ROH TV Episode 45 Featuring Tyler Black vs. Roderick Strong, Colt Cabana vs. Sonjay Dutt, And More
2/1/10: Last week, the main event for the 8th Anniversary Show was announced-Austin Aries defending the ROH World title against Tyler Black in a match that’ll have a winner because if it goes to a draw, it’ll go to the judges’’ decision-Roderick Strong, Kenny King, and Jim Cornette.
Jim Cornette informed us that tonight, it’ll be Tyler Black vs. Roderick Strong as requested by both men.
Rhett Titus vs. Delirious w/Daizee Haze Mike Hogewood and Dave Prazak pimped the 8th Anniversary Show main event before moving to a taped promo by Roderick Strong. Strong said that when he beats Tyler tonight, he’ll prove he deserves to be next in line to face the ROH World champion after NYC. At Final Battle 2009, Kevin Steen turned on El Generico. Why talk about it again this week? Because we want to know what Steve Corino has to say about it. Corino loved Steen turning on Generico because Steen got rid of the leech holding him back-according to Steve. Corino was getting a little frustrated with Kyle Durden stating that people in the locker room were putting the blame on Corino for Steen’s actions. Corino called over Alex “Sugarfoot” Payne to see if the rumors were true. Payne felt Steen and Corino should be ashamed of what happened. Poor Alex didn’t know that Steen was right behind him as he ran down the good name of “Mr. Wrestling”. Steen showed Payne his presence with a humiliating slap-down.
Colt Cabana vs. Sonjay Dutt Tyler Black wanted to speak on the main event tonight. Black promised to turn down no challenger when he becomes with ROH World champion. Black also knows he can beat Strong, and he’ll prove it tonight. The Kings of Wrestling reunited to beat down The Briscoes at Final Battle 2009. What do the Kings have to say? Chris Hero put over the dominance of the KOW before their breakup over three years ago. But now, they are more mature, and understand that they can dominate tag team wrestling once again. Kyle Durden stood in the ring with Shane Hagadorn and Prince Nana to ask how they worked together to bring the Kings of Wrestling. Hagadorn and Nana put over their respective men until Eddie Kingston hit the ring. Kingston was here to find out who attacked him. Eddie naturally assumed it was the KOW. When they refused to give Eddie the answer he wanted, Kingston yoked both men. Nana calmed Eddie by telling him the truth: Erick Stevens and Joey Ryan did it. Ryan and Stevens ran to the ring, beating down Eddie until Necro Butcher made the save with a traffic cone. No, that’s not a typo. On 11/23/09, The Young Bucks and The American Wolves had an incredible match. Next week, we get the rematch.
Tyler Black vs. Roderick Strong
Neither man could get a solid advantage in the early moments, with both stopping holds with counter holds or quick escapes. All of a sudden, Austin Aries walked out with a box of popcorn and a bottle of champagne to watch the festivities. Black and Strong turned it up with some chops, ending with Strong dropkicking Black. As Black fought back, Aries threw popcorn in the ring in disgust. Dude, there’s a fat kid right behind you that would love that popcorn. Strong back dropped the running Black to the floor. Black landed in front of the champ, causing Aries to throw his bucket of popcorn on his future challenger. Black paid Aries back with a super kick. Strong capitalized on the situation by forearming Black when he stepped onto the apron before using a rope assisted, double underhook backbreaker. Another backbreaker by Strong got him a two count. Black ended up being twisted and tied in the ropes. The referee argued with Strong, allowing Black to recover. Strong turned Black’s sunset flip into another backbreaker. Tyler fought back after the jawbreaker, but ended up running into a power slam. Both men wanted to strike on their feet, causing a forearm/chop exchange. Black ended the exchange with the Pele kick. Hurricarana by Black sent Strong to the floor. Black tried to dive on Strong, but Roderick moved. Black reversed the Irish whip, elbowing Strong off his feet. Black used Strong’s position on the floor against him by moonsaulting on strong from the barricades. Back in the ring, Strong avoided the springboard clothesline, but not Paroxysm. Strong valiantly kicked out, using a modified sidewalk slam when Black came off the ropes. Strong chopped Black in position for a running forearm/kick to the face combination. Black tried to stop the superplex, but Strong ended Black’s fighting with an enzuguri. Superplex by Strong go the fans cheering hard.
