks strong and cheated out of his sure victory. Good stuff all around to make us care about their future battles.
MsChif vs. Nevaeh: I really expected this to be a squash, even with Nevaeh doing a promo before her match. Instead, Nevaeh gave the Shimmer champion a solid battle, actually building the match off a headlock. But MsChif got a little help from Jimmy Jacobs, helping her win the back & forth affair with some green mist and the Desecrator. Even though ROH has been sprinkling women matches on their shows, it’s been the same few women every time. I think Nevaeh proved she deserves a few more shots on TV to add her name to the Women of Honor.
The Odd Couple: I don’t know if it’s just me, but it feels like Ring of Honor stumbled onto something with Cabana and Albright. The funny man/straight man duo they’ve become in just a few weeks was amazingly entertaining in the merchandise shill spot they had. Hopefully it’ll continue after their stuff with The Embassy is over.
Kenny Omega vs. Kenny King: I said earlier that these two men have been proving they are future stars with their matches against each other. And this was a perfect example of what I’ saying. They told a great story with some amazing athleticism mixed in to make sure than fans were jumping off their seat. They also used the old “learned spots” sequences that helped move the match to its conclusion. I have a great feeling about these two and their feud in regards to the future of ROH and their careers.
KENTA vs. Roderick Strong: When this match was announced, I knew we were in for some brutal stuff. Two of the hardest hitters in the business squaring off on TV are grounds for making any fan groan in anticipation of the bone chilling action. And these two men delivered in spades. One chop was paid back with a thunderous kick. Counters into more devastating attacks were the norm here, and I couldn’t have wanted it any other way. The only flaw I found in this match was the time. I just really didn’t want this to end, let alone after just ten minutes of incredible, Japanese style action. But in those ten minutes, Strong and KENTA gave us some of the best action unlike anything you’d see in the big two right now. Another great main event from Ring of Honor.

Wrong:
Eddie Kingston vs. Andy Ridge: It was a squash, simple and plain. But that’s not why it’s wrong. I think the match wasn’t needed for this show. It’s good that they want to continue the build up to Kingston/Hero II, but the show was already loaded, and didn’t need another match, especially a squash this short. The time used for this match could’ve been given to the main event, making it a complete classic instead of just a great, but yet short main event (in Ring of Honor consideration).

Overall: This was a good show, but it could’ve been more if the main event was given a little more time. That’s not to say the main event was a let down. It’s just that I didn’t want it to end, let alone after ten minutes. I would love to see a rematch where they’re given at least twenty minutes to just go all out. I did thoroughly enjoy King vs. Omega, and I’m looking forward to see how these two grow in ROH. If they move from the positions they are in now to a level that of current and past Ring of Honor stars, these matches might be looked back fondly by fans who were there to see the beginning of something great. I’m really excited to see how The Embassy’s current feud plays out because It has be very entertaining thus far. Wrestlers of ROH lore as well as those trying to break through are getting a chance to shine with this rivalry. As usual, not enough to drag this episode down to misable status, so make sure you check it out if you can for Omega and King, and especially the main event.

Okay all, lets call it another week. I know you’ve been keeping up with those sales on rohwrestling.com, as well as the greatest website exclusive interviews the IWC has ever witnessed, ClubWWI.com.
And before I close out, I know this has nothing to do with wrestling, but I’d like to send my public remorse to the family of Michael Jackson. As a black man who grew up between the “Bad” and “Dangerous” album years, I was exposed to Jackson’s talent pretty early in my life and always respected him as an artist. I hope that those who watched and looked up to him, good times and bad, can use their experiences of him in a positive way to help others and themselves like he had done throughout his own life. Plus, I always thought “Smooth Criminal” would be a great entrance song (And Steenerico made that true last night). R.I.P.

Till Then
