ROH TV Episode 46 Featuring The American Wolves vs. The Young Bucks, Main Event Truths, Dave Prazak Reads A Certain Report, And More

By James Bullock Feb 13, 2010 - 1:40 PM

2/8/10: Last week, Tyler Black faced his handpicked judge for the 8th Anniversary Show main event in the form of Roderick Strong. In the end, Black pinned Strong due to the interference of A-Double, causing dissension between Black and Strong.

Executive Producer Jim Cornette was here to greet us, and to welcome the man who is facing Austin Aries this Saturday night in NYC for the ROH World title, Tyler Black. Mike Hogewood compared Black/Aries in NYC for the belt II to the Super bowl. Black felt good about super kicking Aries to the back. Black never saw Aries return, apologizing for using Aries’ body helping Tyler beat Roderick. After proclaiming that he’d become the new champ Saturday night, Roderick Strong hit the ring to confront Black. Strong was here to tell Black that Aries beat Strong, not Tyler. Strong promised to give the win to the best man in NYC if it comes to the judges, but Roderick questioned if Black is the better man between Tyler and Aries. Black saw the only way to calm this situation between himself and the man who could be responsible for his World title aspirations was by verbally agreeing with Strong that Aries was the reason Roderick lost, not Tyler. Before Strong could leave, Black had to tell him that when he wins the ROH World title, Roderick will never beat him. Oh no he didn’t!

Kevin Steen & Steve Corino vs. Alex Payne & Bobby Dempsey
Last week, a clean-shaven Kevin Steen humiliated “Sugarfoot” Payne. Corino called out Dempsey, but Payne answered the challenge. Corino slapped Payne around until Payne used a sloppy head scissors to whip Corino across the ring. Payne used a drop toe hold to set Corino up for Dempsey’s big splash. Corino kicked out of Bobby’s follow up pin, throwing a slew of forearms that didn’t budge the big man. Payne reentered with a missile dropkick. Steen decided to get involved by yanking Payne to the floor, slamming him into the guardrails. Steen finally became the legal man, kicking Payne in the back while Steve kicked Payne’s chest. Steen and Corino were just abusing the sugary one. Somersault leg drop on Payne got a shocking two count. Payne countered Steve’s chop with diamond dust before tagging out. Dempsey was on fire, pitching Steen to the floor before body blocking Corino. Dempsey dropped the straps upon hearing Payne asking for the tag. Alex almost got the pin off the rocket launcher. Steve quickly recovered, using an inverted tombstone piledriver to set up the sliding clothesline. Steen tagged in, Package Piledriving Payne. Corino told Steen not to end with a pin, but a submission. And the submission came through a Sharpshooter.

Kyle Durden was with The American Wolves, who the fans have picked to fight The Young Bucks tonight. Davey Richards made sure we understood that no matter if they are the champs or not, they are the team to beat. Eddie Edwards felt bad that the fans chose them because The Wolves plan to end the ROH careers of The Young Bucks.

Dark City Fight Club vs. The Bravado Bros.
We don’t even get the names of the brothers before the DCFC destroy them with Project Mayhem. SLAP THE PORPOISE, IT’S OVER FOLKS!

Kyle Durden was in the ring with Kory Chavis and “Jonathan” Davis to ask about the fans picking The American Wolves to face The Young Bucks over them. Davis congratulated The Wolves on the contest win, but it all remains the same in their eyes. According to Chavis, the DCFC are doing a little title/headhunting, and all the tag teams of ROH are on notice.

Last week, it was revealed that Joey Ryan and Erick Stevens attacked Eddie Kingston. The incident almost replayed itself in the ring, but thankfully for Eddie, he had some backup in the form of the Necro Butcher. Next week, we get a tag team match involving the four men aforementioned.

We shoot to a promo of Prince Nana telling us about his origins and his plans-he’s from the Ashanti tribe in West Africa; he’s here to teach us how to live; The Embassy line up now is as strong as the ones in the past; Necro Butcher is nothing but a punching bag for The Embassy, and Necro is also on welfare.

Kyle Durden was in the ring with the ROH World champion Austin Aries and Kenny King. Aries noted that Jim Cornette was sucking up to Tyler Black by interviewing him while the champ’s stuck with Kyle Durden for the same job. Kenny put over Aries’ ruggedly handsome self, even though Black busted Austin’s lip with that super kick last week. Aries promised to prove that Black is nothing better than number two compared to A-Double. Aries decided to inform Black that A-Double stole a lady he had been courting in Chicago, causing Black to hit the ring with a flurry. The Briscoes, The Young Bucks, Delirious, and a whole bunch of refs held Black back as Aries and King egged him on.

#1 Contender match: The American Wolves vs. The Young Bucks
Before we could get this thing started, The Briscoes came down to ringside to make this match a #1 Contender match.
Matt Jackson and Davey Richards kicked this one off. Dave Prazak noted that some have said that The Bucks are this generation’s Rock & Roll Express. Wait, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, in The ROHbot Report, written by me. I guess we know where Prazak is getting all of his ROH news now. Okay, enough about me, lets get to the action. Davey used a hammerlock to pound the back of Matt’s head with forearms until Matt scooted to the ropes. The action returned to the mat, with Davey being headlocked. Davey got to his feet, going for a wild kick. Matt used to his advantage, head scissoring Davey before dropkicking out side. Edwards tried to run in, but got dropkicked through the ropes as well. The Bucks feigned stereo dives, causing The Wolves to scurry for haven. Davey wanted a timeout. When he didn’t get it, Richards kicked one of the ring crewmembers from his seat. You’d think they’d learn by now-never stay around Davey when he’s on the floor. Nick Jackson became the legal man after Edwards tagged in. Nick was able to dropkick Eddie after a couple of hip tosses. Nick lured Eddie into a drop toe hold for Matt’s slingshot leg drop. Another double team by The Bucks ended with Matt senton splashing Edwards as Nick held him across the middle rope. Eddie stopped the arm work being done to him by Matt, tagging out. Davey didn’t fare much better until he pushed Matt into The Wolves corner while being arm barred.
Eddie kicked Matt to free Davey, allowing Richards to run across the ring and knock Nick off the apron. Matt reversed and Irish whip, back body dropping Eddie so he could tag out. Nick tried to follow up on his brother’s momentum, but never saw the blind tag by Davey. Richards leapt over the top rope as Edwards tripped Nick, kicking Nick in the chest. Snap suplex by Davey got him a near fall. Richards distracted Matt and the referee after pitching Nick to the floor, allowing Eddie to slam Nick on the padded concrete. The Wolves were cutting the ring off with perfection until Davey went for the handspring enzuguri, getting dropkicked by Nick instead of hitting him. Matt tagged in, going wild on both Wolves. With Eddie on the top rope, Matt went for a super hurricarana. Davey stopped it, but almost got pinned in the process. Davey kicked out of Matt’s sunset flip, pushing him into a leaping lung blower by Eddie. Before Matt could drop, Richards hoisted him up, executing the tombstone piledriver. Somehow, Matt kicked out. When Matt got to his knees, Davey almost kicked his head off for another two count. The fans were behind The Bucks as Nick got whipped into the barricades. Couple of head-butts from The Wolves on Matt. Davey kept Nick grounded on the floor after tagging out as Edwards did the same to Matt in the ring. The Wolves went for a double team, but Matt fought back…or so he thought. Davey kicked Matt off his feet after Eddie slung Matt from the middle rope into Richards’ kick. Nick reversed and Irish whip on the floor, sending Davey into the guardrails. Right before Matt could tag out, Davey yanked Nick to the floor again. Matt countered the incoming Eddie with a back drop that sent him outside.
Nick couldn’t wait any longer, using a springboard face buster on Richards before moonsaulting on Eddie at ringside. Matt rolled to his corner, finally tagging out. Nick almost got a three count off the cross body. Nick countered Davey’s wheelbarrow suplex by bulldogging Davey for a near fall. Matt saved his brother from taking the Alarm Clock, giving The Bucks the chance to use that springboard moonsault/splash combo. Davey valiantly kicked out, stopping More Bang For Your Buck after Matt tagged in. Matt got caught in the ropes, getting dragon screw leg whipped by Eddie. Edwards wasn’t done, kicking and chopping Matt before whipping him out of the corner. Matt countered the whip, using a corkscrew ace crusher for a two count. Richards ran in, helping Edwards kick Matt in the face and the back of his head. Missile dropkick by Davey off of Eddie’s face buster, but it didn’t stop Matt. Nick tried to trip Davey, but Richards kicked him away. This gave Matt enough time to kick Eddie off his feet before using a reverse hurricarana on Davey. Running knee strike in the corner on Edwards by Nick. Eddie rolled out of the way to avoid More Bang For Your Buck. Matt didn’t know this, springing to the top rope for the moonsault portion of the move. Davey met him, German superplexing Matt across the ring.
Eddie hoisted Matt off the apron for the power bomb/backstabber combo. Somehow, Matt got his shoulders off the mat to stop the three count. Eddie floated Matt into the single leg Boston crab as Davey locked Nick in the Texas cloverleaf. The Bucks countered with double small packages as the fans chanted, “This is awesome!” The Wolves kicked out, using the Alarm Clock on the running Matt. Matt was able to recover, ducking Eddie’s super kick, causing Edwards to super kick Davey. Nick spun around, super kicking Eddie before helping his brother double super kick Richards. Nick clotheslined Edwards to the floor as Matt went for the pin on Davey. Everyone was in shock when Davey kicked out. More Bang For Your Buck on Davey.
Eddie stopped his partner from being pinned right before the three count. Nick was able to knock Eddie to the outside so he could somersault on him. Davey avoided whatever Matt had in mind from the top rope. Davey sidestepped Matt’s attack, sending him shoulder first into the steel ring post. Couple of kicks to Matt’s chest and head set up Davey’s DR Driver. Matt countered with a jackknife cradle, getting the upset pin on Davey, defeating The Wolves to earn their shot at The Briscoes Tag Team championship. Absolutely incredible contest that was better than their last match.
A dejected Wolves walked in the ring as Hogewood questioned what does the future hold for The Wolves.
