The ROHbot Report: Chicago PPV Taping Results, Worth Your Money: Driven II, St. Louis Main Event Announced, Bobby Dempsey's Journey To The Top, and More
By James Bullock
How you doing this day? Still stuffed from Thursday? Well, I’ve got something else for you to digest, the ROHbot Report. Today I give you the promised PPV edition of Worth Your Money (for the two of you who still haven’t ordered the show), as well as results of the Chicago pay-per-view taping, and the fallout from it. Well, lets get started with Chicago’s possible landscape changing show. Chicago, IL 11/22/08
Pre-Show After, arguably, a few lackluster events, ROH pulled out a homerun with this show. Every ROHbot is raving about it, saying it was the best Chicago show in quite some time. The debate of the best match of the show has been split down the middle between the last two matches. One was one of the most violent, bloody matches in ROH history (with an added surprise return of Lacey), while the other continued the streak of great matches between two of the best today. I honestly can’t wait to see this show on pay-per-view. I am disappointed in the opener, though. While I’ve been greatly anticipating the PPV rematch between The Briscoes and Steenerico, I feel ROH blew a big opportunity on this show. From what we know, Mark Briscoe injured his knee the night before, and wasn’t anywhere near 100%, causing the match to go real short. I mean less than ten minutes short. Then, The Briscoes lost. Now don’t think I believe The Briscoes should always win. But they have a nice little undefeated streak going on pay-per-view, and having that end in under ten minutes in messed up. I know they can state that Mark was hurt, and that’s why they lost, but they could’ve waited for a little bit, see how much time Mark has to take off, then given us the match. Even though I’ve been very vocal about Joe’s return match with Black, seemingly it didn’t turn out to be anything more than a great showing for Black against a man everyone knew wouldn’t lose. In the end, neither man came out looking any stronger or weaker. At least Joe didn’t crush Black in less than ten minutes (reports say the match went near twenty). Joe also put over the company in a big way after his match, even refusing to stop the “F*** TNA,” chants. I’m not looking into this as a sign he’s coming back (cue Gregory Helms), I just saying.
One thing we can report is that Bryan Danielson has selected Jerry Lynn as his tag team partner for the main event of the ROH event in St. Louis on 12/5! This choice has several ramifications. Not only has Lynn been the target of some choice comments from McGuinness is the recent past, but as was previously announced, Lynn will try to defeat McGuinness for the ROH Title on 12/6 in Nashville. Not only that, but just recently announced for 12/26 in Philadelphia, Lynn will oppose Danielson himself in a first-time ever dream match. More on this as it develops. Well, this is rather interesting to say the least. I don’t know why I didn’t think about Jerry Lynn, as his history with Nigel since returning to ROH warrants him to be Danielson’s pick more than anyone else. I don’t think we’ll see some miscommunication between Lynn and Danielson, ending with Team Europe getting the win. I have a good feeling Lynn will pick up the fall in this match, gaining some momentum for Nashville. Who knows, we might have a Terry Funk Barely Legal moment in Nashville. Yeah, I know it’s not a PPV taping, but you never know.
I like this idea, even though it seems like lambs sent to slaughter no matter who wins. Don’t act like you think any team that faces Sasaki and Nakajima have a chance at winning. Oh, you say since they’re coming back so soon that they’ll pay ROH back by doing the job, specifically Nakajima. I laugh at you. Either way, The Briscoes vs. the Japanese Contingent would be mighty interesting.
Should be a great match, but I was hoping that Aries would be done with the AOTF completely after Chicago. I think it’s time for Aries to move on. But if this is needed to get Black ready for his split from Jacobs and his accession to full-time main event status, I’m all for it. Larry Sweeney sent Bobby Dempsey into action this past weekend in Dayton, and he was ever impressive in victory. The huge ovation for Dempsey by the Dayton fans did not seem to sit well with Sweeney, who lambasted Dempsey at every turn, even with the win. We've confirmed that Dempsey is scheduled be in action on both 12/5 and 12/6. The official “Bobby Dempsey Will Trump Nigel In 2009” countdown begins now. One could reasonably argue that Claudio Castagnoli cost Bryan Danielson the ROH World Title last Saturday in Chicago with an attack on Danielson's already injured leg, also suffered at the hands of Castagnoli in Dayton. Rumor has it that Castagnoli immediately began lobbying the ROH Booking Committee for another shot at Danielson after his loss in Dayton, and that 12/6 in Nashville is his target date for the rematch. We have it on good authority that both competitors will address this in this week's Video Wire which will be available for viewing on Wednesday.
It has been confirmed via the Video Wire that Danielson and Claudio will face off in a No DQ match. After their match in Dayton, Claudio bashed Danielson’s knee with a chair several times, softening him up for Nigel and for future matches against the Swiss Nightmare. Also in the Video Wire is a hilarious scene between Grizzly Redwood and Danielson. I won’t give away the details, but I can say that the lumberjack gimmick went to the wrong person. The Necro Butcher said he'd find someone as "crazy" as him to battle the Age of the Fall in St. Louis. We now know who his partner will be. Fresh off his return to ROH in Chicago along side Brent Albright and Roderick Strong, "Crazy" Ace Steel has stepped up and told the Butcher that he will stand along side him! It will be Ace and the Butcher teaming on 12/5 to face Jimmy Jacobs and Delirious. Daizee Haze will also be on hand in St. Louis, facing Shimmer Champion and AOTF member, MsChif. ROH officials have been informed that the Haze has sent Necro some correspondence as recently as last Sunday. Wow, that has to be one of the craziest matches ever signed in ROH history. You’ve got the crazy Chicago troll teaming up with the West Virginia wildman to face the masochistic revolutionary leader and his mentally unstable, heartbroken masked soldier. You can’t make this stuff up. Hopefully Daizee Haze and MsChif will follow up on the trend MsChif and Del Rey set in Chicago with another great women’s match. If it’s anything close to their Shimmer match up, then they’ll have no problems.
We’ve known Necro to go in a war by himself, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it was a handicap match. But I think this is Necro’s chance to take out Delirious in his trek toward Jimmy Jacobs one on one. Just one thought, where is Brodie? Irish Airborne came up short in their ROH return in Dayton, falling to the hyper-aggressive Briscoe Brothers. The Airborne will return to ROH action in Nashville on 12/6 as they will face the interesting duo of Grizzly Redwood and Bushwhacker Luke Williams! Comedy, thy name will be a tag match.
While the building to the process of eliminating seconds and managers has been a little questionable (the Lights Out match), I like that it gives hope that the babyfaces have a chance in winning. Why do I think Sweeney will have some kind of trick up his fancy sleeve? Since we last reported that Ernie Osiris was accepting donations for "a battery-operated beard trimmer" and "semi-decent ring gear", he hasn't been heard from. Sources indicate that he may have been last seen sleeping in a subway car somewhere around Shea Stadium. If anyone has seen Ernie Osiris or knows of his whereabouts, please contact the ROH offices. People, I’m pleading with you, help find him. I’ve heard he’s actually hanging around the boiler room of the stadium with Rellik. Here’s a little update on the DVD subscription service ROH will be offering.
Along with the Direct TV deal came news that Ring of Honor would begin to offer subscription packages of their DVDs. You can buy six DVDs for $119.95, ten DVDs for $189.95 and twenty DVDs for $339.95. The DVD's under this package, regularly priced at $20 a piece would cost a consumer $120.00, $200.00 and $400.00. Of course, that does not take into account that ROH frequently (in fact every week now) runs sales, including varying percentages off and buy 3, get 1 free. The major advantages of this new subscription service would be the savings from shipping prices—which are included in the fee.
As you can see, I was right in my assumption that the deals would cut down on the cost between a semi-regular purchase and the subscription. While the six DVD deal wouldn’t be much of a help outside of eliminating the shipping cost, the ten and twenty DVD set is an incredible deal. You’re saving near forty and fifty dollars respectively. This is a great service that I hope many people take up on.
Cary Silkin is said to be excited about the ROH product because right now because for the first time he has creative input. Well I’m happy that Cary’s happy. I just can’t believe he had no creative input during the Gabe years. He owns the company, you’re telling me he had little to no say on the creative side of things. Or did he just trust Gabe so much that he just didn’t bother? Well, I would, so can’t knock him if he did. I know it’s been on for two weeks now, but there is still a few of you out there that are probably wondering if ROH’s newest pay-per-view offering is worth spending your money on instead of getting that early Christmas gift for little Susie. If one of those people, then I have an answer for you, because today we look at Driven II, and if it’s Worth Your Money. Driven 2 Aired 11/14/08 Boston, MA Austin Aries is in the ring in front of a raucous crowd to say the least. Aries is here to take down the Age of the Fall and Jimmy Jacobs by making Jacobs suffer, right now. Jimmy Jacobs came out, not to answer Austin’s challenge, but to talk about how his movement was going to bring down the dreams of Kevin Steen and El Generico tonight in the main event. But Jacobs did have a surprise for Aries in the form of the AOTF’s newest member, Delirious, who came out of the crowd, attacking Aries from behind. Austin Aries vs. Delirious w/Jimmy Jacobs Delirious had Aries fighting for air as he choked him with his ring jacket. Aries had to uranage his way out of a bad situation before hitting the power drive elbow. Aries wanted to dropkick Delirious in the corner, but a distraction from Jacobs allowed the masked man to recover and move in time to avoid it. Delirious went for the Cobra Clutch, but couldn’t lock it in, causing Delirious to move into a butterfly lock. Aries refused to submit, rushing Delirious into the corner behind him. Delirious had to bite Aries in the face to stop him for the Panic Attack. Aries rolled through the move, locking in the Last Chancery. Delirious clawed Aries’ eyes to break free, going for the Cobra Clutch again. Aries ran toward the ropes, dropping down to send Delirious sailing through them. Aries got a running start in the ring, taking both Jacobs and Delirious down with the heat-seeking tope. Aries refused to let Delirious recover, kneeing him in the face before using the ropes to neck break Delirious. Delirious fought his way out of the Brain Buster, cobra clutch suplexing Aries on his head. Delirious rushed Aries with the Panic Attack three times in a row. Jacobs jumped onto the apron, begging for more. This didn’t help Delirious as Aries got up, dropkicking Delirious in the face three times before drilling Delirious with the Brain Buster. Aries wasn’t done, kneeing Delirious in the head before locking in the Last Chancery to make Delirious submit. Jacobs ran into the ring, knocking Aries out with the Tag title belt. Aries was bleeding from the forehead as Tyler Black entered the ring. Black wanted Jacobs to stop because of their title defense later on tonight. Jacobs ignored Black’s plea, senton splashing Aries through a table on the floor. We see clips of the last PPV, New Horizon, to get us ready for the rest of the show. Sweet & Sour Inc. was in full force, with Sweeney bragging about the greatness of the group, including Sara Del Rey, who would fight right now. Sara Del Rey vs. Jessie McKay Del Rey just kills the poor girl with a series of kicks, then the Royal Butterfly to quickly end this showcase. Sweeney wasn’t done. Sweeney wanted to piece of Brent Albright and Erick Stevens right now to face Adam Pearce and Eddie Edwards. Erick Stevens & Brent Albright vs. Adam Pearce & Eddie Edwards w/Sweet & Sour Inc. Albright and Stevens rush the ring, double back dropping both men. Pearce was able to pitch Albright over the top, to the floor, leaving Stevens by himself. Stevens valiantly fought back, avoiding a clothesline to tag out to Albright, who suplexed Edwards before pounding on Pearce’s head. When Eddie and Pearce tried to double clothesline Albright, Stevens caught them with a double clothesline of his own. Edwards was able to reverse Albright’s whip into the ropes, sending him into Pearce, who got in a knee, giving Edwards the chance to drop the NWA champion and his partner. Eddie went for a springboard cross body, but Albright turned it into a power slam that allowed Albright to tag out to Stevens, who got enzuguri’ed after missing the choo-choo rush. Stevens recovered, using the press and slam to get a near fall on Eddie. Albright was shown in great pain due to his right arm. Albright fought through the pain, helping Stevens ping-pong both opponents before giving them a meeting of their minds. Pearce pulled Albright to the floor, slamming him into the guardrails. Stevens grabbed the reentering Pearce, slamming him before knocking all of Sweet & Sour down. Pearce didn’t notice the blind tag Albright made before Pearce threw Stevens to the floor. Albright grabbed Pearce from behind, dumping him on his head with the Half-Nelson Suplex to pick up the win for his team. Before Chris Hero could leave with his crew, Jerry Lynn met him on the ramp. Lynn understood that wrestling takes a toll on the body, especially after twenty years like his. Lynn refused to allow that to stop him from teaching a bunch of cheap shot artists, mainly Chris Hero, what it means to be a wrestler. ROH was glad to allow Lynn to teach Hero a lesson tonight. Jerry Lynn vs. Chris Hero Lynn was one step ahead of Hero in the early going, leg dropping the back of Hero’s head when Hero went for a shoulder ram. Hero countered a splash by throwing his knees up before focusing on the arm of the former ECW champion. Lynn used his incredible agility to break free of the arm lock, going after Hero’s. Hero elbowed his way out of the arm work, using them to knock Lynn loopy. The boots also helped stagger Lynn, but not enough to stop Lynn from getting that speed going long enough to cross body block Hero. Hero raked the eyes of Lynn to stop that movement. Hero moved to the floor, slamming Lynn on the unprotected floor, bringing a smile to Hero’s face. Hero wanted to follow up with a suplex to the same area, but got dropkicked off the apron instead. Lynn wiped out Hero with the somersault senton off the apron when “That Young Knockout Kid” got up. Hero recovered quickly, rushing Lynn back first into the side of the ring. Hero followed up with the running atomic drop, honing in on the lower back of Mr. JL. Lynn turned a slam attempt into a reverse DDT. Lynn executed a few sentons to show that he could do it just as well as Hero. Lynn avoided the running big boot, tornado DDT’ing Hero for a near fall. Lynn hooked Hero for the Cradle Piledriver, but Hero got underneath Lynn, using the snake eyes to set Lynn up for the Roaring Elbow. Hero had to follow up with a series of elbows when Lynn kicked out. Lynn countered the blockbuster, setting up for the Piledriver. Shane Hagadorn distracted Lynn while Eddie Edwards did the same to the referee. Sara Del Rey ran out, throwing a loaded elbow pad to Hero so he could knock out Lynn for the three count. We look at the confrontation between ROH World champion and Bryan Danielson at Respect Is Earned II. The Claudio Castagnoli heel turn from Death Before Dishonor VI is shown next to give us a backdrop for the next match. Elimination: Bryan Danielson vs. Go Shiozaki w/Larry Sweeney vs. Claudio Castagnoli Danielson is all business here, jumping Castagnoli before his intro was done. Go sat back and watched as Danielson struggled to put Claudio in Cattle Mutilation. Go slipped in when Claudio crushed Danielson in the corner, clotheslining Claudio to the floor before powering “Dragon” down. Danielson dropped Go, going for the surfboard. Claudio stopped Danielson with a big boot before kneeing Go down. Danielson got up, trying to uppercut Claudio down. Castagnoli powered Bryan off the mat, overhead slamming him for a two count that was broken up by Shiozaki. Go chopped Claudio backwards, allowing Danielson to kick Go when Claudio ducked to avoid the German suplex. Danielson followed up with a knee to the stomach of Claudio, leaving Castagnoli open for a kick to the back by “Dragon.” Danielson tried to elbow Claudio down, but got flapjacked into a European uppercut. Claudio was determined to pound away on Danielson as he was stuck against the turnbuckles, causing the referee to get between them. Claudio grabbed the ref, suplexing him across the ring before Ricola Bombing Danielson. It was announced that Castagnoli was disqualified and eliminated because of the referee attack. Claudio didn’t care, grabbing a chair for the head stomp on Danielson. Officials came out to stop him, but Claudio was wild. It took a whole slew of wrestlers to hold Claudio, pulling him to the back. Go began to smile when he saw the physical predicament Danielson was in. Go entered the ring, taunting Danielson with slaps and kicks to the face after some thunderous chops. Go dragged Danielson until his head was hanging off the apron for the running knee. The fans began to cheer on Danielson as Go clotheslined Bryan over and over again. Danielson heard the crowd, uppercutting Go out of the sky when Shiozaki jumped off the middle rope. Danielson flipped up the turnbuckles after an Irish whip, forearming Go on the rebound. Danielson grabbed Go, using the elbows to the side of the head to set up for Cattle Mutilation. Shiozaki somehow made it to the ropes after two sets of elbows. Shiozaki broke free from the crossface chickenwing, chopping and clotheslining Danielson for another near fall. Shiozaki was just chopping Danielson over and over again, seemingly knocking him out. Shiozaki connected with super kick in preparation for the moonsault. Danielson caught Shiozaki on the way down, putting him in a triangle choke. Go tried to fight it, but passed out to give Danielson a much-needed victory in his quest to face the World champion at the next pay-per-view. Tag Team Scramble: Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. Vulture Squad w/Julius Smokes vs. The YRR vs. Necro Butcher Jigsaw and Jason Blade kick off the usually wild contest with some indy-rific action until a swat by Kenny King on Jigsaw. Ruckus had to come in to help Jigsaw with the double stomp, followed by the twisting splash. King ran in, kicking Ruckus upside down. The Briscoes charged in, beating the crap out of King. Jay clotheslined King out of the ring for Mark to jump on top of him. But Mark was stopped by Blade, allowing King to do the same to the stunned Jay. Mark recovered, only to get punched down b Necro, who was punching and big footing everyone down. Necro followed up by tossing and back dropping everyone to the floor before climbing to the top. Necro somersaulted off the top, onto everyone except Julius Smokes. Necro and The Briscoes were battling on the floor as Ruckus double stomped King into Jigsaw’s Jig N’ Tonic. On the floor, The Briscoes had set up a slew of chairs to suplex Necro on. Before doing so, The Briscoes stopped The Squad from finishing off Jason Blade, pushing them off the top rope. Necro ran in, knocking The Briscoes out of the ring before Tiger Driving Blade. Mark stopped Necro’s three count with a chair dropkick. The Briscoes went to their roots on Necro, knocking him out of ring, into the pile of chairs on the floor. The Briscoes finished off Blade with the Springboard Doomsday Device, bringing their record to 8-0 on pay-per-view. We get some promos from the next match’s participants, Roderick Strong and Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World title. ROH World title: Nigel McGuinness (c) vs. Roderick Strong Semi-honorable handshake to start this one off followed by both men vying for a solid advantage on the mat. Nigel seemed to be one step ahead of Roderick when it came to the wrestling, but Strong had the explosiveness that Nigel couldn’t contend with, ending with Nigel having a bloody lip. That explosiveness helped Roderick unleash a vicious chop to the champ’s chest, sending Nigel into retreat. This only allowed Roderick to catch McGuinness in a couple of backbreakers. Roderick tried to go to the top, but got caught in a unique arm breaker similar to Island Driver. Roderick rolled to the floor to get the pain out of his arm, only to get caught between the guardrails and Nigel. Strong tried to chop his way out of the bad situation, causing a “USA” chant to spread throughout the crowd. Nigel didn’t appreciate the patriotism, running Strong left shoulder first into the steel again. When the action returned the ring, Nigel kept his focus on the left arm of his challenger. Nigel even got some work in on the other arm with that side body stretch. Nigel lured Strong into a false sense of security by begging Strong to chop him, only to catch Strong with the hammerlock divorce court. Nigel decided to show his powerful chops before poking Strong in the eyes. Nigel caught the blind Strong with the mule kick when Strong tried to pick up the pace. Nigel had to do the same thing with a rolling back elbow when Strong tried to chop his way out o the corner. Strong somehow recovered, dropkicking Nigel when the action spilled to the floor, knocking McGuinness down with a flying forearm off the apron. Strong hooked Nigel with the leg cradle backbreaker, then a spinning arm cradle backbreaker for two near falls. The fans were getting up as Strong chopped Nigel. The champ reversed an Irish whip, kicking and swatting Strong in the corner. Nigel was looking for the step up European uppercut in the corner, but got gut-busted and yakuza kicked instead. Strong was getting the fans on his side as he set up for the Gibson Driver. Nigel blocked it, turning Strong into a Lariat. Nigel was looking for the Tower of London, but Strong fought out of it. Nigel avoided Strong’s attack, knocking him down with another Lariat. After an unsuccessful pin, McGuinness executed the Tower of London. Strong was close enough to the ropes to save himself. The champ put Strong on the top for another Lariat. Strong ducked it, hitting the slingshot power slam for a close two count. Strong got up, catching Nigel with a couple of clotheslines, followed by a backbreaker on the top turnbuckle that ended with Nigel spiking his head on the mat. The fans were on their feet as Nigel kicked out at two. Nigel went the mule kick again, but got caught on the top rope with a slew of chops. After a half-nelson backbreaker, Strong hit the ropes, running into another Lariat. Nigel put Strong on the top dropping Strong on his head with the Lariat for a shocking two count. Nigel hoisted Strong up, putting him on the top turnbuckle for the Tower of London on the apron. Still, Strong refused to stay down for three seconds. Strong somehow beat McGuinness to the Lariat, using the Gibson Driver for a two count that was as close as you can get. The crowd even proclaimed, “That was three!” Strong was looking for a super Gibson Driver, but Nigel Lariated his way out of it. And Strong still kicked out. McGuinness then went Lariat crazy, finishing Strong off with the Tower of London.
ROH World Tag Team title: Age of the Fall (Jimmy Jacobs & Tyler Black) (c) vs. Kevin Steen & El Generico No honor to start this one, with the challengers beating the champions out of the ring. Jacobs was visibly hurting from that senton on Aries through the table earlier in the evening. Jacobs quickly lured Generico into his corner, tagging in Black. Generico did the same to Black, bringing in the big man. Black stopped the power of Steen by putting him in a headlock. Kevin, showing that amazing agility, nipped out of an arm bar, forearming Black in the face before tagging out to Generico. The fans were thoroughly against the champs, booing anything they did. Generico gave them a reason to cheer as he had both men bouncing. Steen came in, focusing on Jacobs’ back before taunting Black by mocking Jacobs and his hurt body. Generico helped drop toe hold Jacobs into Steen’s somersault leg drop. Steen helped Generico by power bombing the masked man on top of Jacobs. Black was able to get a shot in on the running Generico, distracting him long enough for Jacobs to recover and clothesline Generico to the mat. Black tagged back in, trying to grounded the fast Generico. Generico slipped around Black, belly to back suplexing Black so he could tag out to Steen. Steen forearmed and kicked Black down. Steen was aware of Jacobs at all times, telling Generico to do the same when Generico tagged in. Generico didn’t do a good job of it, getting stuck on the top rope by Jacobs. Generico chopped Jacobs away, jumping off the top. Black, showing some impressive power, caught Generico slamming him over the top, to the floor. The champs just double punched Generico as he laid on the mat, infuriating Steen. Jacobs made sure to keep his back to Steen to prevent Generico from tagging out. Black got involved in it, helping Jacobs make a wish on Generico’s groin. “The Masked Luchador” was in bad shape as Black tossed him to the floor, allowing Jacobs to get in some cheap shots as Steen tried to inform the ref of the illegal actions. Generico tried to fight back, but was taken down by the now legal Jacobs. Jacobs held Generico to the mat after a double stomp/senton splash combo, causing Steen to turn the referee’s attention from Black, who whipped Generico into the steel guardrails. The fans began the “ole” chant to get Generico going. Generico took it in, slamming Jacobs into the guardrails before avoiding a plancha by Black. Generico slipped into the ring, tagging in Steen, who somersault plancha’ed both champions before power bombing Jacobs on the side of the ring. Steen pitched Black in, hitting the pump handle neck breaker for a near fall. Steen ran to the top for the moonsault, only for Black to move and tag out. Jacobs ran in, locking in the End Time. Before Steen could submit, Generico yakuza kicked Jacobs, allowing Steen to roll him up for a two count. Black kicked Steen in the back of his head into Jacobs’ spear. Black flew off the top, frog splashing Steen for another near fall. Black wanted to superplex “Mr. Wrestling,” but Steen knocked him down. Jacobs took Black’s spot, only to get knocked down too. Black stopped Steen before he could fly, and so did Generico. Generico caught Jacobs with the yakuza kick after propelling Black onto Steen’s shoulders. Steen gut-busted Black in position for the Swanton Bomb. Generico followed up with the superfly splash for another two count. Once again, the fans proclaimed that the referee made a three count. Steen continued, hooking Black for the Package Piledriver. Black stopped him with God’s Last Gift, with Generico breaking up the pin. Black ran to the top for the Phoenix Splash. Steen moved, allowing Generico to yakuza kick the stumbling Black. Generico hooked Black for the top turnbuckle Brain Buster, but Jacobs stopped the masked man. Black got underneath Generico for the assisted Contra Code. Generico fought Black, allowing Steen to cannonball Black into the Sharpshooter. Generico took Jacobs to the floor as Black struggled to hold on. Steen cranked down on the Sharpshooter. Before Black could submit, Jacobs slipped in, clawing Steen in the face. Jacobs tagged in as Generico did the same. Generico suplexed Jacobs on his head, but ran into the End Time. Generico fought through it, causing Black to clothesline Jacobs. Steen ran in, super kicking Black into Generico’s yakuza kick. Generico pitched Jacobs into the Package Piledriver. Steen rolled through his finisher, pushing Jacobs into Generico’s Brain Buster to get the three count to become the new Tag Team champions. The crowd erupted as Steenerico were handed the belts. Steen went into the crowd so he could show the hard camera that he had finally achieved champion status in Ring of Honor.
Is It Worth Your Money:
Man that was fast. It just seemed like those two hours just flew by. Really, it’s hard to say something different for every match, as everything was just perfect for it’s position. The opener was hot, the squash looked like death (in a good way), and the tag matches were paced incredibly fast. Lynn and Hero had a very old school ECW style match, and it worked. Hero had grown leaps and bounds as “TYKOK,” using the strikes as real knockout blows instead of just transitions into bigger (and something equal) strikes. The triple threat started off a little awkward with Go breaking up pins (not really needed in an elimination match), but the intensity between Claudio and Danielson just made me more interested when they finally meet up in the feud ender, hopefully on pay-per-view. Then there were the title matches. While the Tag title match had everyone on their feet from the opening bell, Roderick and Nigel had to work a little harder to get the fans into it as no one believed that Strong had a chance. By the final stretch, the Boston fans were going crazy, counting every near fall with great enthusiasm. The Tag title match didn’t give the fans a chance to rest, keeping them frenzied with one of, if not, the best tag matches of the year. A hot crowd, great teams, two hot tags, and a very cool win capped off a show that could go down as the best PPV of 2008. Why do you do this, ROH? You can’t help but put on pay-per-views that make me give out glowing reviews. Oh, that’s right, that’s what a wrestling company is supposed to do.
