ROH TV Episode 48 Featuring The Briscoe vs. The Young Bucks For The Gold, Rhett Titus vs. El Generico, And More

By James Bullock Feb 24, 2010 - 5:51 PM

2/22/10: At Ring of Honor’s 8th Anniversary Show, Tyler Black made sure the judges had no say in his World Title shot against Austin Aries when he made history by becoming the new ROH World champion.

El Generico vs. Rhett Titus
Titus got his room key swiped by some dude, who got a kiss on the cheek for his trouble. I don’t know if I’d save my girlfriend from kissing Titus by becoming a recipient of an “Addicted To Love” kiss. But when she kissed me, all I would think of is Titus on her lips. I guess it’s a no win situation. The fans thought about the disgusting sight of man on man action, causing them to inform Titus that he sucks even though he was outwrestling Generico in the opening minutes. Generico took an insulting slap to the face, using it to fire him up before unleashing a slew of right hands off the double leg takedown. Titus tried to find haven on the floor, but Generico used the position somersault on top Rhett. After pushing Titus back in, Generico scaled the ropes. Titus avoided Generico’s cross body block, allowing the tide to turn in Titus’ favor again. Generico fought out of the chin lock, only to run into an atomic drop. Titus took too much time thrusting, giving Generico the chance to recover. Generico used that running tornado DDT to get a two count. Titus threw his boots up after Generico whipped him into the turnbuckles to knock Generico backwards. Generico quickly recovered, hitting a Michinoku Driver for two. Titus stopped Generico’s Brain Buster with his version of the codebreaker. Running blockbuster by Titus gained Rhett a near fall. Titus felt good after the Irish whip, turning his back to Generico. Generico exploded out of the corner, yakuza kicking Titus before executing a half nelson suplex. Titus was close enough to the ropes to save himself, causing Generico to argue with the referee, then himself. Titus feigned a neck injury, luring Generico into the small package to shockingly pin Generico.

Colt Cabana was with Kyle Durden to talk about Cabana’s buddy El Generico. Cabana felt bad about Generico’s mental state, but couldn’t finish his thoughts because something was going on in the parking lot. That something was Necro Butcher looking for Erick Stevens. Necro demanded a parking lot security guard to find Stevens and bring him to Butcher.

Colt Cabana vs. Bobby Shields
Cabana was having fun with Bobby, paying him back for the slaps Bobby felt were smart to throw. Bobby ducked the short-arm clothesline, but it didn’t help Shields much. Flying @$$hole into a bionic elbow. Cabana locked Bobby in the Billy Goat’s Curse, forcing the poor young man to tap out.
Steve Corino came out to inform “Boom Boom” to watch who he sticks up for.

Next week, The American Wolves take on Dark City Fight Club. Tonight, the ROH World Tag Team title is on the line when The Briscoes defend against The Young Bucks.

In the parking lot, Erick Stevens had Necro in a front face lock as Prince Nana cheered his boy. The action spilled into the arena where a few referees attempted to break up this unscheduled brawl. More officials and wrestlers came to ringside, but got punched out, Mike Tyson style.

During the commercial break, Stevens Oklahoma slammed Butcher on a stack of chairs. Eddie Kingston ran Stevens off before any more damage could be done.

At the 8th Anniversary Show, Tyler Black achieved his dream of becoming the ROH World champion.

Kyle Durden was with Jim Cornette, promised to reprimand Necro Butcher for his beating of officials. Cornette also had an idea for a tag team match for next week: Austin Aries & Kenny King vs. ROH World champion Tyler Black & Roderick Strong.

ROH World Tag Team title: The Briscoes (c) vs. The Young Bucks
Matt Jackson and Mark Briscoe kicked this title match off. Both men jockeyed on the mat for an advantage. When neither man did anything to help himself, Mark and Matt tagged their respective brothers. Nick turned up the pace, head scissoring Jay before tagging out. Matt whipped Jay into the corner as Dave Prazak rattled off that some have said that The Bucks are this generation’s Rock & Roll Express. Wait, where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, in The ROHbot Report, written by me. I guess we know where Prazak is getting all of his ROH news now. Okay, enough about me, lets get back to the action. Downward spiral in the corner on Matt by Jay turned the tides in the favor of the ROH Tag Team champions. Mark returned as the legal man, suplexing Matt before tagging his brother in again. Matt got whipped into Jay’s back elbow, getting a two count for Jay. Matt turned a headlock against Jay, bringing in his brother for that neck breaker/backbreaker double team. Mark saved Jay from taking another double team by pulling Matt to the floor. Nick ran into Jay’s spine buster as Mark slung Matt against the barricades.
Double team shoulder tackle by The Briscoes plowed through Nick. Quick tags and high impact strikes from the champions made sure Nick stayed on his back until they wanted otherwise. And that otherwise came during that double hip toss that saw Nick fly ¾ of the way across the ring. Jay followed up with a double stomp to Nick’s ribs when the Jackson kicked out of his pin attempt. Once again, The Briscoes cut the ring off by keeping Nick grounded near their corner. Nick scooted to the ropes to stop Mark’s figure four headlock. Nick attempted to fight his way to his brother. When that didn’t work, Nick used his agility to spring over Mark, face busting him. Both men tag out, causing Matt and Jay to go blow for blow in the ring. Matt rolled underneath Jay’s clothesline; head scissoring the Briscoe on the rebound. Nick dropkicked Mark off the apron when Mark kicked Matt Jackson in the back to stop Matt from running. Nick double stomped Jay into Matt’s reverse DDT before sailing through the ropes to tope Mark. Jay kicked out right before the three count as the fans chanted for the challengers. Matt wanted to springboard Nick into Jay for a dropkick. Instead, Nick got clotheslined out of the sky. Mark ran in, spinning heel kicking Nick when he stumbled to his feet. Mark caught the flying Matt Jackson, executing an exploder suplex on him. Jay was showing signs of fatigue as Mark tagged him in. Mark used a somersault plancha to down Matt on the floor as Jay hit the Death Valley Driver on Nick. Couple of clotheslines from the champs to set up an elbow drop/sidewalk slam combination. Somehow, Nick kicked out before the three count. Mark jumped off the top rope after planning Nick up there with him for an ace crusher. Matt slid into the ring, power bombing Mark as he fell out of the sky. Nick had to use everything in his reserves to make it to his brother to tag out.
Mark and Matt were throwing slaps galore until Matt went for a super kick. Matt ran up the ropes, only to be pulled off by Mark’s iconoclasm. All four men were in the ring, slugging away as the crowd chanted for both teams. The Briscoes took The Bucks’ super kicks, unleashing a pair of their own that ended with all four men on their backs. Matt stopped the Cutthroat Driver, allowing Nick to knee Mark in the face. This left Mark in position for More Bang For Your Buck, but Mark got his knees up to stop Nick’s opening sequence. The Briscoes put Matt on the top rope, using a super neck breaker double team that folded the Jackson in half. Before The Briscoes could get the three count, Nick Jackson broke up their pin. Nick saved his brother from taking a spike Jay Driller. When Nick scaled the ropes to dive on Mark on the floor, the champion sidestepped it, sending Nick into the barricades. Jay hoisted Matt onto his shoulders after avoiding a wild cross body block. Doomsday Device on Matt allows The Briscoes to successfully defend their ROH World Tag Team championship.
Honorable handshake by both teams ends this week’s show.
