By James Bullock
Feb 17, 2010 - 7:42 PM
2/15/10: An Erick Stevens promo greets us this week. Stevens declares that he doesn’t care about the fans anymore, bringing forth a brand new Erick Stevens. Stevens also doesn’t care about who he hurts. According to Stevens, Nana ordered him to take down Necro Butcher. The scene shifted to Necro Butcher, who doesn’t understand why Stevens would attempt to make an enemy out of him, especially after Necro has defeated each Embassy member that’s come after him. Stevens wanted Necro to know that he could care less if he takes food out of Necro’s family’s mouths by hurting Butcher. Necro wanted The Embassy to know, “Be careful what you wish for, boys. ‘Cause you just might get it.”
Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood announce that Tyler Black has won the ROH World title by defeating Austin Aries this past Saturday night. Also, tonight it’ll be a Pick 6 ranking match between Kevin Steen and Delirious.
Erick Stevens & Joey Ryan w/The Embassy vs. Necro Butcher & Eddie Kingston
Before the announcer could finish the introductions, Kingston and Butcher hit the ring, causing the action to spill to the floor. Kingston whipped Ryan from one end of ringside to the other. Stevens had Butcher on the floor, clawing at his face. Necro fought back with those patented right hands. All of a sudden, Necro pulled out a plastic bag to suffocate Ryan. Wow, two suffocations on Ryan in two days (yes I know this is pre-taped, but you get the idea). Necro tossed Ryan from ringside to the crowd, back to ringside. After rolling Ryan in the floor mats, Necro used a modified senton splash to drive the wind out of “Magnum”. Eddie Kingston wanted to enter the ring to go after Stevens, but Nana stopped that. With Eddie trying to kick Nana away from the apron, Stevens rushed Eddie. Kingston flew from the apron, hitting the guardrails abdomen first.
The Embassy finally got an advantage, stopping Eddie from tagging out while working over Kingston’s midsection. Eddie hip tossed his way out of a “Magnum” abdominal stretch, but ended up walking into a right hand from Stevens before he could follow up. Necro tried to help his partner, with the referee stopping Necro. All Necro did was allow a double team on Kingston instead of helping him. Oklahoma stampede by Stevens on Kingston only got Erick a two count. Quick tags by Ryan and Stevens allowed them to keep Eddie grounded. Ryan hit the ropes, only to run into a belly to belly suplex. Kingston somehow made a tag before Ryan could grab him.
Necro was on fire, throwing right fists until both opponents were reeling. After sending Joey and Stevens to the floor, Necro got Eddie to hold Ryan and Erick up. Before Necro could dive on The Embassy, Ernesto Osiris tried to whack Necro with a chair. Butcher stopped it from happening, chasing off The Embassy with the chair. Nana held Stevens back, telling them to take the count-out loss instead of running into a chair beating.
Kyle Durden was with Kevin Steen, and that sharply dressed man, Steve Corino. When Durden asked about El Generico, Steen stopped him to ask Kyle a question of his own, “Do you know what it feels like to look in the mirror, and not like what you see?” Steen has felt like that for a while. But that all changed at Final Battle 2009, all thanks to Steve Corino. Steen wanted Durden to feel bad about what happens to masked wrestlers, starting tonight. Before Kevin left, he kissed Durden on the forehead in a Canadian version of the kiss of death.
Skullkrusher Rasche Brown vs. Christian Marino
Instead of shaking Brown’s hand as requested by Rasche, Marino tried to deck Brown. Shane Hagadorn shook his head as he watched the free agent known as Skullkrusher from the aisle. Palm strike to the chest, followed by a clothesline that turned Christian inside out. One Burning Hammer by Brown later, and, SLAP THE PORPOISE, IT’S OVER FOLKS!
Last week, The Young Bucks fought The American Wolves in an excellent contest that saw The Bucks earn a ROH World Tag Team title shot. Next week, we’ll see The Briscoes vs. The Young Bucks for the gold. But that’s not the only team looking for tag gold.
The Kings of Wrestling get a promo/video package to show how dominate they were years ago.
Jim Cornette is here to promise us that we won’t be seeing a whole bunch of old geezers sticking up the joint, especially in new locations such as Phoenix, AZ and Charlotte, NC. Also, the TV title tournament concludes on March 5 in Philadelphia, so get your tickets now.
Sonjay Dutt & Andy Ridge vs. Up In Smoke (Cheech & Cloudy)
What a weird tandem of Dutt and Ridge. Dutt answered why he’s picked such an odd partner: to prove his swagga level by picking any person from locker room to make a star. Ridge and Cloudy started off, with Cloudy outmaneuvering both Ridge, and Dutt when he tagged in. U.I.S. used a quick double team on Dutt that ended with Cheech executing a hilo before showing his swagga strut. Dutt grabbed the incoming Cheech by his tights, whipping him face first into the turnbuckles. Flying back elbow by Dutt, followed by some posing. Ridge tagged in, using his powerful right leg to kick Cheech. Cheech stopped Ridge’s superplex attempt, cart wheeling off the top rope. When Cheech landed on the mat, Dutt clotheslined him to end his acrobats. Cheech quickly recovered, causing Dutt and Ridge to collide with each other. Cloudy tagged in, getting some good shots in before running into those swinging boots in the corner by Dutt. Cloudy took a couple of “Right Leg” kicks in the corner. Cloudy was able avoid another kick, causing Ridge to hit Dutt. U.I.S. took advantage of this miscommunication, crushing Ridge with their rocket launcher senton double team to pick up their first win on HDNet.
Dutt grabbed the microphone, disgusted by Ridge’s lack of swagga before putting “Right Leg” in the Camel Clutch.
The six-time ROH Tag Team champions, The Briscoes, gave credit to The Bucks for beating them in NYC before they won the belts, but it’s a whole different ballgame now with the belts on the line.
Pick 6 Contender Series: Kevin Steen vs. Delirious w/Daizee Haze
Steen just watched as Delirious went crazy after the bell. Steen almost caught Delirious in the Package Piledriver when Delirious calmed down, causing a fist fight in the middle of the ring when Delirious broke free. The fists turned to chops, with Delirious getting the advantage, but almost getting caught in the Piledriver again. Delirious avoided the Sharpshooter off the double leg sweep. Hip toss by Delirious sends Steen to the floor. Steen took his time reentering; or should I say feigned reentering. Delirious fell into Steen’s trap of cat & mouse. After learning Steen’s routine and timing, Delirious caught him. Delirious blocked the power bomb across the apron, whipping Steen into the barricades. Delirious took too much time mouthing with the fans, getting caught on the top rope. Steen wringed Delirious’ left arm on the top rope, steel ring post, guardrails, and the floor, all while insulting the fans and the camera man. When Steen pushed Delirious back in, Steen allowed Delirious to attempt to Irish whip him. It only hurt Delirious’ arm, leaving him prone for Steen’s enzuguri. Side Russian leg sweep by “Mr. Wrestling” led to Kevin French kissing his left bicep in joy.
Wasn’t a joy for Hogewood’s eyes. Steen followed up with a shoulder breaker. Instead of going for the pin, Steen jawed with the Philly faithful. This almost gave Delirious the win as he cradled Steen off the distraction. Delirious blocked Steen’s suplex, using one of his own to turn the tides. Delirious dropped, pulling the ropes with him. Steen tumbled to the floor, leaving himself wide open for Delirious’ somersault off the top rope. Steen avoided Delirious’ flying attack, but not the DDT that gained Delirious a two count. Delirious couldn’t lock in the Cobra Stretch due to his arm. Steen ran into a couple of clotheslines before being downed by a flying version. Delirious rushed Steen, only for Steen to power bomb him into the Sharpshooter. Delirious somehow made it to the ropes to save himself. Delirious flipped out of the Package Piledriver. Steen sidestepped an attack, using an arm breaker to drop Delirious. Delirious got his knees us to stop the Swanton. Somehow, Delirious cobra suplexed Steen for a near fall. All of a sudden, Steve Corino came to ringside.
Daizee Haze and the referee argued with Corino after Delirious lunged at him. Steen kicked the middle rope, driving it into Delirious’ groin. Corino couldn’t believe it when Delirious kicked out of Steen’s follow up pin off the pumphandle neck breaker. Delirious avoided the cannonball in the corner, using the Panic Attack on the prone Steen. Delirious ran to the top rope for Shadows Over Hell. Steen saw it coming, grabbing Delirious’ left arm out of midair, locking him in an arm bar. Delirious had no choice but to tap out.
