1/18/10: Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood pimp the final match of the Pick 6 qualifiers-Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe. Hogewood and Prazak put their money on Briscoe for the win. I…concur. (Word of The Day Calendar.) But first, a Submission match between Delirious and Sonjay Dutt.
Submission match: Delirious w/Daizee Haze vs. Sonjay Dutt
Delirious immediately jumped Dutt, beating him down before using a couple of clotheslines and suplexes. Dutt avoided the Cobra Clutch, but not the Cobra Stretch. Dutt stopped the submission by working to his feet before running around the ring. Dutt dropped as he neared the ropes, sending Delirious to the floor. Delirious quickly recovered, yanking Dutt to the outside with him. Delirious used some fan’s hat as a smothering device. I guess that was Delirious’ lice check. Back in the ring, Delirious honed in on Sonjay’s left arm when Dutt missed a clothesline, sending Dutt’s arm into the steel ring post. Dutt caught Delirious coming with those swing boots off the ropes, out of the corner. Sonjay followed up by using a rope assisted dragon screw leg whip on Delirious’ left leg. Dutt felt good about his position after dropping on Delirious’ leg several times. Delirious stopped Dutt from unmasking him, flipping out of a belly to back suplex right after. Unfortunately for Delirious, he landed on the bad leg first, allowing Dutt to take him down again. Delirious wouldn’t be stopped, countering Dutt’s slam into a face plant, then the Cobra Stretch. Dutt worked his way to his feet, but Delirious refused to let go until Dutt elbowed Delirious in the face several time. Delirious kicked Dutt backwards, far enough to climb the ropes. Before Delirious could jump, Dutt pushed him off the top rope, sending Delirious back first into the steel barricades. Dutt’s attention turned from the leg to Delirious’ back. Delirious found himself locked in the tarantula after hitting the turnbuckles. Dutt had to relinquish the hold before the five count to avoid disqualification. Dutt yanked off one of Delirious’ mask tassels, using it to choke the masked man. Daizee called a foul from the apron, causing Sonjay to approach her. Dutt followed up by pushing Haze off the apron, into the guardrails in a sickening sight. The fans were seriously pissed as Dutt faked the Camel Clutch. Dutt used a modified muscle buster when he felt the match needed to continue just a little longer. Dutt retrieved a chair, but the referee refused Dutt’s usage of the weapon. With the referee distracted with his removal of the chair, Haze scaled the ropes, missile dropkicking Dutt to a great ovation. Delirious dragon suplexed Dutt into the Cobra Stretch, forcing Dutt to tap out.
Tonight, it’ll be Tyler Black & Colt Cabana vs. ROH World champion Austin Aries and Kenny King. Funny, you’ve got A-Double, K-Double, and C-Double…and then there’s Tyler.
We see a promo shot after Final Battle starring Austin Aries. Aries noted that everyone who has faced him for the belt hasn’t been able to beat him. Aries ran down Tyler Black’s failure to become the World champion before calling out Jim Cornette’s Pick 6 contenders to fall just like those before them.
Tonight, the brothers Briscoe battle. What do the boys from Delaware have to say about tonight’s contest? Mark and Jay argued over what not to hit on each other. Jay promised not to go after Mark’s knee if Mark avoids Jay’s balls. Mark didn’t take kindly to this because he didn’t want to get hit in the balls either. Both men agree that it’ll be no hits to the balls, eyes, or Mark’s knee. Oh yeah, and the winner buys beer.
Jay Briscoe vs. Mark Briscoe
Both men tested each other’s mat game as Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood talked about The Briscoes fighting in their backyard as a way to pass the time. The match took a lucha turn as Jay flipped Mark into a front guillotine. Mark made it to the ropes to save himself. Mark tried to pick up the pace after connecting with a spinning heel kick, but ended up getting head scissored. Mark took a snap mare into a dropkick to his face, giving Jay a two count. Another dropkick, and another two count for Jay. Mark caught Jay running, exploder suplexing his big brother. After a couple of chops, Mark used a gut-wrench suplex to set up his senton splash. Jay fired back from the corner after Mark pushed him against the turnbuckles. Jay flipped out of Mark’s belly to back suplex when the forearm exchange failed. Before Mark could do anything, Jay drilled him with that downward spiral in the corner. Mark rolled to the floor for haven, but Jay stopped that by diving on top of his baby brother. Mark was able to dropkick Jay out of the sky when he reentered the ring. Mark followed up with a flying forearm. Jay saved himself from the body scissors submission, leading to another fistfight. After blocking the Death Valley driver, Mark used a fisherman buster to send Jay rolling to the floor. Like his brother, Mark refused to give Jay an inch, somersaulting on top of Jay from the top rope. Both men rose, going fist to fist while the referee counted them down. They made it onto the apron, still throwing bones. They couldn’t make it in before the twenty count, making this a draw.
Jim Cornette hit the ring, reminding us that the referee’s decision is final. But he could restart the match. And The Briscoes loved that idea.
The bell sounded, leading to another fistfight. They fell into the corner, allowing Jay to make a climb. Mark tried to stop him, but got caught with his own super ace crusher. Mark valiantly kicked out before the three count. Jay hooked Mark for the Jay Driller. Mark stopped the match ender, putting Jay in two quick pinning predicaments. Jay kicked out, super kicking Mark into the corner behind him. Mark exploded out of the corner, kicking Jay in the face when Jay tried to get some momentum. Dragon suplex from Mark only gets him a two count. Jay reversed the Cutthroat Driver, rolling Mark up after hitting the ropes to win this contest. No hard feelings, and probably a whole lot of beer to go around between The Briscoes.
Last week, Erick Stevens turned on Necro Butcher, forming an alliance with The Embassy.
Prince Nana is here to introduce, “The Ghanaian Express Train,” Erick Stevens
Erick Stevens w/The Embassy vs. Harlem Bravado
Interesting, Harlem is a skinny, white kid. Right before they could conclude the honorable handshake, Stevens suplexed Bravado across the ring. Choo-choo rush into the lariat that turned Bravado inside out. Stevens followed up with the Doctor Bomb, making Hogewood scream, “SLAP THE PORPOISE,” to conclude this one. Well, it’s not over, because after the match, Stevens clotheslined the poor kid again.
After his loss to Austin Aries at Final Battle, Tyler Black had some words for A-Double. Black informed Aries that he took Austin to the limit in NYC. Being 23 years old, Black informed Aries that he has all the time in the world to become what he’s destined to be: ROH World champion.
ROH World champion Austin Aries & Kenny King vs. Tyler Black & Colt Cabana
Black wanted Aries, but Austin would only start with Cabana. Nice exchange between the two until Cabana monkey flipped Aries across the ring. Cabana wanted to tag Black in as he had a hold of Aries’ arm. Aries got free before the tag, tagging into King. King ran into an arm drag, allowing Black and Cabana to work over King’s arm while using it to prevent King from tagging out. Cabana whipped King into Aries as Austin attempted to tag in. Aries became the legal man again as the fans chanted for Tyler. Cabana and Black double clotheslined their opponents, sending them to the floor when King ran in to help Aries’ failure to down Colt. Cabana tossed King back in so Black could do some damage. Aries pulled Black outside when Black came off the ropes, only to be whipped into the guardrails instead of whipping Tyler. Black tagged out after the springboard clothesline. Cabana used a couple of elbows to set up the caperana. Instead, Aries tripped Cabana off the ropes. King and Aries started using quick tags to work over Cabana’s back. Hogewood noted Aries’ snake-like actions. Prazak followed up with a question of Aries being like a viper. That’s wonderful. Big flying back elbow by King. King took too much time dancing, allowing Cabana to clothesline Kenny off this feet. Before Cabana could tag out, Aries tagged in, knocking Black off the apron. Black recovered as Cabana atomic dropped the turning champion. Cabana rolled to his corner, tagging Black in to a huge ovation.
Black was on fire, back body dropping both opponents. Springboard attack aimed for Aries, but Austin moved, causing Black to land in the arms of King. Kenny spun Black, only for Tyler to counter his attack into a DDT. King fell to the floor with Aries, allowing Cabana to dive on top of them with the asai moonsault. Cabana lifted Aries and King off the floor so Black could somersault on his opposition. Black rolled Austin back in. Aries stopped the turnbuckle bomb, almost pinning him. When Black stopped the pin, he rolled backwards, kicking Aries on the back of his head. Austin stumbled into the corner, wide open for the flying @$$hole. Running forearm by Black on Aries before Black whipped Aries into Cabana’s butt. King ran in, stopping the Colt 45. King spun around, kicking Cabana into the spine buster. Rocket launcher double team on Cabana, but Colt refused to stay down. Shotgun knees/IED combination by King and Aries left Cabana lying. Somehow, Colt kicked out of Aries’ follow up pin on his own power. Aries floated over into the Last Chancery. Black ran in to save Colt, leading to a fistfight between Black and King. Spin kick from King, countered with a kick of his own by Black. King stopped the super kick off Black’s turnbuckle bomb with a flying knee. Austin and King wanted to use the spike piledriver, but Cabana stopped that with a back body drop. King’s body hit the ropes, crotching Aries in the process. Reverse Colt 45 on King allows Cabana to get the pin for his team
